Stellar service and delicious food here! We sat outside and were treated with lovely care, even though we didn't have a reservation. The mains were beautifully presented and came with a scrumptious bread basket (sourdough and foccacia). The dessert portions were super generous and I was particularly impressed with the lightness and quality of the cheesecake. (The white chocolate in it was of great quality and not waxy or cloying). The meal ended with a perfect selection of home-made passion fruit marshmallows and dark chocolate truffles. Would come back in a heartbeat!
Be the first to ReplyThe best dinner we had while in London.
We chose to eat all three courses (the menu has the option of one, two or three courses). I started with the foie gras and cranberry terrine. It was delicious with the cranberry being a perfect balance to the fatty foie gras. My date had the seared tuna which was perfect. As a main course, I had the rump of belted galloway - a specialty beef. It was served roasted with snails and portobello mushrooms. Yes, please! The roast meat was tender and served medium rare. It was fantastic, not too heavy with just the right amount of flavor. My date had the slow braised beef cheek. I then had the honeycomb ice cream with a fantastic botrytized wine. The two went perfectly together. My date had the warm mousse witha Greek vin santo. A word about the wine. The wine list was fantastic. We started with a 2010 Ogier Cote Rotie which is a personal favorite but one we don't see often given its age. The accompanying dessert wines were selected and presented by the sommelier, Melania. If you go, seek her out - she is a treasure, both friendly and knowledgable.

I have to say visiting this restaurant was a truly delightful experience with great food good wine and a very friendly atmosphere. Had heard about this place a couple of years ago decided to keep my eye on it and liked everything I was hearing so yesterday to the Kings Road Chelsea we went . The restaurant is situated about half way between Fulham Broadway & Sloane Square and has a real local feel. A nice friendly greeting on arrival then shown to our table to enjoy a lovely G&T to which they have a good selection while we looked at the menu.. A very appetising Lunch menu with a good choice of starters , mains and desserts . We decided to have the Mackerel Tartare & the Wood Pigeon Boudin & both were very delicious indeed then on to the mains which were the Suckling Pig Loinwith Glazed Cheek which was amazing & the Boudin of Corn Fed Chicken and also fantastic these courses were superbly matched with great wine chosen by the sommelier. So next we're the desserts a Strawberry & Prosecco Jelly a delightful light dessert & the Chocolate Tart with Salted Caramel which was heaven as was the Sweet Wine to match . To finish was some delightful Petit Fours to go with our nice selection of teas. So glad to have finally visited and will definitely return and would also highly recommend that if your in the area to pop you will not be disappointed

