Worth the wait
As so many other visitors have commented - Mrs Wilkes is such a worthwhile experience. The line is long but organised. They take in 4 x 10 people in the first sitting then after about 29 mins a second set of 4x 10 people. As great niece says in her welcome - once you are in there are no more waits as the tables are set with so many southern comfort dishes including the infamous fried chicken. Every dish is yummy. Eating with at least 8 other strangers is only temporarily uncomfortable as the ice is easily broken by discussing the delicious food. You pay your $30 per head on leaving - no cards accepted just cash or cheque. Highly recommend.

The best chicken I've had in my life! Everything was really good! Highly recommend, even waiting an hour with a hurt back!
Be the first to ReplyMrs. Wilkes is the Southern Comfort Food Grandma Everyone Needs!
A true southern comfort food experience. Start your day by skipping breakfast...trust me, if you don't, you will wish you had! Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room is a scenic walk from the river front. We arrived at 10:45 am and were the second couple in line. When we left the line wrapped around the corner! I can appreciate there's a long wait if you are not in the first or second group to eat. You will be guided in to sit at a table with about 10 other people. Don't be shy, you may be amazed at who you meet! We had such a great time eating and conversing with our tablemates, one of which was Mr. Wilkes, I completely forgot to take photos...a first for me! But a true testament to how delicious the food and amazing the company was! Food is served family style. It is all you can eat. Bring a second stomach, you will need it! We never felt rushed. It is well worth the $30 per person charge. 🛑 They only accept cash or check. But don't fear, there is an ATM on site for those who forget. Mrs. Wilkes is the southern comfort food Grandma everyone needs!
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite southern experiences!
Wonderful experience. This was our third visit. The food is just delicious. My favorite is the fried chicken. The staff are so friendly and helpful! Even got to meet some of Mrs. Wilkes family members. You really should make a point to visit! You will not be disappointed.

The food is as delicious as you hope it’ll be! Here’s how it works (posting these details because I couldn’t find this info when I searched prior to going): We arrived at 10:15 on a Friday and the line was already about 80ish people long. We were finally seated a few minutes after noon. There are eight tables that each sit eight. So, if you’re further back in line than 64, you won’t get seated when they first open. Once they seat all of them, no one else will be seated until a full table leaves. All of the food and sweet tea is already on the table when you sit down. Don’t worry about not getting to each bowl of food, they’ll be refilled if you need more. I read some advice to take one spoonful of each thing - that’s great advice. There’s a TON of different dishes. And definitely save room for dessert, both options are absolutely delicious. The staff are all super sweet, we didn’t feel at all rushed. But, knowing there was still a line of folks waiting, the kind thing to do is finish up, get up, pay and go. You’ll need a bit of walking around to work that meal off! No credit cards accepted, by the way, so make sure you remember to bring cash.

Absolutely wonderful. This is a must when in Savannah. Great food! Great Atmosphere! Great Staff! Located on a scenic street. The family style experience is one to experience. You get to meet new people and enjoy great food. It was definitely worth the wait in line.
Be the first to ReplySemi southern. Good gives a bad name for southern cooking
The food is out of a can or box. The banana pudding is jello with a few banana and wafers out of box. It is cooked southern style. Not worth the time or money.
Be the first to ReplyBest southern food in Georgia!
This was the best food I've had in Georgia! Fun experience eating with strangers. There was a wait but it was so worth it. Recommend to arrive 45 min before opening. Food was fantastic! Everything I imagined southern food to be. All the side dishes were incredible and loved the fried chicken. Staff was very pleasant. Highly recommend!

This is a must when you visit Savannah. The wait is worth it. The food and service is top notch. All home cooked and the variety that is given to try is wonderful.

Food was good, but too many choices. Unfortunately, we did not happen to get congenial tablemates, but not the fault of the restaurant. Service was great and the managers were helpful. Would go again and hope for nicer people at our table.

This is an experience to enjoy while in Savannah. Loads of food and attentive service. Seating with people you didn't know before! The fried chicken is very good and the sides are plentiful. Some I liked and some not so much but make a stop when in town.
Be the first to ReplyNice people , food was just ok.
They service and people were lovely. I just expected the food to be better. The fried chicken was good , but the sides and desserts were just average.

