Overrated
Customer service was good, despite a brief confusion with a restaurant policy. A couple of dishes were worth coming back for, but the food was overrated and overpriced in general. The ambiance had loud music, so it’s hard to hear anyone, including the description of the food.

We made reservations here two months before our trip, for my husbands 60th birthday celebration. We sat at the ‘chefs table’, right up front overlooking the kitchen. We spoke to the chef and his chef de partie, during our dinner. It was amazing! An experience we will never forget. We ordered the tomahawk steak. It was very good, but we thought a little chewy. The bone marrow appetizer was outstanding! Service was excellent! Overall, an amazing experience and we highly recommend this restaurant and would go back again.

When we first arrived I thought the restaurant was closed by the lack of street and pedestrian activity. As we entered it became very evident that a appointment was the smart thing to do. I was in awe as I noticed the full house and activity ongoing. We were met with a warm welcome and seated within ten minutes. This was the first time I had ever been offered a taste to the glass of wine I ordered at the bar. The food was prepared the same time as ordered. My Rib eye steak was excellent and the waiter was gracious and knowledgeable. Servers would explain the food order as they delivered it and we actually were given a choice of a carving knife followed by an explanation of where it was from. Too many unique pluses to mention in this review. A little pricey but worth every penny. Best experience I’ve had in a restaurant in San Francisco. Staff is commended for a great time. Will definitely be back.

This was my first time eating here. We had reservations so we were quickly seated. Not many of the staff were wearing masks. We ate family style. But I had the Washugyu Filet Mignon. All the starters and side dishes were delicious. I enjoyed the Chilled Dungeness Crab and Crispy Potatoes. My Filet Mignon did not arrive warm. The service was great—the staff helpful and kind. The atmosphere was a little loud. Our table had a great view of the grill.

3.5 hours for dinner… super long. Food overated. Buckhead house roll is very good The service is good and friendly staff. Should work on the speed.

We had an 8:30pm reservation and didn’t get sat until 9:10pm. Then, during dinner, my girlfriend order a cocktail she didn’t like which appeared on the bill. Our final bill was ~$350, so I feel NOT charging us for the drink would have been a jester of goof faith. After all, it took 40 mins for us to be seated. We will not be going back.

My sons wedding we celebrated here! Food were amazingly delicious and succulent. Tomahawk steak, A5 bushu gyu was buttery so tasty. Dessert wagyu fat brownie and panna cota was delicious.Definitely will be back to this place. Servers had to change our plates 3 times😋 very accommodating, friendly too. Their sourdough bread must try.
Be the first to ReplyCreative but pricey.
For a Michelin restaurant I'd expect a bit more from the food. I would not expect them to use heatimg lamps. Sitting at the counter to watch the chefs was fun. The A5 sampler was underimpressive as by the time I ate some of first sample and some of sides, the other piece was already cold. 600 price tag for 3 sides 2 mains and 1 appetizer. The servers were very nice. Definitely more of a wait since they grill to order.

This was such a pleasant surprise restaurant. The food was absolutely phenomenal. Not sure if they do the same menu but options were excellent. I believe they do have a Michelin start which is why I tried. MUST SIT AT COOKING BAR. You get to see the chefs create every dish right in front of you. Really such a fun experience
Be the first to ReplyMixed Thoughts on Niku’s Food; But Excellent Service.
I think I’d give Niku an average except that the servers were excellent. The food was rushed as if getting on to the next group was more important than giving us time to enjoy our food. For example, having the check arrive when I’m just starting my dessert was hurried. My favorites were the Steak Tartare and the Waygu meatball but the $250 price tag on the A5 meat sampler was unjustified. Michelin recently gave them a star but I’m not sure I’d do the same.

Rude service, especially from the manager in charge. Music too loud. Seats crammed too close together at the counter. Just not a comfortable experience.

Great to try once. Although the menu does not look that interesting (descriptions), the food is very very good. Fun to try some great Wagyu, but I preferred the tomahawk by far over the Wagyu. But appetizers and dessert was also very good. They are part of the butcher next door. Good stuff.
