I recently celebrated a special occasion at Mastros Ocean
I recently celebrated a special occasion at Mastros Ocean Club in Malibu and it was an unforgettable experience! The ambiance was exquisite, with stunning views of the ocean adding to the charm of the evening. The bread selection they start you off with is very good and my main was great. I ordered the filet combo with the breaded sea bass, and it was a decision I didn't regret. The filet was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, while the sea bass was delightfully crispy on the outside yet moist and flavorful inside. Each bite was a symphony of flavors that left me wanting more!! The sides rock too - we ordered Mac and cheese, creamed spinach, and veggies. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff catering to our every need without being intrusive. The sommelier helped us choose the perfect wine to complement our meal, further enhancing the dining experience. Overall, Mastros Ocean Club in Malibu exceeded my expectations in every way. It's the perfect spot for a special celebration or a romantic dinner. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience with a view to match.

Review is Continued on a separate post. My entire review couldn't fit on one post. Bad Service From Manager (Jessica) . She told me that the owner is a billionaire & also Insinuated that the owner is a racist & told me that he won't care about MY review. (This review has 2 parts). This is a restaurant review on the bad customer service recieved from the manager, Jessica, at Mastro's Ocean Club in Malibu, California at 18412 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, California. My husband and I were in LA for a short birthday / Valentine's Day getaway. I had been to Mastros Ocean Club in Malibu, California the year prior with my friend on a girls trip. Unlike THIS current visit... That visit was great. They were so nice and helped us get an Oceanview window seat. So I had been telling my husband about it and I wanted him to experience it for his 50th birthday. However, this visit was vastly different. On this visit on 2/24/24, we arrived at 5:30pm & I asked for an Oceanview window table. They open for dinner at 5:00pm. I also wrote in the reservation notes that I would like a seat next to the window. I also told this to the cold talking woman who called to confirm that we were definitely coming. I even told them I would wait for one or either be moved to one if it became available. Based off of my last visit I thought they would be accommodating but I was in for a rude awakening. In a cold, mean, snobby, robotic tone, they started spouting out all these rules & that they don't change tables (which isn't true because they did it last year after we had sat down & ordered drinks-they came and said we have an oceanview window table that popped up, do you want it? We took it off course) & that they can only give me a window table for an hour (knowing steaks take an hour before they even come out). They claim they could only move us from a table to a bar. So I complained about it and asked for a manager & got Jessica. Jessica come over & she was loud & rude & said that the rules are they don't switch tables. No Oceanview window table was available. You just made your reservation today (which shouldn't matter). She did agree to take our picture reluctantly but continued to say she couldn't do anything. I asked if there was anyone above her & she then got even more rude. She told me that there's no one above her. I asked her the name of her manger, she refused to give it to me. I asked her if she could give me a manger again & repeatedly, someone above her, she refused. She told me that there's no one Above her. She said there's no corporate office. No person above her. She said she's the highest manager at Mastros. She told me to that if I wrote a Yelp or a Google review, I'm wasting my time, because she's the only one who reads them. I asked her was she the owner. She respond no. Jessica told me that he's a billionaire & would not care about what someone like me had to say. I'm thinking what does she mean by someone like me. I responded so he wouldn't care about the little black woman. She said well, the owner is good friends with Trump. I responded, so you're implying the owner is a racist. She looked at me with a facial expression like... WHAT DO YOU THINK. One of those facial expressions that women make when the head falls a little sideways, the lips stay closed but spread out, the the eyes (say it all) looking at you... like (what do you think... dummy.) This rude, arrogant, cold, snobby, smart talking woman, who seems to say whatever is on her mind (regardless that she's at work in front of other customers waiting at the host stand)... did that expression very, very well. Sometimes, facial expressions speak louder than words. Especially in the context of the conversation. I asked Jessica for the owner's name... since there's no one else above her. She said it so fast, I couldn't understand. I asked her if she could please write it down. She wrote it on a piece of paper. But I do understand, based on Jessica's comments, that he doesn't care that (someone like me) had a bad experience at his restaurant. She flat out told me that he (the owner who's a billionaire and good friends with Trump) doesn't care if someone like me writes an email to him or write online review (that only she (the manager, Jessica) sees). Someone like me... does she mean he's racist and doesn't care about minorities getting good customer service and food. Or does she mean people of all races and colors (white, black, or brown, etc)... who aren't billionaires. Are all of the people who work hard for our money, and go to a nice restaurant to treat ourselves.... (special moments in our lives, date nights , birthdays, anniversaries, or just to treat ourselves)... the people she's referring to? Us... who aren't billionaires. Since she pointed out he's a billionaire and doesn't care about someone like me. Either way, it's demeaning. Any statements....