My girlfriend and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary at Medlar and both had an amazing time! The staff really welcomed us and made it especially special considering the event. Medlar really nails the romantic night out.Firstly, I want to emphasize how great the staff are here. Everyone, from the waitresses to sommelier to cocktail bar tender were incredible. I am sure they make it a point not to impose and I think, unless necessary, they never asked any questions. This was quite surprising but I loved it. I don't think I've ever told a waitress that I didn't enjoy the meal when they ask during the meal... and really, it just interrupts the conversation. Super professional. At the same time, they weren't stand-off-ish and made an effort to seat us by the window (the nicest table!) and bring us an extra desert to celebrate (I'm not sure if we needed it though, we were so full by that point!). I mentioned it was our anniversary as a comment on OpenTable (if you're wondering)...We arrived slightly earlier than our reservation and were shown to the bar. To be honest, it's much smaller than I imagined and not really suited for pre-dinner drinks. I would aim to arrive on time for your reservation in the future. That said, the bar tender, Damien, was nice and bad us some delicious cocktails. I had a Manhattan (smooth and sweet!) and my girlfriend had a Green Forest (shoutout to Damien who created it himself). Also, although I'm normally not fussed about bar snacks... the olives were to die for. Currently regretting not asking them where they get them from. Almost worth going to the bar just for the olives actually. The atmosphere and decor was also warm, friendly and very comfortable. The front of the restaurant was buzzing with conversation at just the right volume. The restaurant had quite an interesting color theme too (green / turquoise) with some fun lights. Medlar definitely isn't too serious. The food. Really good but I wouldn't say the best I've ever had. I ordered the Duck Egg tart (which I learnt features Duck heart, oh my) and that was really good - thick, rich but also sweet. The thin biscuit the fried egg lays on really adds something. On the other hand, my girlfriend had the Crab Raviolo (singular of Ravioli supposedly) which I didn't love. And I normally love crab. For the main, I ordered the Pork Belly with Kimchi, Pak Choi and other light asian veg. They went together well and was a nice twist on the normally all too heavy Pork Belly dishes. The Kimchi also wasn't too overwhelming (this gets my seal of approval). My girlfriend ordered the Rump steak, which was unusual, but it was also great. I would comment that the portion was probably larger than it needed to be. The triple fried chips were top notch.Lastly, I must mention the pudding. The really made the meal 5 stars. The passion fruit sorbet was incredible... light and tropical - just what I needed after gorging myself on meats. We also received complimentary date ice cream (which I mentioned earlier) with amaretti biscuits which was incredible. Quoting my girlfriend "I'd go back just for that". Marshmallows were good.
Be the first to ReplyI simply love this place.
Yes, it is a posh restaurant with a very posh clientele but it has a very warm feeling about it. We tried their 3 course menu (£35) which change often and was sublime. Starter was light and delicious: slightly cooked scallops with crispy bacon, cream and salad. The main course was divine. The beef was perfectly cooked, "french" medium rare which is not always easy to get in England. The fries were large, delicious, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. I still had a tiny tiny space for some dessert so I went for something fresh and light, the homemade passion fruit ice-cream.The food itself should be more than enough to make you come back but you should know that the service is on point, efficient, quick and very nice. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, a mix of cosy, chic and homely. And it's on the Top 50 London Restaurant Time Out's list. There. Try it!

Absolutely wonderful! Gorgeous food, lovely staff, such a pretty restaurant. We selected the set menu (three courses for £35) and were rewarded with a feast! Crisp salads, delicious steaks, sumptuous puddings...course after course was sublime. Highly, highly recommended- best meal I've had in a good long time.Ideal for a celebration (we were toasting a friend's birthday), but also perfect for a family meal or a dinner a deux.
Be the first to ReplyI love everything about this restaurant.
Literally everything. It is one of my top restaurants in all of London. The decor is adorable and very comfortable whilst being sophisticated. The service is top notch. The menu is exciting - traditional and modern at the same time. The food is excellent. I have never had a bad meal or experience at this establishment. It is hard to say what the best thing here is, the menu does change with some regularity. One thing they always have on the menu is the steak, escargot and fries which is amazing, and probably what I order the most. They once had venison done 3 ways which was also incredible. Basically you cannot go wrong with whatever you order here. I recommend that everyone come here for a special occasion, or just a random Tuesday lunch.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious meal at Medlar.
The service was sincere and top notch and the food was perfectly executed. I recommend going on Monday when there is a 20% off your total bill offer if you mention when booking :) I was blown away with the duck heart appetizer I had and hope to return on our next trip to London.

With a occasion to celebrate, my friends and I decided to treat ourselves to another one of the 50 best restaurants, according to time out (as we speak, I've done 4; 46 left to go). After an hour of deliberating, we chose the Medlar. And it was perfect. They have a 3 courses set menu for £35 (lunch) and the quantities are just right so you're still hungry for desert (my usual weakness is to be too full by the time the desert cart arrives).I would give an extra point/golden star to the desert: very very light and not too sugary. It was really hard to choose but that's the good thing about going with a group of friend: you can take several and try them all: Chocolate tart with the texture of a fondant, Cheesecake melting in our mouth, the most fruity passionfruit ice cream and the grand finale: Pear beignet to dip in chocolate.Wine is a bit expensive - the minimum for a bottle is £30.

Second time here in two years. Just wonderful. Going back next week. Food is stellar and sommelier friendly and knowledgable.
