My friend wanted to take me to a rooftop lounge during a quick visit. She made reservations on Open Table. The restaurant is located on the top 8th floor at The Loren. Valet is complimentary. What I liked about it, is you can scan the valet card before you take the elevator down, so when you get there, your vehicle is ready. You don't spend time waiting around outside. When we got seated, it was inside the dining area. We wanted outside seating for the views. They offered to put us on a waitlist for outside to maybe do dessert and after dinner drinks. It was elegant inside and quite chilly. I'm glad I brought a cardigan. My friend had a white wine, and I tried The Henry cocktail which was sweet and sour. I like that it was balanced and not just pure sugar. When we got seated on the balcony, I ordered my new go-to, a French 75. It was served in a champagne flute. It was a tad bitter at times, possibly from the lemon zest and the combination of pairing it with the pistachio crème brûlée.We started with the sugar snap peas salad with a buttermilk dill sauce and herbs like mint. It was very good, but the snap peas were sliced too small like scallions. It was difficult to pick up more than one piece with a fork. I had to use my knife to push pieces on the fork. They should make it a little bigger to spear. The mussel flatbread was delicious. I don't eat much seafood by choice, and I had never had mussels until that night, but there was so much richness in flavor of the sauce, I couldn't tell. The bread alone was good. I tried a piece with one mussel to try but mostly ate the bread.Since I had eaten the rest of my chicken biscuit from Bird Bird just before, I wanted something light. The butternut squash agnolotti was delicious with the brown butter and crispy sage. The pasta was al dente and filled with puréed squash. After dinner, they escorted us to the balcony for outside seating. We took endless photos of the Austin skyline which looks so gorgeous at night with all the lights. Half of the area was blocked off for a private event. I'm shocked that people waiting for their tables just walked out and went past the private event sign to take photos. They gave the hostess a difficult time and attitude. Y'all, it says closed. You can take photos on the first half that was open. I get that it's near the outside diners, but it's better than trespassing. Anyway, I like the black sheer curtains between the inside and outside dining for privacy. There are a few heated light lamps. It was a windy, slightly chilly night in Austin. The patio seating couches were comfortable and spacious with a long table in between. There's a small light lamp to read the menus. For dessert, we ordered the pistachio crème brûlée and Pavlova, which is vegan. I didn't taste the pistachio flavor much, but the crème brûlée was still good, and the top was caramelized well. The Pavlova with tropical fruit and coconut sorbet was tart and refreshing. We really liked that dessert the best. Service was excellent throughout. They were attentive, and a chef came out to ask us if we liked the crème brûlée. I just don't think the food portion and menu is worth the price points. It's very steep. Maybe breakfast is better? Even the mocktail was on the small side for $10. Heck, even Versace mansion in Miami had bigger mocktails with decent pricing. I think most people come here just for the view.