I honestly really liked this restaurant the food was so good especially the prime rib and the shrimp tower. I also liked the service because they were nice

DO NOT GO HERE!!! This restaurant had the worst service i've ever seen. They were so rude to us about asking if we could get a refill. The food is over priced. If you want an even normal dining experience DO NOT GO HERE

Upon arrival, I was welcome by the host and was sat at the table, I took the opportunity to tell one of the servers I think his name was Johnny I hope I got it right, I told him that I have two more guest coming and I wanted to be the one to pay and to let the other servers know, which he accommodate. I would like to say that the food was absolutely great, the stakes were cooked to our liking, the drinks were a 10 out of 10 for me, our server Jessie or Jessica not sure if i am right but was so helpful and amazing, she made us feel welcomed and made us feel like we can ask her anything and was very attentive making sure we were good. I have been to many upscale restaurants, but Mastros Malibu has to be one of the most welcoming, best service I have ever experienced, and on top of that, the food being absolutely delicious.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best steaks I have had.
If you're looking to spend a little money on a nicer upscale dinner for the night, this is a great place. Food and drinks were delicious and the staff were very attentive. I went to the malibu location. Reservations recommended.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely disappointing, a huge contrast to my pre-COVID
Extremely disappointing, a huge contrast to my pre-COVID experiences, it used to be the prime location to go for Malibu "sunset" views and fine dining, but...alas... I invited a couple visiting from out of town for a tour of the oceanside and made reservation for the first seating at 5pm, arrived at 4:55pm, valet would not accommodate to get my car as we were early! , very rude "unwelcoming" start. Fortunately the door was open and we were able to wait inside, and not outside in drenching pouring rain, until we were seated near the window, and introduced to "Pablo", our wonderful and charismatic waiter . I ordered a bottle of Pellegrino to start, and another sloppy waiter spilled most of the bottle all over the table, our dresses and coats, while serving it, so it became a mess and total embarrassment for me as the host, so we had to switch tables and use the restrooms to dry up... For appetizers we got the fried Calamari (2/5* for being soft and mediocre), and crab cakes (4/5* for taste, but $50 for 2). My guests wanted their Porterhouse well-done, it came out totally burned and very dry with no butter on top, sides of garlic mashed potatoes were missing garlic and sauteed asparagus was absolutely tasteless, so were the Mojito and Margarita. My jumbo lobster was very good, just remember that the price is $125.00. They brought us a birthday cake to celebrate one of my guests' BD for free, which is the common gesture of most high-end restaurants, and appreciated. Unfortunately, I don't think Mastro's Ocean view met my expectations for food and service compared to other Mastro's. My guests did not enjoy the "Mastro's fine dining experience", so I promised to bring them to Beverly Hills. Despite all above , I left a 25% tip for our waiter Pablo who tried his best to compensate for all short-comings. You have many other oceanside restaurants choices with the view with better food and service, not worth the price.
Be the first to ReplyFor my birthday I wanted to go to Mastro's so my family
For my birthday I wanted to go to Mastro's so my family took me there for dinner. We have been here so many times before and always liked the food, ambiance and good menu items. However this time I was so disappointed. It has really gone downhill. We were there for over 3 hours while our food was being prepared. I was so tired of waiting so long for our food to come out. We ordered shrimp cocktail, sushi roll, oysters Rockefeller for appetizer and basket of bread. The sushi tasted old and chewy like it has been sitting around. The oysters Rockefeller was not good the cheese on top was over cooked and underneath barely any spinach. We had also ordered filet mignons, New York steak and bone in ribeye. Also ordered a few sides fries, twice baked potato, regular baked potato and creamed corn. The fries had so much salt in it like the chef accidentally spilled the whole bottle of salt in it. The twice baked potato had huge chunks pork pieces (bacon) that was over cooked extremely hard to chew. The came our steaks filet mignon is suppose to be the most tender soft cut of beef however this was not. It tasted like very cheap filet mignon low grade. The worst steak I have ever eaten. Had lots of membranes in it very hard to chew. I can taste the blood in the meat. The food quality super low not what it use to be. I got diner food but paid steak house prices. For dessert we always get their famous butter cake. Even that was not good this time. It was super dry and over baked. What is going on.... It use to be so good here. Regretted paying so much and not enjoying our food. Quality is very low.
Be the first to ReplyFood is mediocre for its price.
Hostesses were very rude I almost just walked out. Waiters were all helpful. Good wine selection. And the location/view is obviously good.

