A tradition worth repeating
Marvelous view, charming upscale setting and a long prestigious history accompanying this restaurant. Almost everything that is order is good! Very well recommended!

Four of us went to Mr. A’s for drinks and bar food on a Tuesday at 3:30. The view is lovely, and so is the place (in a Versailles rather than a SoCal kind of way). The blue chairs are very comfortable. Of course, nothing about Mr. A’s is average. I only gave that number of stars because the good and the bad averaged out. The service was good. The Old Fashioned cocktails were fantastic—and the block of square ice had “A” engraved on it. The food ranged from good to poor. Good: the lobster and cheese sandwich with fries. Poor: the caviar tater tots. They had way too little caviar, and tasted like flavorless mashed potatoes. Also poor: the flavorless arancini with winter truffles and goat cheese. The color was the same as the tater tots—a muddy brown. Very poor: the salt spring mussels. I looked these up, and they are supposed to be plump. These were not plump, they were small and scrawny; and had very little flavor. The prices followed the food. The lobster sandwich was well priced (that is lobster for you). The tater tots, arancini, and mussels were way too small for their inflated prices. These appetizers should be upsized, or their prices downsized. And flavor would help.

The decor, the views, the food, the service …it is just layers of wonderful experiences at Mr A’s. The waiter was very knowledgeable about wine in general, and of the wines on the menu. I had the beet salad and duck breast entree. My husband had French onion soup and the Dover sole entree. Everything is plated so beautifully, and the food is delicious.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect place for a holiday brunch!
We had Sunday brunch with the live jazz band playing and it was wonderful. Amazing views in all directions and so cool watching the planes land! Make sure to go during the holidays and try one of the specialty cocktails!
Be the first to ReplyVery pleasant and surprisingly affordable
I was by myself for Saturday jazz brunch, but unlike other places they didn’t try to seat me at the bar or out of the way. I got one of the regular tables outside, but just be aware there is limited shade, at least after 10:30 during DST. There are very affordable items on the menu if you’re worried about the price. I got the beignets that were listed as a starter, but I found them very filling. I forgot my lactase pills, so they made a non-dairy milk punch for me that was still frothy and creamy. The Italian limeade was also good.
Be the first to ReplyVERY RACIST & RUDE & UN-Welcoming
This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been in the US, very RACIST, unwelcoming, I came with my wife to san diego for my honeymoon, and the manger was very rude, because we are arabs and my wife was wearing a hijab.

What an incredible view of the city and airplane approaches. The food was amazing and staff was very responsive to your needs. Fine dining at it's finest!
Be the first to ReplyOnly one star for the view with mediocre food and bad service
1 star for the view! Terrible service and horrible food! Our first time after being remodeled. Beautiful but too many tables which result in poor service. 1. Old fashioned served on ice cubes, not big ice cube 2. Diluted old fashioned cocktail just poured over big ice cube. 3. Prime rib about to go bad- tasted funny. 4. Check was brought before we requested it. We could not finish the food and did not take a doggy bag. We are not coming back! Cannot explain why is so highly rated.
Be the first to Replyclassic eatery in San Diego
great to show off San Diego if you get to sit on a table by the window near the bar area or outside in the terrace. upsacale food. better for adults than children. if you go with children they tend to sit you far away on a corner.

Excellent experience from start to finish. The welcome, our table presentation, our server, the view, the food preparation, the service... it was all top notch. Mark was a true professional. He was attentive, fun and truly knows his craft. It's wonderful to be treated as individuals and not as a number. We will be return soon! Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Be the first to ReplyA gem that is hard to beat
Haven’t been here since before Covid pandemic. Now remodeled, it is just beautiful. The views are spectacular and the food is outstanding. We brought out of town guests who were blown away by not only the views and food, but by the maitre d, Jerry Capozzelli. He is so full of life and proud of this restaurant that he has been with for 39 years. He gave the 4 of us a tour and was just so enthusiastic and entertaining. He made the night very special and enjoyable for us. Can’t wait to return!

