The restaurant looks nice butโฆ
Food looks great. But sitting is limited on busy nights and way too overcrowded. Thereโs no individual table to be seated at. Youโll be seated beside other people.

I was very disappointed. I give tours of the city and was looking forward to a meal at Neptune Oyster. It was on our "bucket List" of restaurants in the city. Not anymore. The food was average at best. The Service is excellent, the oysters are excellent. The rest is average at best. We always wash up before a meal. The bathroom at Neptune Oyster gets a 2 out of 10. The chowder gets a 4 out of 10. If you want to try great Clam Chowder, go to the Union Oyster House, The sail loft or even Legal Sea foods. This is Boston and it should be special. The Lobster is good, but it should be. The Tuna was average. The burgers were average. If you want a $150.00 lunch you will find better places in the city at 1/2 the price. Many of them in the North End withing walking distance of Neptune Oyster.
Be the first to ReplyGreat seafood stop in Bostons North End!
The seafood menu here is fantastic, and the food was excellent. This is a very small restaurant, but it's worth the wait if you aren't in a hurry. Happy we found this gem in Little Italy on Bostons North End.

Last 2 visits have been sub parโฆ not very good. Once a good place, now over priced & over rated. Lobster roll was extremely tough/chewy. Fries were not seasoned & just yuck. This spot is off our list

First time in Boston and decided to try this place because so many colleagues recommended it and raved about the Lobster rolls. I shouldn't have listened. The lobster roll had no flavor at all and neither did the bread. The fries were soggy and burnt. I have no idea why so many people recommend this place but it's not worth $40 for a lobster roll. Only good thing I can say is the lady that took my order was nice and the food did come out quick. That's about it.

Neptune is a very small place; no reservations and yes, if you go in the middle of lunch or dinner hours, you will see a line. Thatโs not what we do. We go just after lunch hours, like 2-3pm or just before the dinner crunch, and have no problem. Great fresh oysters, crab, and classic Boston seafood. One of the only places you can usually find razor clams on the menuโฆcasino style. Excellent! Efficient and friendly service. Pay no attention to the โtouristyโ label. Weโre BU alums and have been going there for decades. This is one of those places that never changes, and is a classic donโt miss!

Delicious oysters! We had to wait in line outside in January in 20 degree temps for about 20 minutes. This is a tiny restaurant that serves approx 40 people at a time. Tight quarters. Donโt go here for date nite. The fish stew was delicious, and the fried clams were 2nd to none. I had a lobster roll with butter, which I wasnโt crazy about, Iโve had much better, but there was a lot of lobster in the roll.

We came for dinner after reading that the restaurant had one of the best clam chowders and lobster rolls. Sadly, i was disappointed with both. The buttered lobster roll had no butter, i had to wait for them to melt some and bring it, without it was flavorless. Row 34 has way better lobster rolls and Union Oyster has way better clam chowder. However, the oysters were great, excellent selection of those. Looking over my credit card charges the following week I noticed a small $4 discrepancy, more than likely an innocent error when manually entering the tip. I called the restaurant, not because I need those $4 back, but because they should be made aware. I was transferred to someone with zero customer service skills. She asked me 3 times if i was wanting the $4 back. No apology didn't even say goodbye when she got off the phone. Supposedly she will forward my name, phone number and date of dinner to someone. But not even an "Im sorry", but really? she hung up without saying goodbye, and I was very nice and understanding on the phone. I will never return.
Be the first to ReplyBest oysters and Bay Scallops w Chimi-cheery bartenders
What awesome seafood in the heart of the North End. Small place and warm-do not wear a sweater, and they have you covered with enough hooks for coats. Fun staff-was all women on the Saturday we went and they were super nice and very knowledgeable on both food and drink. Excellent oysters of course, but surprised they had Washington state oysters too-great on a platter to note the East Coast-West Coast difference. Super fresh. Wellfleet chowder is not your chunky thick chowder, a more creamy brothy version; Uni toast was slathered in umami uni flavored butter-definitely share one app as it is rich! The best dish was the Bay Scallops with Chimichurri-get extra of their excellent bread to sop it all up. Guiness and Muscadet with the oysters was a hit. Lobster rolls looked phenomenal. Excellent and worth the wait.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful fresh seafood and some gourmet prepared items too.
Well, this place lives up to its popularity. The dozen oysters were delicious but the standouts were the cioppino (uniquely not tomato based and one of the very best I've ever had!) and the bluefin crudo. It's a little pricey and cozy/crowded but worth the wait in line and the scrunchy quarters. Warning: they do not serve dessert.

First time here. Went for dinner. Good sized line at the door. Waited about 30 min on a WEDS at 530pm. Place is small with maybe 12 seats at the bar and another 20 shoulder to shoulder table seats. We had the fried clams (excellent) the lobster roll (very good) and the blue crab cocktail which was the best crab I've had in my life. Honest. Service was great. Beer prices were high but none of the food was out of line for the freshness and quality. Can't wait to return.

