An oustanding meal
You I cannot understand why this outstanding restaurant is not fully booked and rammed with diners - quite simply we have stumbled across a place that served some of the best food I have eaten since the lockdown. A super choice on the menu, cooked to perfection and all at a very reasonable price. Along with very welcoming hosts - people, if you don't go you are seriously missing out!!!
Be the first to ReplyCalled in for lunch on the off chance. We all had an amazing lunch… including the fussy veggie 😂. Highly recommended 👍
5 for lunch on chance,on the way back from the Lake District, never been before… I can recommend the lamb roulade special, steak pies were generous & looked homemade, even the veggie was happy. Great food, good beer👍 We,d definitely call back in again👍
Be the first to ReplyFamily trip, Mother's Day. Friendly great food.
We as a family stayed nearby. From the first day we arrived and had lunch in the Maypole we were very pleased it was our local for a week. Eight of us went for Mother's day. Delicious home cooked food. Service was excellent. Ate there 4 days out of 7.
Be the first to ReplyModern yet traditional pub and B&B
I travelled up to Yorkshire for a break to beat the January blues, first met with the aesthetically pleasing building which has clearly been renovated and maintained. There is plenty of space to park in the car park, checking in was quick and easy which allowed me to quickly get settled in my room (which was clean and again looks to be recently modernised with traditional features) then onto enjoy the evening in the pub. The landlord, lady and staff were a good laugh and very welcoming as were the locals. I stayed for two nights, on both nights I had a peaceful and comfortable sleep. The Nespresso machine is a nice touch for a quick coffee before going downstairs for breakfast, which again was faultless and filling. I am so relieved to find somewhere aesthetically pleasing, warm and welcoming. When in Yorkshire again I will definitely be returning.

Very expensive for what was provided. Mattress had seen better days and was uncomfortable. Sheets were lovely though. No hotel information in the welcome pack. Had to request WiFi code and was told that it was in the welcome pack! Breakfast was basic and seemed like it had been cooked and kept warm for hours. More edible on our second morning. This appears to be the only bed and breakfast accommodation in this village so it feels like they can charge what they like!

Sadly booked this place for a 2 night stay, what a mistake. On arrival we were greeted with a miserable host who insisted I tell her what I wanted for my breakfast in the morning and at what time! The room was average decor but absolutely no hot water coming out of sink tap which apparently “lots of people have mentioned this” The food the first night was average but second night was totally uncooked. I did get a refund but it spoiled the evening. There is zero friendliness at this place and we couldn’t wait to leave. Needless to say I would never return and certainly wouldn’t recommend to anyone. I just wished I had read previous reviews as I am not the only one to have had this awful experience. Never again.

After a long drive, we were greeted by "you'll have to pay now and what will you want for breakfast?" Taken aback as it was 3pm. So we just said a full English. Our room, which was Pendle 3, was quite nicely decorated but absolutely stunk of cigarettes. As expected in such an old building the floors weren't level but lying in bed was an experience in itself. There was no hot water to the sink but was OK in the shower. The room was not serviced even though we were booked for 2 nights. We were told we would have to eat in the bar first night because a large party was in the restaurant but despite there being a pub quiz. Breakfast was OK but not everything was on your plate. Second nights meal in the restaurant we chose Cumberland sausage whirl. Neither could be eaten as under cooked. Staff not very tentative so we had veg and mash. To be fair when they cleared the table and we told them it was very undercooked, they knocked the price off the bill. Still no hot water in room. On leaving a young lady asked if we'd enjoyed it and we said no and why. She said yes several people have complained about no hot water - yet nothing has been done about it. Would not recommend and will definitely not be returning.