We ate at Mister A's last night to celebrate our Anniversary. I have always wanted to eat there and I was first impressed with the view! Our waitress was cheerful and attentive as was her assistant. Our food was just OK, I ordered the Cod and it was not good at all! My husband ordered the Short Ribs and they were delicious. We had wine and bread as our appetizer. And, ordered the brownie for dessert, also very good. BUT, it would have been nice for the waitress to let us know we were being offered a dessert because of our Anniversary, 2 desserts was too much. I'm not sure our dinner was worth the cost, as it should have been perfect and one of the best dinners ever.... it wasn't.
Be the first to ReplyJust What I Needed
On this solo business trip, I decided to try this restaurant per a recommendation I received while at a conference and I’m so glad I went. I made reservations for myself earlier that day, somewhere between 6 - 7:30p I believe. I got there just in time to watch the sunset. From my experience in the lobby downstairs to the end of service I received, everyone treated me with 5 star service. Once I arrived, they took me to a table inside which is not what I wanted, though I sat down anyways. When the waiter came I asked if I could move and sit outside (I came partially for the views) and he was able to work with the manager to get me a table outside under a heat lamp. My new server was Jessica who was extremely courteous, patient, and knowledgeable of the menu items. I ordered the lobster risotto and Brussel sprouts (see pics). Food was quite good and I was very pleased with the portions although there was more risotto than I could finish. You also get to see planes flying in to the airport close by which was a surprise as I didn’t know that’s where I was. It was a cool experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my solo date night and would definitely go again. I have videos of when night fell but no pics of it
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and great view
We went there with our colleagues to cerebrate. We got a perfect table with beautiful view of Dan Diego. The services was great and the food and drinks were perfect. Definitely want to go back again.
Be the first to ReplyVERY RUDE at Fronr desk Never be back
I Live in Texas 75 yr old professional. Heard from many about views and bar so my Sister took me before go to airport. Got there Tuesday and met by hostess who said can't come in there is a wedding, asked to see views no wedding, no drink or c view there is wedding, not accommodating rude. Then lads out maybe manger repeats at least 2 times, then looks at me no hat no tee shirt. I can remove hat but no tee shirt on and she was very rude and almost mean. Sent to mister As but had a limit With all the folks I know in San Diego between my Sister and myself will make sure everyone I know will know not to go to a very rude, snobby rude so called restaurant. Be the first to ReplyRecent complete re-do, just as outstanding
First time dining since the remodel.. four of us wanted to see/taste the difference. First impression - a beautiful, yet subtle, re-do. The elegance, charm, atmosphere is the same quality as it alway has been; service is impeccable, whether you chose the indoor or outdoor areas. An accessible, expansive bar and small eating area is added on the east (Park) side; the former bar is re-configured as a service bar in the west (airport) dining area. We picked an early Sunday evening timeframe, and were promptly seated at a window table overlooking the airport and Bay in time to watch the sun set over Point Loma. Kateryna offered cocktails, and suggested pork belly and beef tartare for appetizers for the table. Yum! Later dinners included salmon, pork chop, scallops, and rack of lamb. All entrees have some vegetables included; we added truffle fries. We had individual glasses of wine off the menu. Every dish was well presented, hot, and delicious. We ended the night with after dinner drinks outside in the lounge area. Elizabeth coached us through the choices, made certain the heaters were stoked, and was sincerely friendly and accommodating. Suggest bringing a sweater or jacket if you're eating on the balcony. I have been a patron of lunches there for years.. not happening right now. Kateryna said management hopes to start brunch weekend service soon.. didn't ask if it was a personnel or service issue. You'll be impressed with the personnel, service, atmosphere, drink, and food here.. and justly so. $$$$$
Be the first to ReplyWish the food matched the view
We had to ask for a drink for one of the people at our table three times before getting it and that took about 20 minutes. We were at a table with a view but a short wall caused the waiters to bump into the person by the wall every time they came to serve us anything. This was a horrible distraction and uncomfortable for the person sitting in that chair. The tables seem to be crammed in to make more room for more people. Not impressed at all. 3 of us ordered the pork chop. 2 of us thought it was terrible and the other person thought it was okay. This is a very expensive dish to have to throw away because it wasn't good enough to eat at all for 2 of us. When someone came by to ask how things were, and I said just okay, he didn't bother to ask a follow-up question and acted as though everything was great. It wasn't! Whoever thought the color scheme in the bathroom matched is not a designer. I don't know who in their right mind would put the floor tile, with the wall paper, and everything else in the bathroom together and think it looks good. Shocking to me how bad it looks, especially since it was just remodeled. The only good thing I have to say is that the beet salad was good and definitely for 2-3 people as the price would indicate (expensive so it better be large). Not sure I will be back any time soon. The view is great but too bad the food and the service didn't come close to matching the view.

First of all me and my Wife had some fine sex in the bathroom. The food was average. I don’t know why people like it. Also the table had crumbs all over it
Be the first to ReplyGood but let the ingredients do the job
Mr A’s restaurant has something to say for it. Well for starters the location is what counts. Fine location in downtown San Diego but it is also on the rooftop providing an excellent view on the city and incoming planes. Unparalleled. The diner was good not great. It is not cheap, and they are proud what they serve. I had tuna for starters and a “to follow “ was a tenderloin and the finish a crème brûlée. Technically fine, but I would have preferred a little less garlic, salt , cream and melted cheese . I know that this is easy on the palate and akin comfort food but let the ingredients do the job, chef

My wife and I went to Mister A's for our anniversary dinner. It was a great choice. We arrived just before sundown and were able to get some awesome pictures on the rooftop. We ate out on the roof and the view was fantastic. Service and food were excellent too!

Amazing food, even better view (especially at night). Wait staff was exceptional, and food was my favorite of this trip. Worth the ride share trip to get there!

Wonderful outdoor dining above the arriving aircraft into SAN. Great and attentive service. Extensive wine list. Great vegetarian options. Everybody in our party really enjoyed the entire experience. Look forward to return trip!
Be the first to ReplyService was terrible
I've been going to Mr. A's since 1970. It used to be a wonderful old school place with flocked red wsll paper. It's been brought up to date and the food is still pretty classic.
We waited for o over 20 minutes before someone even asked us if we wanted a drink and that was after I complained to a busboy.
I'd say it was the worst service I've had in a nice restaurant in years. I tipped 20% out of habit or something but I resented it. I really don't imagine going back.
