My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Masa by enjoying the Hinoki Counter Experience for $950pp. Was it worth the price? For me, no. For my husband, absolutely yes. Masa is my husband's favorite restaurant of any cuisine. He's been there multiple times. My favorite is E by Jose Andres in Las Vegas. E by Jose Andres is over the top, experimental, and bold. Masa is subtle perfection. If you value subtle perfection as much as my husband, then you will love Masa and the price will be worth it. The purpose of the subtle flavors is to maximize the flavor and texture of the fish without overpowering it. At Masa, I've tried unique fish that I have never had anywhere else. Every course was delicious. I don't think I've ever had such fresh fish, either. Don't get me wrong - I absolutely loved Masa. While I understand the price, $950 is a lot. For the $200 price difference of sitting at the bar and watching sushi masters execute your meal with precision vs. enjoying the same meal at a table, I would say pay the $200 difference and make this a true experience. Our sushi chef was outstanding and very friendly. The servers were attentive to the extreme, but it felt a bit intrusive. A single droplet would be wiped up immediately. However, they would switch from side to side constantly and I felt like it took away from the experience a bit. The ambiance was wonderful, but the best view was right in front of us. Everyone at the counter was well-dressed, despite the website stating the dress code is "casual and comfortable." Looking around the restaurant as we were leaving, luckily, I didn't see anyone wearing casual clothes. If it wasn't for the price, I would be back in a heartbeat. Since my husband loved it so much, we will likely be back at some point, anyway.
