Mastro's Ocean Club Boston Reviews from The Last Year
Been here 3x with hubby.
I'm not sure why we had 3 bad experiences here. The first one was for the Valentine's Day special. Food good but way over priced and we were so close together to other tables. I had the pleasure of sitting next to a blogger who recorded her entire meal (lasted over an hour) Her man friend and her did not say 1 word. Awkward. For each visit the food was okay but very pricey- they try to make it look fancy with smoke coming out of dishes. Every single time we've been here, the vibe has been so off. Like there's no good vibe in here. Ppl are a little snobby and no one is smiling or laughing- it's very weird. You'd think with such a beautiful spot in Boston that's along the water, it would be more upbeat and a nice experience but each time coming here, I couldn't wait to hurry up and eat my food so I could leave to go to Davios and have a drink there. For the amount of money and such a boring time here- I definitely would not come here again.

We've come here a couple times, once for Mother's Day and then again for Father's Day another year. It is always a full house here nonetheless, love the vibes. The staff are very nice and always welcoming. The food is very good. They probably have one of the best lemon drop martinis that I've ever tried... and that warm butter cake... I have no words for it, just thinking about it has my mouth watering!!!
My wife and I went to Mastro because we understood they had
My wife and I went to Mastro because we understood they had a strict dress code, including no hoodies. We were celebrating a special occasion and wanted to go to a restaurant where people had to dress appropriately. Mastros promised this on the front page of their mission statement. My wife and I were ready for a formal night out. It was my first time at Mastro. Again we went for the dress code not the food. We heard the food was good, but there are a lot of restaurants with good food. We wanted a formal experience. What we found was an overcrowded overpriced restaurant with mediocre food. Worst of all, they led in six young men, all in hoodies, and seated them at a table for six next to us. Two of them kept their hoodies on during dinner. Their obtuse behavior and inappropriate dress was a complete letdown to us. Never mind the raw piece of Seabass my wife was served, the blood rare A5 steak that I ordered medium, and the king crab truffle gnocchi that contained no traceable king crab or truffle and tasted like the chef spilled a bottle of truffle oil into the sauce. The overall lack of service made the night a complete loss. Shame on Mastro for making false promises of a dining experience where dress codes and behaviors are enforced. The restaurant, and the promise from management, are a total joke. Our meal was $400. We felt violated. Of course we will never return.
Wow - what a great meal and amazing service.
Had a private room so noise wasn't overwhelming - but could (softly) hear Berkeley performer in main room. Excellent sushi appetizers and had delicious seafood meal of oysters. Fantastic wait staff. She kept our table happy with all the food and drink we wanted and not intrusive but great sense of humor.
Fantastic food, the decor & vibe of this place is amazing.
Just make sure you are prepared for the bill.
Amazing location, great service and good food in an upscale
Amazing location, great service and good food in an upscale environment. Food: I really enjoyed my meal here! They started us off with a ton of bread which was delicious! The oysters were amazing and perfect for a spot like this. For my main I ordered the wild mushroom gnocchi which was so good! For sides, I recommend the scalloped potatoes - very creamy and cheesy! We got dessert and I'd come back just for the butter cake- it was too good! Since it was my birthday they gave us a cheesecake as well! Ambience: wonderful ambience - it's very spacious and has an amazing view of the city! Price: very expensive 1 but expected for a spot like this Service: good service where everyone was attentive
Visited mastros for our anniversary dinner.
The food was amazing , we had several different items. Steak was cooked perfect and bone marrow was on point! Not being from the area our server gave us great local bar and club suggestions and she did not disappoint. The views of the water and buildings were nice, all the windows help make it feel more open. On the pricey side but worth it for a once in a while nice date night. There was also live music and the place can be a little loud. Overall great experience

Our waitress Heather was amazing and manager Alan was very accommodating. The food was delicious despite many things being out of stock. Only critique i would have is it was very loud and our table was in the middle of a walk way.

