ML Haarlem Reviews from The Last Year
Enjoy in the bistro
We celebrated last night that two of our children passed their final exams. The welcome at ML's bistro was very friendly and good. After drinking Champagne as an aperitif, we enjoyed the beautiful ambiance and the view. We chose tasty starters from the menu such as steak tartare, French onion soup and ceviche. As a main course we had veal steak, salmon, confit de canard and Wagyu steak. And of course fries. We chose Raddeck blanc de noir as a matching wine. Everything tasted fantastic and two of us ran out of room for dessert. The chocolates with the coffee were sublime and just not strong. The lady blanche was also very tasty. A really nice evening together in a super nice bistro.
we have been fine
it is one of the restaurants inside the hotel where we stayed. The rooms are, as usual in Holland, a little dark. Wooden tables, paintings on the walls, comfortable environment. the menu features both meat and fish with a good choice. The quality of the food is good and the service was also fast.
Nice lunch in the sun
Nice place to have lunch in the spring sun, friendly service and tasty dishes. Definitely recommended in the center of Haarlem
Nice place!
This restaurant is a nice quiet place in a beautiful building. Tasty coffee, delicious lunch dishes. tip: book in time!
ML is also a special place in Haarlem on Valentine's Day.
A promise is a promise. After our previous stay in this characteristic and attractive hotel, located in the former Joh. Enschedé buildings opposite the Bavo church in the heart of Haarlem, as promised in the previous review, we returned to pamper our inner self. Valentine's Day was a great occasion for this. Many restaurants offer a beautiful culinary menu, including ML. A high-quality taste experience was recommended on the website for the star restaurant and bistro in the form of a Valentine's menu. We opted for the informal variant, with an overnight stay afterwards. Of course, we made a reservation in time to avoid disappointment. After all, culinary Valentine's experiences are becoming increasingly popular with young and old. And why not, add a stake to celebrate life together in our lives driven by full agendas. The check-in at the hotel on Klokhuisplein was very cordial, the upgrade was welcome again. This time not to the superior suite, but to a deluxe room. It was a nice room, large double bed, luxurious bathroom, Marie Stella Maris products, good WiFi, small TV, sitting area, desk and an Illy coffee machine with 2 capsules, kettle with several tea bags. A quiet room in the courtyard, overlooking the kitchen and with a view of parts of the Appelaar. The warm welcome at the Valentine's dinner by the host of the evening was a nice start. Dinner was served in a period room with a view of the Damstraat and the Bavo church. Lights in the trees at the Oude Groenmarkt were on. All adding to the atmosphere. This also applies to the space itself. The furniture, wall coverings and paintings made you imagine yourself in a time where members of the Enschedé family lived in luxury long ago. We were lucky to be seated at a round table tastefully decorated in the theme of the evening and with a view of the church that is photographed by so many tourists every day. Tonight's guests too, by the way. A Polaroid was made on Valentine's Day paper as a souvenir. Very nice. As the evening progressed, fortunately the place turned out to be well occupied by a group of mixed ages. A special occasion with a well-stocked restaurant is a good indicator of whether a restaurant is performing well. That is also the norm in this corner of the city, where ML with its hotel, restaurants and bar is hemmed in by, among others, PHIL and the North Holland court, thoroughbreds in the cultural and legal world. The personable host and sommelier on duty opened the ball with a fresh Prosecco Rosé. It tasted fruity, fresh, full and wanting more. No carafe of water, but a bottle of Chaudfontaine. A basket of cracking fresh bread and some butter completed the entrance. This was followed by a shared starter served by a friendly employee. Cauliflower, curry and yogurt. A tasteful fresh combination and brightly presented. The same applied to the Ceviche. Raw fish, cooked in an acidic marinade with lemon juice, avocado and carrots. The announced mandarin had ended up on another plate. A nice palette of flavors. A beautifully fresh starter. For the entree, the host served a first glass of red wine. Il Sole Orizon, a dark fruity and spicy Italian (Sicily), chosen on his advice. Very pleasant to drink. Fortunately, the host kept a close eye on his guests with a quick glance or a chat, without being too present, so that a second glass was not far away. And always ask if everything was to your liking. The entree was Tataki. Briefly cooked steak with teriyaki sauce, garnished not with the spring onion mentioned on the menu, but with tastier red onion, sweet and sour vegetables and cashew nuts. To die for. And this dish was also beautifully presented. The main course was guinea fowl fillet, cut into strips and draped on a ridge of sauerkraut in a bath of butter. What a combination, so tasty. The 'shared' dessert was a delicious end to the menu. Champagne mousse, meringue and mango and red pepper ice cream. Beautiful color combination on the plate and especially with the ice cream it was like Cupid on your tongue etc. After coffee and tea we fluttered on Cupid's wings to the nice hotel room. In the morning we had a great breakfast in the adjoining period room, a soggy omelette in butter, fresh orange juice, rolls, croissants, savory and sweet fillings, delicious cappuccino and tea, fresh fruit (with peeled orange), seedless grapes, cottage cheese and muesli. . Although served a little less passionately than by the employees the night before, but very tasteful and we were able to enjoy another great stay at this special place near ML. Topper
Last weekend my wife and I celebrated our annual wedding anniversary here. It was the 2nd time we were here Once again it was a wonderful experience, a wonderful reunion Everything here is 100% The people who work there, the rooms, the restaurant with a great dinner, the cozy bar, the location right next to the St Bavo Church in the center, etc..etc… Parking the car here is also great, less than a minute's walk. We received this address 2 years ago from our children, who were also very enthusiastic We will definitely come back here again Highly recommended
Nice ambiance for coffee.