Everything went fantastic , I'd give it a 5 star for food, service and ambiance. Not to mention the fact that there was great live music playing near the bar. View of the ocean from the dining room alone makes everything worthwhile. I'd love to visit this place again soon. 8 people in our party and we all walked out satisfied with smile on our faces. I'd like to Alonso mention that the drinks are great, especially manhattans and the martinis. Keep up the good work guys!
Be the first to ReplyFor many, many years, Mastros Ocean Club in Malibu has been
For many, many years, Mastros Ocean Club in Malibu has been our "go to" place for birthdays and anniversaries, or just a nice night out, but the quality of the food and service has taken a deep plunge since the pandemic. We hoped it would pass, and have celebrated our last few special events at CUT in Beverly HIlls instead, to give Mastros a chance to get back up to their usual level of excellence. Tonight, our family went back to Mastros to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary. It was a mistake. The problems started the moment we walked in. The place was mobbed, and only one hostess was on duty and seemed utterly overwhelmed. The waiting area was stuffed with people. Clearly, staffing and organization was an issue. We were led to our table... not the one we'd requested in our reservation (or even in the same part of the restaurant we asked for). In fact, it was where we specifically asked NOT to be. Alas, they told us they had no other available tables. The waiter asked if we wanted the bread basket. We told him we did, but only the sourdough and cheesebread...not the pretzel bread. Usually, when we ask for this, we get extra sourdough or cheesebread to make up for it. So what did we get? A basket with pretzel bread. When we mentioned this, he took the pretzel bread out, stuck it in another basket, and gave us the our basket. The sourdough was hard and dry...and the cheesebread was so cold, we wondered if perhaps it had just been taken out of the refrigerator. When our menus came, we opened them up, and CRUMBS DRIBBLED OUT! It was disgusting. For God's sake, open the menus and shake the crumbs out before giving them to your diners. We ordered our food... I asked for my steak medium, and my wife asked for dijon mustard with hers. When our steaks arrived, hers was delivered without the mustard and mine was medium RARE. I sent my steak back. In the meantime, our sidedishes came, scalding hot -- which is fine and expected. Except the waiters just left the pans on our table -- they didn't serve us our initial portions, like they usually do. So we served ourselves, but I burned myself doing it. My family continued eating while I waited for my steak (my wife had to ask two more times for her mustard, btw). Meanwhile, my daughter had to keep telling waiters not take our butter away (I guess because we were finished with the bread, they couldn't comprehend why we might want to keep the butter), Why were they so intent on taking the butter? They tried three more times to take it away. Was the butter putting us in danger? Was there a desperate need for our butter back in the kitchen? I finally had to say "Go away. Leave the butter alone." The waitress came back with my steak... which was overcooked and flavorless. The seasoning was seared right off...so it was a good thng I had the butter to melt on top! I've had bad service at Mastros before, but this was the first time I've ever had a bad steak. She came back a few minutes later and asked me how it was -- I lied, and said it was fine, because i didn't want to kill the celebration by making a scene out of this (though both my wife and daughter commented on how bad the service has become). On top of that, all the waiters seemed to have stained clothes, crooked ties, or misbuttoned or ill-fitting coats. Our daughter even joked that they must want to save money here on dry cleaning. Not a good look for a supposedly high-end restaurant. This isn't Bobby's diner. I know the wait staff gets dirty, of course, but come on, this is supposed to be a high-end, elegant steak-house restaurant -- give the waiters/waitresses clean shirts or fresh aprons when they stain themselves...and give them coats that fit...and ties that are straight! The place just doesn't seem special or elegant any more. It feels like a steak conveyor belt. If this had not been our anniversary, but just a nice dinner out, I would have demanded to see the manager and complained about how bad things have become. Instead, not wanting to ruin our special night, I waited until we got home, and everyone was in bed, to sent this review. It's sad to see how far this Mastros has fallen (I've dined since the pandemic at Mastros in NYC and it was great in every way). We'll be going back to CUT for our special occasions from now on.