The food is amazing!!! The servers fantastic however the receptionist or the hostess was not ! Sadly that person can set the tone and she did ! She insulted my daughter and sadly I will not go back and you should consider another restaurant! Seaport has so many And hopefully they will make you feel special when I mentioned to the manager that I was concerned about the interaction she was dismissive and couldn't care less so .... My take grill 23 over this any-day !!!
We celebrated my boyfriend's birthday at Mastro's this
We celebrated my boyfriend's birthday at Mastro's this weekend with a reservation for 9:30PM. Parking was easier than expected on the Main Street. The hostess was welcoming, wished my boyfriend a happy birthday and promptly seated us. We ordered lobster bisque, two Caesar salads, broccolini, mashed potatoes, French fries, a porterhouse, and 6 oz filet. We paired our meal with a bottle of wine and margaritas. The food was good, but there are a few areas to improve. The dishes were warm, indicating they may have sat for a bit before reaching the table. The pricing, especially for drinks, felt on the higher side. While the service was polite, it didn't quite match our expectations. One suggestion is to be more transparent about the bread- asking if we want it, but not mentioning it's not free can be confusing. Most restaurants offer complimentary bread. Overall Mastro's provided a nice experience but there's rooms for improvement.
Mastro
Extremely loud throughout the entire dining experience. The style is family portion but nothing is great. I ordered the herbed chicken which was crispy but had no flavor. King crab fried rice was good. Service is not great but that seems to be a Boston theme. Wouldn’t return.
Nice restaurant and ambiance - great for a company event
This was my first time visiting a Mastro's restaurant and I had nice experience. The company I work for hosted an event here for our team. We had a section of the restaurant for ourselves but no seats were provided which I thought was strange. There were servers who brought various finger foods throughout the evening and we were able to order drinks and have them served to us.
Disappointing Experience!
After eating and having wonderful experiences at the Mastro's in Orange County and New York City, I thought Mastro's in Boston would be the perfect place for a special dinner for my grandson's 16th birthday. I was aware of the dress code and knew we were dressed appropriately. We had a reservation for a high top inside. When we we got there, we were immediately ushered to table outside, which was not what I had reserved. At that time, we were the only ones on the patio. It was also a chilly evening and we were not prepared to sit outside. As more diners filled in, it was clear that those seated outside were dressed more casually than the diners inside although in compliance with the dress code. The service outside was underwhelming. The only time we got attentive service was when the server was trying to up sell us. This should have been a very special night for my grandson's birthday at an expensive restaurant. Instead it was hampered by lack luster service and discrimination. The food was excellent, as always, but it was definitely a disappointing evening.
Great views
The location of Mastros is perfectly situated with great views of the water. If you come for dinner and the sun is setting there is great people watching if your sitting outside. The food was very good, we started with sushi for apps, everyone had a steak which was perfectly cooked and 4-5 sides for the table to share. You need to try the butter cake for dessert, it’s pretty amazing. I would have given it 4 stars but service was terribly slow, dinner took over 3 hours.
Only IF You Want The BEST
There are not many restaurants that you can actually say you left with not only have just experienced the BEST food and drink around but you also left feeling vibes of kindness and SINCERITY from probably the most amazing staff I have ever encountered in my travels. There are many restaurants where one person stands out but not the entire staff!! The hostesses Catherine,Claudia, Daniela, Emily, Ana, and Alejandra were friendly, helpful, and kind. My Server ALEXANDER went above and beyond to not only represent his restaurant well but he honestly seemed to truly care! A funny and rare guy who sold me on the best lobster I have ever had in my life. The drinks were great and Alexander was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. So, above all I had to find out who the manager was and I promise you will not meet a nicer one anywhere!!!! His name is Connor Larkin. He obviously knows how to run a business in a unique stand-out way. Last but not least Carlos is the sweetest!!! I am going to recommend this place to everyone I come in contact with- it was my birthday and I had a lovely night despite not having a reservation ETC… Thank you Connor and Staff!!