Arrived at a busy time during a pub quiz. First warning of a bad experience to come was they wanted payment up front. We've stayed at this pub twice before and enjoyed our stay but this was horrendous. First room we were taken to was actually already occupied. Second room was apparently the right room. Our booking stated a deluxe room. £230 for 2 nights b&b. The room was tiny and noisy. Not sure we're the noise came from but could have been the kitchen extractor fan working but it didn't stop till after 11 pm. No hot water. We were later told you have to run the shower at the same time. The radiator in the bedroom only warmed a third of the way up. The coffee pod machine was full of used pods. No fresh pods to be found anywhere in the room. We went on the search for milk which we found in a cupboard outside of the room. There was a table lamp that didn't work but had dangerous wiring. We were told breakfast was 9.30. The info book said 8.30 to 9.30 so I thought I must have misheard. We were meeting family in Settle the next morning and went for breakfast at 8.30. Everywhere was all locked up. We had to leave at 9.00. That's when everywhere was open, lights on and the lady there said she had been told we wanted breakfast at 9.30. We left for the day. The room hadn't been serviced when we got back later that night. Sunday morning we had breakfast just after 8.30. I wish we hadn't bothered. It was barely warm the only hot food was the beans. Someone needs to learn to warm the plates before putting hot food on them. Always enjoyed our stays there before. We will never stay again!! This is all due to very bad management.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth a visit or a meal
This was probably one of the worst pub experience I've had! Staff all seem miserable, not a smile on any of their faces, not at all friendly. We ordered 2 meals that came with chips, they were awfull! You would think they had been par boiled not fried, they were hard in the centre. We were asked if the meal was OK, I did say it wasn't and why, however no apology just an offer to replace the chips. We didn't bother. This place us not cheap either, £44 for 2 basic pub grub meals and a pint and a half of shandy. No reduction was offered when paying. The interior looks worn and depressing. Definitely NOT worth a visit.
Be the first to Replyexcellent room and food
Booked this through hotels.com for 2 nights. But after reading some reviews on here about food and rooms I nearly cancelled BUT I'm glad I didn't. My room Pen-y-ghent was lovely, clean, great walk in shower and nice comfy bed. Loved the reading lights. Breakfast was excellent and evening meal was too. Heard other dinners talking saying how good the meal they had was. Would not hesitate to recommend to others and would stay again.
Be the first to ReplyWorst meal ever!
My wife and I called into the Maypole Inn on our way home, I had fish and chips and my wife had curry and chips. The meals were disgusting! My fish looked like it was fish bits mashed together then shaped into a fish and then fried. The chips were raw after having them replaced 3 times for the same reason, we called it a day then. The very young waiter had no answer, I felt that he was scared to tell the kitchen about any problems, and the lady behind the bar couldn't care less. Worse pub ever we. We will never go there again. Take my advice. Go anywhere else but not here.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious home cooked fare
Delicious home cooked pub meals, homemade feel, unassuming and the real deal. Proper pub, real fire, massive portions, what’s not to like? Had the chicken balti, roast beef, Irish stew and a kids sausage and chips. Followed with hot choc pudding and raspberry meringues. Real local secret.

Having just completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in what can only be described as torrential, all I needed was a warm bed and hearty food. I got both of these and more. The pub was quiet which was to be expected on a Monday evening in February. The menu had plenty of vegetarian options and the lady behind the bar was very helpful. The mushroom pie was excellent and the crumble also. Slept very well and had a good breakfast in the morning. Overall a cracking stay; and for the price… quite astounding!
Be the first to ReplyGreat overnight stay
Great pub with accommodation, very comfortable bed in a decent sized room, nice evening meal and drinks at sensible prices and good quality breakfast in the morning. The only thing that stopped me giving this 5* was at night there is a green light in the room above the door, obviously for fire safety reasons, however although it looks tiny it totally illuminated the room in the middle of the night. I've never been in a room that has had this so don't think it's "regulations" and would advise they remove them from inside the room.
Be the first to ReplyAtmosphere Dead
Recently stayed for a two night break, first and last time ! Atmosphere appalling. Total silence whilst eating breakfast as no back ground music, felt like needed to whisper so conversations couldn’t be overheard, could hear all conversation in kitchen whilst sat waiting. Breakfast was ok but lunch day before terrible, dry bread, tasteless. Evening meal, well words fail me, totally dry lasagne and a “deconstructed pie”. Bar staff, Gaynor and lady serving breakfast nice and friendly. Definitely needs a burst of atmosphere!
Be the first to ReplyLovely warm welcome and great food and service
We had done the Ingleton Waterfall Trails and wanted a lovely pub lunch afterwards. Please note nothing open on a Monday with exception to this place we weren't disappointed. Lovely homely feel, great food and service. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for making us feel welcome.
Be the first to ReplyA cold reception from start to finish…
We arrived around 4pm and all of the radiators in the room were off. Understandably in the current climate, they wouldn’t have the heating on unnecessarily, but it was absolutely freezing. Luckily there were 2 heaters in the room so with these and the radiators turned on,it took a couple of hours before the room felt comfortable. During breakfast my partner asked what egg was with the full English. The woman serving said we could pick what we would like….however she was then heard talking loudly in the kitchen about ‘people of today & why they can’t just be happy with what they are given…in her day they would just eat what they liked and left what they didn’t…other comments about when they are asked to leave something from a breakfast and add something else’ ~ this left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Whether the comments were aimed at us or other customers, it was completely unprofessional & a disappointing view from someone working in hospitality. Reviews from others about friendly staff, however we received a cold reception from start to finish… very disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyTasty pub food
Visited twice during our stay in Long Preston. A family group from children to great grandma. We all enjoyed our food. Good, basic and tasty pub grub. Good choice of drinks and very reasonably priced wine. Woul definitely return if in the area.
Be the first to ReplyWarm and friendly
We popped in for lunch at the Maypole inn on our way through Yorkshire. Pub was quiet but the welcome was very warm and friendly and a small log burner at one end of the bar gave a lovely warmth. We opted for the ploughman’s - two different options - one with chicken liver pâte and one with a selection of Yorkshire cheeses. Salad was very fresh and the bread was very good. A side order of chips are very good - proper hand cooked chips !! As before, service was very good. Very warm and friendly and happy to help with anything , albeit the pub wasn’t that busy. Overall a good lunch and worth popping into if you are nearby.