Be the first to ReplyWent last Saturday and Rich was our server.
He was attentive and friendly. Everything was perfect from the heirloom salad, to the porterhouse, and of course the buttercake. Staff were helpful but Rich made the night.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for a birthday celebration around 8pm.
I'm sure the view would have been pretty, but it was pitch black. We asked for a window seat, but still a table away, so you couldn't see any waves crashing down below. Now, as for the food, we got the bread service, off menu Dungeness crab cocktail, Cesar salad, New York strip, truffle mushrooms, and butter cake. Bread was delicious, loved the assortment of bread. The Dungeness crab cocktail, aka rich man's fries, delicious, cocktail sauce was anything special, but still good. New York strip was cooked at a good medium rare, but slightly above average tasting. Mushrooms were good, but nothing special again. Many different cocktails to choose from, but they were subpar. Our waiter was great though and even exchange my drink that wasn't good for a different one, but even the next drink was okay. Honestly, for the price, the food was pretty average, could've made it at home with effort. I know you pay for the ambiance, but it was dark and we were in a crowded little corner, so I'm solely basing that 3/5 star on food. Only thing worth the price was the bread and butter cake. I'd come back for that.Note, we dresses up, which was fun. But for those that are worried, we saw people in gym-wear, sneakers, sweaters. So it's not that strict for those who are worried about their "strict" dress-code, but again this was the Malibu location.
Be the first to ReplyAmbiance- okay.
I requested a table next to the window for my birthday celebration but instead received a table in the corner over looking the parking lot - 2 stars for this awful view. The corner table was comfortable but the noise factor was terrible - it was so loud in the restaurant, couldn't hear my own conversation. The bread basket is well worth the $5- the pretzel bread, sourdough and other bread was a great choice- and the butter was softened to my liking! Ordered the tuna tartar- excellent! The main course was the bone in Filet, New York Strip -prepared perfectly medium rare. Sides were Brussels sprouts, garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed asparagus, Mac and cheese. French fries were not crisp (boo), I asked for tartar sauce as a dip and never received it. We had a birthday celebration and Mastro's delivered complimentary cheesecake. 5 stars for food.Service was good/ although they took a long time to refill our water glasses but of course the bottles of wine came out quickly. 4 stars.

The Penthouse at Mastro's is a high-end steakhouse with breathtaking views of the city. The steak was some of the best I've ever had, and the sides were delicious. The service was exceptional, and the ambiance was elegant and sophisticated.

By far the nicest location compared to Beverly Hills and Agoura Hills however location is very small. It's Malibu so it's as expected since it's really right on the water. If you don't like steak there's other seafood option but you shouldn't eat here without trying steak. We started with calamari and the tartar. We were a party of 7 so we got 3 large bone-in ribeyes to share. Presentation is perfect. Steaks already sliced, we also added the different butters (truffle, wagyu, and bone marrow) for an additional cost but definitely adds another level of perfection. Add the family style sides, lobster mashed potatoes are pricey for a side but so worth it. We also ordered asparagus and brussel sprouts. Service and food was exceptional. Definitely a special celebration kinda restaurant.

Figured it'd be helpful to post an updated review as I've been dining here since 2017.I'm guessing that you have been reading the reviews during the post-COVID era and even a top-tier restaurant like Mastro's understandably had some tough times. My first time dining here post-COVID was in March of 2022. That time, the service was great, but the food did seem a bit off in terms of the drinks and the steaks. Like the steaks were not cooked properly(too rare, too tough) and the drink(lemon drop martinis) felt like it was missing something.Fast forward to March 2023 as me and the lady had dinner here recently to celebrate my birthday and our one year anniversary(tied to the same date). I can confirm that the food and drinks are back to the way they were pre-COVID with it being on point!Kudos to the new kitchen staff and wait staff for making our anniversary memorable. My ribeye was cooked perfectly at medium-rare while being tender and juicy with delicious marbling. The warm butter cake along with the complimentary cheesecake was a perfect way to close out the anniversary/birthday dinner.Thank you again for another wonderful night Mastro's. Keep up the great work as we will be returning to celebrate another life event here.
Be the first to ReplyThis Maestro's location knocks it out of the park.
It is by far the best restaurant bar none. While I have enjoyed it for several years; the food, drinks, staff, bar, all of it is incredible on this particular night the course history was changed. My boyfriend proposed to me here. We are the most incredible dinner and afterwords walked on the beach. (we had a scale, some rocks to get onto the sand - probably not advised) he got down on one knee and presented the rock. Everybody in the restaurant was banging on the windows in joy for us. But seriously, the bar is always jumping. It is LA chic. Come dressed to kill.
Be the first to ReplyWas so romantic , loved the food and atmosphere.
There was a live musician who played throughout the night which was a nice touch. I got the branzino whilst my husband got sea bass. Both were cooked to perfection. We also got sides such as mashed potatoes, fries, and mac & cheese. They were good just the mashed potatoes were lacking flavor. Breadbasket was 10/10 with the side of butter absolutely delicious. We asked the bartender for a recommendation on a mojito and he ended up with his own mix. So good it was a mango mojito with mint 200/10! Loved this place.