We absolutely love this restaurant, over the years it only seems to improve! We were very glad to see that the scallop and duck confit dish remains on the menu and is as delicious as ever! We came on a bad weather day so we knew that we wouldn't have to wait too long, which was a good plan! We got in right away but because this restaurant is THAT GOOD, it remained full throughout the night despite the horrid weather. We brought out of town guests who loved the oysters we chose, the lobster, and the lobster-pasta dish, so good - they left with the best possible impression of Boston cuisine, thank you, Neptune Oyster, you never disappoint.
Be the first to ReplyBest Lobster bun and tacos ever.
I had seen a show about the best lobster bun in Boston. So when we were in town we decided to try the spot. We went on a Sunday for early lunch and wow. Glad we came early. As it got packed very fast. They where serving a lobster bisque and lobster tacos. Amazing. So was the lobster Roll we ordered. For sure a spot to come back to on our next trip.

A great selection of oysters and other raw options. The tuna crostini is awesome. But there are also options for people like my wife who want fully cooked food. She said the fried clams were as good as she has ever had. Wines to go with everything. And our server had such great character. (We ended up with a different server's name on our bill, so we can't give her a shout out by name since I never remember names).
Be the first to ReplyMary and Jenny โฆ Top class service
We fell across this place on a snowy Sunday afternoon.. who knew there were so many types of oysters!!! So lucky in getting a seat down in the corner so we could soak up the great atmosphere. Jenny got us all set up at the table and Mary took over the service. Great explanations of the food and gave some fab recommendations. We worked our way through a good selection of oysters. Shared a bowl of chowder .. yes itโs thinner than most places but the flavour packs a punch. Moved on to fried clams and calamari.. great portions and piping hot. Itโs a small place but weโll worth the squeeze in .. Thanks ladies!!!

Great spot. We luckily walked right in and sat at the bar. We got hot lobster roll, lobster bisque and the Jonny cake app. Everything was great. Bartender made great wine recommendation and service was good.

Fabulous spot for seafood. Definitely pricey but worth the freshness of the food. Service is very good and itโs a great atmosphere. Be ready to make some friends as the itโs close quarters. Really great spot!!!!!

Best restaurant in Boston. Have the oysters and the Johnny cake!!! We had the scallops which are perfect. Great beer and wine menu also.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic oysters and service
We came before an afternoon game and we're lucky to walk in and get a seat at the crowed bar. Oysters, lobster tacos, redfish and chips and white wine and IPA were all fantastic. Friendly bartender with great recommendations was a big help as we left happy and full, Definitely will be back.

We loved the food and the atmosphere at Neptune Oyster. Everything was perfectly cooked (unless it was served raw obviously) and the service here was impeccable. Highly recommend seafood lovers check out this gem of a restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyThey set themselves for failure, especially with seafood connoisseurs.
We came to Neptune Oyster with high expectations after reading their review on Conde Nast Traveler. After two attempts of getting a table at 9.30 pm on Saturday (no line outside, but the server told us that the kitchen is closed) and then again at 9:00 pm on Sunday (we were again told by two different servers to not wait in line because we won't be served) - we said no more โ ( keep in mind the restaurant closes at 10.30 pm during weekends. We are in the industry, and we know that personnel can destroy a restaurant no matter how good the food is so after a few days, we decided to go back earlier and wait in line โ which was a first for us, but we were so curious about the hype. Having to wait for a table can be a bit of a buzzkill - after a 45-minute wait, we were offered a table outside; the chairs were the most uncomfortable cheap chairs ever, the patio itself is not a nice one, and so we asked to be seated inside. Eventually, they placed us at the bar. The restaurant is a tiny cramped room with a few tables and a bar, it's also loud. We ordered a mixed selection of oysters, two different crudos, the Johnycake, the Razor Clams appetizer, and a small bite that had uni on it (Sea urchin). The oysters were good โ but you can find the same oysters in other restaurants in New England. The Sea Scallop Crudo was good, however a bit on the salty side, the Tuna Crudo was nothing special but good quality; however, the razor clams (which is a rare find in the US) were chewy and had no taste - not sure why many chefs in US tend to always add bacon on exotic foods, maybe because of fear that customers are not as sophisticated? The Johnnycake appetizer is a large pancake soaked in sweet syrup with Smoked Bluefish, and a touch of Sturgeon Caviar โ it's different, we didn't care much for it. Conclusion: they have a good selection of oysters and wines, including wide international varieties and local beers but without sounding too difficult, there is really no need for a 45-minute wait outside the restaurant and attitudes of snotty staff. They could very well take reservations in person if OpenTable is too expensive, and get away from the cheap marketing line outside of their restaurant, as it really kills the vibe while the expectations grow, and so they kind of set themselves for failure, especially with seafood connoisseurs.

The food was excellent but the wait staff was very rude. The service was slow. We felt they were doing us a favor to even wait on us. It was an unpleasant experience.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent experience for a business lunch
. Early business lunch so we were able to get an outdoor seat, the last one, without a wait. By the time we left, there was quite a long line for lunch, so it seem to be moving at a fair pace. Outdoor waitress greeted us, was very friendly. Sat us instantly. Good service. Friendly. Food was excellent. Lobster caprice salad special was great

Horrible experience. Maids are gross and donโt know how to host. Avoid this place, there are much better options in Boston
Be the first to ReplyWorse service ever!!!!
Worse service ever, around 4pm several tables available and the waiter refused to let us seat because we were 3 people and the tables available were according to her either for 4 people or 2+2 people !!!! Never been so rudely treated! Food may be good but itโs just not worthy with such poor service
