GREAT STEAK - POOR AMBIANCE
I would have given this restaurant 5 stars BUT it started out downhill the minute my husband and I drove up to the valet. A girl was standing at the door with her attention more on her phone than the customers waiting. I asked it this was Primecut and she advised affirmatively, however, the valet had not shown up yet so we parked along the street. She let us thru the barricade so we could enter the building. We were greeted with loud horrendous music. I had to scream at the hostess to tell her we had dinner reservations. Fortunately, the restaurant is in a closed door off the lobby. I thought that the loud music would be more muted but while somewhat muted, it became very annoying while eating. Our waiter, David, arrived and took our drink order. I asked if he could do something to quiet the music but he advised they were having a special event next door. My husband and I ordered the 8 oz. Filet Mignon which was scumptuous. The best I've had! We each ordered a side, his potatoes mine asparagus. I feel that the restaurant should provide as least one side for the price of $32 for the steak.
I know we won't be going back to Primecut. I also think the owner doesn't know what type of venue he wants. Either a nightclub with food or a steakhouse restaurant. But its evident: You Can't Do Both!
Had an outstanding dinner!
I saw a lot of bad or mediocre reviews and approached my dinner with low expectations. However, any expectations I had were far surpassed. That may mean a consistency issue or that the reviewers had overly high expectations (probably the former). In any event, I can only speak to the night I went. There was one waiter/bartender but the restaurant was not so crowded that it made an issue. He made my family of four feel quite welcome. Drinks/food/etc were all timely requested and provided (I am not one who likes to sit for hours waiting between food).
Yes, the vibe is not traditional for a steakhouse, but that was fine. The music was not too loud anyway and whether you liked it or not, it was not distracting. The overall decor was nice and well kept.
Everyone in the family ordered a steak (3 filet mignons and 1 strip steak). They were cooked exactly as ordered. They were tasty and could have been cut with a butter knife. We also ordered the sauteed spinach, macaroni and cheese, and corn. All three were excellent (not a big deal for corn... I mean who could mess up corn?). My wife didn't care for the spinach as much (she thought it should have been more of a cream sauce with it, but everyone else really liked it.
For dessert we split the creme brulee and the tiaramisu. Both were very well presented and both were very good.
Admittedly, the price is not cheap. Price is similar to a dinner at Ruth Chris, Capital Grille, 33s, Flemings or Smith & Wollenskis. WIth a Groupon, the price was maybe a touch less (took about $50 off a $250 dinner with tip if you add in the cost of the groupon). While I have been to each of the restaurants I named and, if push came to shove, I would say that maybe I liked them better (sometimes not as I have had crappy steaks at Flemings and Don Shulas), the vibe here was so different that it made it a more unique experience.
As for the surrounding area, it may not be the nicest part of Providence, but it's not too far from Providence College either.
Weird clubby vibe, good food
We visited here because of a Groupon. The restaurant is housed within a nightclub in a strange area. From the outside, there are no windows and it felt kind of sketchy. Inside it feels like a Miami club vibe with blue lights and big chandeliers and black leather couches. There are no windows and the music is... you guessed it, techno clubby! I wish I had been more prepared for the weird vibe. It was empty so that added to the strange atmosphere. We really enjoyed our food, although it's quite expensive so I don't think I'd return without a discount. Service was very good.

We went there for event. The place is nice looking inside, it also has outdoor seating which is nice. We ordered drinks from the outdoor bar. The place was clean. The bartender was not friendly at all, not even a smile. The drinks were good, but overpriced. Hors' doervres were tasty, but the servers were not good. They seemed very inexperienced or just didn't care. They kept going to the same tables and they only had 2 servers working. They have potential, but they need to get better employees
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambience and food
Primecut is a wonderful pace to enjoy the ambience Inside it is sleek, lighted in an intimate way. Outside the patio is as nice as any in the city, but not much of a view.
The food? The salmon was excellent and a very large portion. I had chicken Picatta and that was very well done as well. Do NOT order the French onion soup. It was terrible. Server brought out dinners and THEN the soup.
Mixed drinks were good, too.
Very good but empty
I feel Terrible for the owners and staff of this restaurant. It's beautiful, the staff is friendly and the food is very good yet on a Friday night only 3 tables were full. The place is empty! It is a steak house with appropriate prices for this type of cuisine and it was good! Perfectly cooked filet, scrumptious lobster Mac and cheese and delicious freshly baked bread with roasted garlic! I hope people start to come here. It'd be a shame if this place didn't make it.
Be the first to ReplySIDE DISHES CAME OUT 10 MINUTES AFTER STEAKS
decor was beautiful, the filet mignon exceptional, as good any high end steak houses but the sides came out 10 minutes later.we had whipped mashed potatoes and a baked potato, which came out when i just finished my filet.the whipped potatoes tasted like there was horse radish whipped in it which gave them a funny taste.the menu didnt mention horse radish potatoes ,just whipped mashed potato. we didnt touch the whipped after a couple of tastefuls..the waitress was good but very young and only there three weeks she did not offer to take the six dollar side off the bill, therefore we took it off the tip,15 percent instead og our usual 20 to 25 percent tip.
Be the first to ReplyIntimate atmosphere Steakhouse
The place has that intimate atmosphere and modern décor. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. The meals come out just a fine dining restaurant should be. The meals were served hot and appealing. The service person was very attentive without being overly bothersome. Server always was pleasant with a smile and did all she could do to make our meal pleasant.

I recently went to Primecut Steakhouse with a large group of friends for New Year's and started off the night with dinner. A lot of us ordered appetizers and salads to start, the seafood tower and the calamari was delicious. It did take a little while for some drinks to get delivered to the table although we were the largest group at the time. It took QUITE a while for dinner to come out, we were there for a total of three hours before we got dinner. I got the petite filet with potatoes au gratin and they were delicious!
After dinner we had bottle service at the nightclub next door Mezzo and it was awesome! The staff was very attentive and did a great job of checking in us while we were there.
Overall the dinner was average, I would like to eat there another time of being a holiday and judgement then. The nightclub was great and the combination made for a memorable new years.
Very good experience, almost 5 stars
My wife and I went here after a show in Providence on a Saturday night. We had 6pm reservations and we were quite surprised that we were the ONLY ones here. The restaurant was very nice, though small, and the couch table was very comfortable. The service was good, though we did feel a little rushed for such an expensive dinner. Apps came out less than 10 minutes after we ordered them and dinner came out quickly after we finished the apps. The food was very good. The tuna tartare app was excellent and the steaks were high quality and cooked perfectly. All in all the experience was very good and food was overall very good as well. Not sure why there was no one else there though....