We had seen reviews for this place and went there for lunch when we came into town. Wow!!! The food is unreal and for the two of us we had enough for 10. Great people. Folks need to support them. Just awesome food, service and people. When I’m Savannah you gotta go
Be the first to ReplyTHE FOOD IS AWESOME.
So I started reviewing restaurants last year and my reviews have spiked a few spots. Well add this post to your list. The food is amazing. Please arrive 1015-1030 to get in the line for the first seating. They have the food on the table already for you and it’s fresh and hot. The greens are the best. Chicken friend to a crisp. Omg. I didn’t care for the max and cheese but it was tasty. Everything else was awesome. Costs 30.00 tho. But 2 rounds and I was full to the rim. Going back tomorrow lol!!!!

I am from Savannah and grew up eating here. I worked in tourism for the State of Georgia for 12 years. They sent me all over the State eating at the best of the best. I went back to Mrs. Wilkes last week. Got a chance to talk with her Granddaughter. They haven't changed much. This is a legendary place and the food will not disappoint you. I have seen a lot of restaurants open up over the years. Some became very famous. But the bottom line is "They are just Mrs. Wilkes Wannabes." I give it 20 Stars
Be the first to ReplyA great, one time experience!
The food was amazing! Staff is great and very friendly. Large portions and family style dining. We really enjoyed all of the dishes. We got in line at 10am for them to open at 11. Worth the wait! My only complaint would be their short hours. $30 a person but for something to do once, it’s worth it.

My wife and I visited Mrs. Wilkes' Kitchen this weekend for the first time. For those of you who have not been, here are a few things to know. 1) They serve from 11am to 2pm. If you are in line before 2pm, you will be seated. 2) The cost per person is $30. Cash only! There is an ATM in the restaurant. 3) You eat family style at large tables. Our table sat 10 people. It's alot more fun if you introduce yourselves to your table mates. At our table were 3 people from Florida, a guy from Melbourne Australia and a couple from Toronto. 4) There is usually 2 meat dishes and lots of vegetables. When we ate there was fried chicken (totally delicious) and beef stew. All the vegetables were great. Think of what you typically have at Thanksgiving. 5) Eat as much as you want. If a bowl of something goes empty, they will refill it. But leave enough for dessert. It's really good. Worth the wait and the price. Come hungry!

I have never eaten dinner with strangers but that is what makes it a 5-star review. Would do it again..

Mrs Wilkes Restaurant was everything we had heard about it and more. Our shared table was filled with friendly and happy folks. The food came and came and came. It was delicious and more than plentiful. A great experience.
Be the first to ReplySavannah Must Visit
A must-visit on any trip to Savannah! Family style meals served in communal tables by warm and friendly staff. They are only open from 11am-2pm on weekdays so expect a line. Items served are southern favorites such as out-of-this-world fried chicken, regular and cheesy mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, collard greens, jambalaya rice, fried okra and many more. All you can drink sweet tea comes with the all you can eat food for $30, cash only. I make sure I stop by Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room whenever I’m in the area. Sometimes I visit the city just to eat here. Simple but really, really good food!
Be the first to ReplySouthern food deliciousness!
A last minute decision to visit this local establishment gave us the best meal of the day. We happened to get in fairly quickly tho I hear the wait can be long. A table full of food served family style awaited us and it was delicious. I only wished I could have eaten more! While you can’t order off a menu, there really is something for everyone. Don’t expect anything too high-brow but whatever you eat will be delicious. Probably the best fried chicken I’ve ever had and the biscuits were incredible. My only beef was that we didn’t have a full table and the food left on the table made my heart hurt. It was clear that the owner wasn’t used to having so much left over. Just sad to see it go to waste.

This was by far the best meal we had in 3 days in Savannah! We got in line at 10:00AM for the 11:00 opening. Actually we were 1st in line! The one hour wait (there are benches, if you get there early enough) was well worth it! I ate every dish that was presented on the table, and I loved it all, even the collard greens, which I never had before. Make time to experience this place when in Savannah.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food worth the 2-hour wait
Despite waiting in line for 2 hours cuz it's limited hours and it's family style dining terrific experience. The fried chicken was amazing along with the biscuits and lots of other food My roommate and I left very full and very satisfied. Not only that it's a fun experience you at least have to go one time if you go to Savannah if you've never been there before. There's a lot of history involved and the staff are very awesome about telling you how it started as a dining hall back in the old days. Great experience