The Maypole Inn is superb. The room was well furnished, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The bar is friendly and welcoming and serves simple well, cooked food. The breakfast was fantastic and the staff professional and friendly. Couldn’t recommend this highly enough; would definitely stay again!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Stay. Great food. Dog friendly. 5/5.
Stayed here with my wife & our dog for one night and also had tea here in the evening. Very nice stay overall. Room was large & clean. Staff were all very friendly, made a fuss of our dog & gave him treats. The meal we got in the evening was really tasty. Would definitely stay here again if we were back in the area!
Be the first to ReplyTea time meal
Called in on the off chance meals were being served as it was a little early for evening meal, so glad we did! A good pub menu with plenty of choice and the meal could not be faulted, had sausage and mash and braised steak, lovely vegetables and friendly service. Thank you, if we are back in the area we will certainly be back here.
Be the first to ReplyLunch
Haven’t been here since new owners took over. Went on a lunchtime and it was very quite. Very limited menu not much imagination, scampi, pie sandwiches. Was really disappointed. Synergy dinner menu fairs better. Lacked atmosphere however that could be due to not many people in. Won’t go back unfortunately.

Excellent accommodation recently refurbished. Evening meal enjoyable; sufficient quantity with plenty of vegetables and served evenly hot. Not an over ambitious menu which is sensible for a village pub, but unless the visitor is fussy Maypole offers a good range of dishes. Prices fair. Plenty of carparking. Staff were polite and efficient. If revisiting the area I would definitely aim to book at The Maypole. Bar seems frequented by local customers and the beer price has not been raised beyond a reasonable pre-restriction price...yet.
Be the first to ReplyVery poor
The dead withered shrubs in pots on either side of the entrance held a clue to the service inside. We arrived shortly before our guests and on entering, despite being the only ones at the bar, were ignored by the two staff who were attempting to sort out a transaction on the till. Eventually they acknowledged we were there and we ordered a drink and waited outside for our guests to arrive. When they did we were shown to our table and rather than being asked what we wanted to drink at to his point waited 5 minutes for someone to come and take the drinks order. Our comment that we were ready to order out meals was ignored and 15 minutes later the drinks turned up. After approximately half an hour our food came. I don't know which ploughman the lunch was based on but he obviously wasn't a fan of cheese, as that was the smallest ingredient on the plate. The potato topped bean dish was topped with an anemic mash that reminded me of 1970s processed packets of Smash. All round poor overpriced food served to a low standard. When no one came to our table we went to the bar to pay, where after a further delay a request to split the bill was meet with eye rolling. What a shame to see what used to be a good pub spoiled by borderline rudeness and bad service. My advice is if you're understaffed forewarn diners so they know what to expect. And if you feel under pressure don't take it out on your customers.
