Far from Miami...
We sought out Cuban food in Boston while traveling through and went 30 minutes out of our way to come to this restaurant. My husband is Cuban, so Iโve experienced Cuban food at home, in Miami and in Cuba... this restaurant is far from any of those three experiences. First, Cubans are consistently kind and friendly. Upon entering, we were barely greeted and the girl taking orders was less than interested in talking to us. After ordering, and waiting 10-15 minutes, we realized everyone in the restaurant was still waiting for their food and they were there way before us... we still had nothing to drink and our food wasnโt even started in the kitchen. We left because we had a flight to catch and couldnโt wait an hour for our food. It seems as though this is a Caribbean restaurant misrepresenting itself as Cuban. If youโre looking for an authentic Cuban experience, unfortunately youโll need to look elsewhere.

SABOROSO
A small (about a dozen tables) restaurant for eat-in or take-out, located on Centre St. in Jamaica Plain. A pleasant change from the bromidic fare common through-out most of the Boston area, with a range of food from the common (e.g. beef and chicken) to the slightly more exotic (e.g. ox tail and cow hoof).
The food was good, although many items on the standard menu weren't available--other than the coffee (espresso, good), everything I ordered was a second-choice option (feel free to ask what's available when you walk in or sit down). Decent-to-good value (the batido was larger than I expected for $3.50), and the wait staff was pleasant and very attentive.
While Oriental was closed and repairing, Miami was a welcome alternative for Cuban sandwiches.
