Great experience, worth the drive!
A bit outside the city but a great restaurant. We will definitely come back. Staff is very attentive. The food was amazing with a well deserved Michelin star! The restaurant located between the vineyards is impressive (although the interior feels a little cold).
Be the first to ReplyElegant and exquisite
Mesa de Lemos restaurant is a rare find. This exquisite and elegant restaurant boasts stunning architecture, views of the Quinta de Lemos winery and vineyards. Everything from the atmosphere to service and the meal itself is beautifully executed. From the starters โcarrot five waysโ to superb wine pairing from the Quinta dr Lemos, this place deserves 2nd Michelin star. Afternoon long and lazy lunch is a must and pair it with the winery visit. The experience was truly memorable. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyModern, Elegant, Light, Delightful
We selected Mesa de Lemos as our one fine-dining experience during a recent fortnight in Portugal and were pleasantly surprised. Whereas a number of modernist Michelin-starred restaurants seem to prioritize precision and presentation above richness and soul, MdL was able to successfully walk the line between light and austere.
The amuses -- three rounds, each with five variations on the theme -- did indeed amuse nos buches, Once we ventured onto the menu, we discovered a chef able to convey richness and flavor almost entirely without the use of fats or reductions. The result was quite satisfying while almost alarmingly healthy-tasting. And despite multiple courses, we walked away from the table still retaining a bit of spring in our step.
The wines are all from the quinta and run the gamut from forgettable to unforgettable, with the bulk being in the "very good" range. And service was almost militarily precise, while maintaining a friendliness that made us feel welcome.
Although quite expensive by Portuguese standards, American fans of high end dining will find it quite the bargain (I recall our total bill being under 400 euros including wine.)
too snobish
i really wanted a better experience than the one i got. at the end i had enjoyed the meal but some remarks are needed. To start with, the reservation process. I email them during vacation and never got a reply, so i phone them on the opening day. I was told the were fully booked for my desired date. I was astonished since i call them on the first day they opened after summer vacation. Some days later, my wife rang them and surprisingly she got the reservation. Whay would this happened ? So we were a little bit scared on the day: would we have or not the reservation ? Then let's speak about welcoming the restaurant. A nice girl welcomed us to our table. What a mess regarding my 10 year old son. We wanted a kid menu but were told that the chef was not prepared for that as we did not inform once reservation was made. But at the end with some suspense we had his kid menu. The lady seemed me a very snobish person too much for my taste, Food was great. Waiters cold unsmilling and nice. But i found a piece of metal from scrubbing the moules on my plate which i regret not have told the waiters. That is a big mistake. Lots of offers from the chef, nice. The desert was poor but very beutiful. Chef never came to the table during the service despite only 5 tables were occupied. Pionts to improve: reservation, food and service. Being a Michelin star restaurant should not mean a posh service. I have been to several fine dining restaurants around the world and some are very flexible over Menu and i had several times Chef coming to our table without being request by ourshelves. I was disapointed and probably will not return.

Eating in this restaurant is something you'll not forget a long tone.
Starting withe the location - in the middle of a Vineyard, with color of gold and green (October), the building is breathtaking. The architecture is Integrates into the landscape in a stunning way.
We took the 7 plats menu. It's actually more then 7, because the serve some starts from the chef kitchen. We took the wine pairing as well which was unforgettable. All wines were from the Vineyard , all of them the best of bried.
The price is not cheap, but it's a life time meal. Highly recommend if you like and appreciate food and beautiful landscape and unique architecture
