Incredible service, even under the pall of a pandemic
Having been to Nazca Mochica any number of times, and finding it an absolute delight, I was pleased to find that it remains open for take out & delivery during the trying times of shelter-in-place orders. When I tried to place an order for delivery this evening, I couldn't find a way to complete it, so I called -- and was awed with the patient support I received. The woman with whom I spoke tried repeatedly to place my order, using different delivery services and working from her own phone to try various options. Wth her persistence, my order finally went through! It wasn't long before my contact-free delivery arrived, and I once again savored the restaurant's excellent causitas and cebiche. Many thanks for this incredible level of service!
Be the first to ReplyWorst experience ever.
I have been living in DC for the lat 20 years I am originally from Peru too My mom came to see me from California. So i came across this place not long ago and it did looks nice from out side, so I decided to give it a try, Worst mistake ever, this is not a peruvian restaurant, i do not know what is it?, but not peruvian, it looks elegant but doesn't matter because doesn't give me peruvian elegant eather, the music not peruvian, the food defenelly not peruvian, they mix flavors the wrong way, so I did order the (aji de gallina) but instead the brought me an albino's vomit, not kidding, the thing look and taste like chicken from a can, mix with some yellow souse that didn't even taste like aji de gallina, next i did also order (anticuchos) ,again did not taste like anticuchos were not even close. BTW anticuchos are made with the cows heart,NOT WITH BEEF. My mom order was: (Arroz con mariscos) it was flavorless the rice was so mushy like a rice pudding. (masacote) what a mess.I spent a total of 100 dollars for having the worst experience ever. They are lucky that my mom was with me, otherwise I would it made a scene that they will never forget. For all the people out there, don't do this to yourself this place does not represent Peru at all. I'm sure the owner is from Chile that why is given such horrible reputation to Peruvian food and if you really wanna try peruvian food, save some money an take a trip an have a real peruvian experience, I wish I know a good peruvian restaurant, but does not the case.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food for Happy Hour
Been here for lunch before and like it so this time quite happy to come for happy hour when a friend suggested it. The place is on two levels, upper is the dining and lower - street level - is the bar. Apparently a popular place for HH, as around 5:30 pm on a Friday it was already quite busy. The interior is similar shape to the dining room, smallish so not overly noisy, deep and narrow, with bar counter on one side and one row of small tables along the other side, plus a small, more intimate space in the back. The HH menu is not extensive but has some good selections - same apps a few $$ less than on the regular menu (a bit different - better price than what's on the website). We had the causitas - very pretty presentation, dumplings and chicken wings (deboned more like nuggets) with a tangy and spicy sauce - so delicious we ordered it 3 times. The ceviche also fresh and tasty (also tried the ceviche mixto from the regular menu). Drinks - the mojito a bit of a surprise as it wasn't at all sweet, refreshing Pisco sour, and if you are looking for a non alcoholic beverage you won't go wrong with the mildly sweet deep purple chicha. With 7 drinks and 11 plates the 4 of us averaged about $33/pp before tip - a bit higher than I expected but we probably did go heavier on the food for HH.

Almost every dish on the menu was outstanding! The one non-Peruvian offering was a disappointment but that did not detract much from the wonderful service, ambiance, and flavors that this exciting place offers. Going back soon!
Be the first to ReplyIt was only average
It is a small restaurant spread over several floors, and the space was attractive. The server was pleasant and attentive, but he was not Peruvian and was not able to answer fairly basic questions about how several dishes were prepared and seasoned without a trip to the kithcen to talk to the chef. We had two ceviches which were not as subtle and complex as I have had at other restaurants. The grilled octopus was nicely prepared and tender. My friend had a chicken dish which she rated as a disappointment. The pisco sours were typical and tasty. Bottom line for me is I have had better and more authentic Peruvian food, including in Washington. I think you can do better.

Be the first to ReplyNice variety of options for Restaurant Week
Nazca Mohica offered only a restaurant week menu but it was diverse and interesting. We have been attracted to Peruvian food in other cities and wanted to try this cozy spot near Dupont Circle. Our appetizers came out quickly and were very good. We both chose the lamb stew, which was outstanding. The lamb was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The large portion of lamb was served with pickled red onions, Peruvian corn, lima beans and small potatoes. It was a delicious dish. For dessert we opted for the small cookies filled with dolche de leche. A full wine and drink list was available or you could order one of three wines (red, rose or white) selected to match with the dishes served during restaurant week. The restaurant definitely merits a return visit.

Having dined at a Michelin Star restaurant last week in CA, I had hIgh expectations of dining in DC. Perhaps it was restaurant week or the fact that we were in a group, but Nazca fell far short of expectations. Nothing was bad, but it wasnโt outstanding either. There was a lack of flavor in all courses. Further, our waitress was often absent. We needed to flag her down a few times which got annoying towards the end of such a long dinner. Overall, average experience.
Be the first to ReplyWow! What a find!
Wow! What a find! My husband and I love this place! We are pescatarian (we donโt eat chicken, beef or pork) and there was plenty for us to choose from on the menu. The food is as beautiful as it is delicious. The service was prompt and attentive. We will definitely be back!