Atmospheric building in the heart of Haarlem. Various period rooms where the bistro is located. Excellent hot (!) cappuccino. Delicious carrot cake. Nicely served by a friendly young man. It's nice that coats are accepted upon arrival and handed out again upon departure. Toilets in the basement via a steep staircase. The original medieval well is still visible there. There is a hotel and a Michelin star restaurant in the same building.
Super meal. Lovely restaurant
Chose the €45 special menu in the bistro. Everything was really good. Lovely presentation, flavours, ambience, staff etc. this went to make it excellent. Had steak tartare, sole and tarte tatin. Thoroughly recommend.
The "star" has fallen.
As a Michelin* restaurant, how do you quickly get some money on New Year's Eve? We booked for dinner. Initially the restaurant was open until 11 p.m. However, at the last minute we received a call that the closing time was scheduled for 10 p.m. Dinner (4 or 5 courses) started at 7.30 pm which meant that you had 2 1/2 hours to finish dinner including drinks. We knew that. The various courses were served quickly. The food was of good quality, but otherwise we had the feeling that we were in a brasserie. No tablecloth on the table. Sandwiches simply had to be cut on the table (no plates). No fish cutlery with the fish dishes. 1 guest did not eat fish but, despite prior notification when booking, was served fish for 3 courses. Service just ran smoothly on a daily basis. Character evening not taken into account. A course of fish (cod) was cold. The guinea fowl did not have an equal distribution of meat for one guest, there were 2 pieces of guinea fowl on the plate and 1 piece for the other. Beef tenderloin was way too raw. We were not asked in advance how we wanted the meat. After pouring, the bottle of white wine was simply placed on the table (no cooler with ice as usual. Had to be specifically asked for it, which caused some irritation among the service). Desert (Tarte Tatin with ice cream) was only served with a spoon, not with a fork. There were no cookies or chocolates or other friandises with the coffee and while we were still eating desert, the bill was immediately placed on the table (without us asking for it). Presenting a dinner in this way is absolutely *not* dignified. If you, as management, decide to keep your restaurant open on New Year's Eve, you also have the obligation to treat your guests in a dignified manner with a warm welcome and not to saddle your guests with the feeling of sitting in a brasserie and a 5- course dinner, excuse me, and charge €600 or (perhaps more for other guests) for it. So perhaps as a suggestion for the end of 2024. Close the restaurant or keep it open, but also offer full service in an appropriate ambiance.
Not sufficient in any respect
What should have been a nice New Year's Eve 2023 turned out to be a big disappointment in ML bistro. The organization seemed chaotic and the staff seemed stressed. We were the second table in, but we only received our first dish after all but one table of the guests who came after us had already received their starter or intermediate course. Eye contact was consistently avoided by the sparse staff who brought dishes, so it was not possible to make contact to order some drinks. Finally we got up and ordered something and reported that we had already been inside for an hour and still had not received a dish. There were excuses from a manager with a kind of "you were apparently incorrectly registered in the system by the waiter", which is quite cowardly because such a situation should be intercepted by a manager who can check the order of entry of the tables and distribution. can keep an eye on the kitchen. Unfamiliar with the composition of the menu, I ordered a bottle of Riesling, but it had too much sweetness to go well with the dishes. A good sommelier intercepts that. While we had to wait an hour for the first course, the intermediate course came immediately afterwards. The manager offered to bring a glass of red wine with the main course (one person in our party declined because he did not drink alcohol) but after that we saw nothing more of the offer. Moreover, two people did not have meat but fish, so red wine was less appropriate. Instead, she (clearly agitated by the dissatisfaction expressed by us) rather clumsily emptied our bottle of wine while there was still wine in our glasses and no dish was yet to be served. This evening there was no a la carte and therefore easy to plan because the number of guests, arrival time and menu are known in advance. Nevertheless, an unimaginative menu with little variety and depth that any hobby chef can easily put together. Price quality was not in proportion. The manager asked if we wanted to take a break for the main course after the too fast intermediate course and that was of course fine. Then it took way too long again and we had to get up for the second time to ask for the main course to be served. We ordered no meat twice, but unfortunately four main courses with meat arrived. The plates of meat went back to the kitchen to return within a few seconds with the same waiter after which he served the four main courses with meat at a price of two. The main course was unimaginative and no longer warm. Dessert meager. All in all a disappointing experience at ML, it did not score a sufficient score on any point, so from now on we will ignore it.
Kite
What an experience! Had a six course menu. Started with three fantastic amuses followed by beautifully presented plates, great flavors and beautiful combinations. Beautiful classic wine list with lots of choice. Finish with a cup of coffee with delicious friandises. Are there no negative things? Well maybe the fact that the kitchen staff started scrubbing the floor while people were still eating. But that's actually nitpicking. But definitely recommended and worth the Michelin star.

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
