Hipped servings continue
Usually you have a nicely sliced piece of chicken breast. Yet, the last few times it is a small piece of chicken with lots of strange nibbles as if from the bottom of the pot. If I’m being honest, it is all the reminders and looked like a pile of scraps. Not sure how I drew the luck twice but it does show the quality is going down. Not sure if I should go back.

We love it, though the restaurant felt a bit cramping, and the line was long, but the food was worth it!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food!
Looked up places to eat in Portland and this came up so I decided to give it a try. Was not disappointed, ordered Khao Man Gai and sat down. Within 5 minutes the food was out and flavor is amazing. I've been to many restaurants in Boston, NYC and Philadelphia that are similar in style serving limited menu items but are amazing. This was up there with those restaurants, the dipping sauce they give is perfect and the choice between white and dark meat is a great touch. Rice and soup it came with were great, the simplicity of the dish and the flavor it gives you is worth the visit. I would come back here when back in Portland again.

I added Nong's to my list of places to check out while visiting Portland because 1. I saw it on multiple travel sites 2. My sister had tried it a few years back and said it was really good. We popped in on a Saturday at around 3 pm and it was still pretty packed at that time, especially for a non-peak lunch hour. We ordered the original Khao Man Gai (regular size) to share between me and my husband. It comes wrapped in a paper with size of broth and their dipping sauce. It was pretty good, especially the sauce but was it $13 good? That I don't know. It's also something you need to eat right away because it comes out piping hot. If you eat it later, the steam would probably overcook the chicken. Glad I got the chance to try it but also glad we only got one order.

The number 1 (chicken and rice) was phenomenal for a quick pick me up lunch!! Outdoor seating and easy to get to from all parts of the city
Be the first to ReplyBasic but Great
Extremely basic but delicious food. The chicken was like a succulent rotisserie chicken but without the skin. Whatever their house sauce is, is delicious. They wrap the chicken in paper with some sticky rice. Tastes like a really good street car meal.

We were only in Portland for 2 days and had this twice - so yummy! We had the KMG regular size and had the large portion when we went back the second time. Also bought 2 bottles of their delicious sauce to bring home!

I wasn't sure why it was so busy. The poached chicken was very tender but for the sauce it was pretty bland. The seating is overly tight.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing and authentic
Chicken and rice sounds so basic but it is so good here. The preparation and the sauce elevate it to out of this world levels. I've had it in Thailand and this is the only place I've found it in the U.S. You can buy the sauce to take home. I'd go here weekly if I lived in Portland.

I really don’t understand what the fuss is about this place. It’s not bad but it’s just bland chicken over bland rice which were both kinda dry. The best part was the sauce but that doesn’t make everything else magical. Maybe because this was nowhere close to the ones we had in Singapore which was sooooo good. The chicken was so tender that it literally melt in your mouth. Rice was so flavorful in chicken broth and oil. In Singapore the sauce was soy sauce based. If you are into this dish, go to Singapore! It’s really life changing. Even the ones in New York at Nyonya is much better.
