Food Disappointing
We had passed Olivia's on the Plaza (they've since moved) a number of times. We usually go out to eat on weekends. But they're closed so we made a special point of eating lunch there on a weekday. We got a chicken Navajo Taco. Not good. The Navajo bread was good. As was the lettuce (duh). But the chicken and beans weren't. The chicken was shredded and very dry with no spices at all. Like none. The beans were equally unspiced. I don't get it. With all the wonderful southwestern spices serving a Mexican dish that has so few spices is tragic. Seating outside was nice. The server was pleasant. Not very engaging nor attentive (may have been too busy). Not sure we'll be back.
Be the first to ReplyA very nice break from hotel continental breakfasts
Take note, this is their brand new location. We had breakfast there today (8/14/22) and it was their second day of operation in this new location. Prior to this, they were in a much smaller location on the plaza in Las Vegas, NM. It was a bit of a treat to have a real breakfast after the various continental breakfasts we have had over the last week on this trip. The co-owner, David (who is Olivia’s brother) greeted us and we enjoyed speaking with him. We were probably their first breakfast customers as we walked in the door just after 7:00 am. Their new space is clean and inviting and I ordered their corned beef breakfast and my wife had bacon, eggs and hash browns and we both had a banana. They also had good coffee. As we ate, a fairly steady stream of customers came in, most of whom appeared to be local. Not surprising as they don’t even have had time to put up a sign but a testament to a loyal following. The restaurant is attached to the Travelodge (formerly a Knights Inn) on Grande Avenue. If you are looking for a good place to eat in Las Vegas, I can definitely recommend Olivia’s Cafe. Just look for the Travelodge motel sign.

Stopped in for a quick bite on the 13th. The green chili, chili rellenos, and sopapillas were delicious. The young gentleman who waited on us would extremely helpful and personable. We hope to return!

We ducked in for a quick bite and were more than satisfied with the food, coffee, and service.
They offered fancy coffee blends (hot and cold), a delicious breakfast menu, and a very friendly staff. Most of their customer base appears to be take out which make sense since they are on the square, but they also offer seating.
I highly recommend this stop when you are passing through Las Vegas.
The best chili relleno in years if not decades
OMG. I thought $13 for the chili rellenos plate was expensive. But after we were served the two huge rellenos and ate one each with the ample portions of real beans and delicious rice we we both stuffed. So this lunch for two actually turned out to be a bargain.
To me, the hallmark dish for Mexican food is the chili relleno. The cook on it here was absolutely perfect. It was lightly battered and fried to a gentle crisp on the outside. That is hard to do since not very many can accomplish it. The chili itself had enough crunch that I had to ask if it was fresh. (It was not and I did not expect so since it is not chili season.) The cheese on the inside was perfect.
My kudos go to Olivia herself who is the cook here. The other lady cashier/waitperson was engaging and congenial. Sitting outside with the plaza around was delightful.
The three white guys at another table said that this was the least expensive Mexican food in town. I wish that I lived near here so that I could try Olivia's other dishes.
WARNING! The City of Las Vegas has installed some vicious speed bumps on the streets that go to the Plaza. They are unsigned and largely unmarked since the paint has worn off. Shame on them for mistreating their tourists that are trying to support the community.
Great food
Absolutely delicious breakfast! I had eggs, sausage, red chili sauce and cheese in a bowl, my husband had chorizo, eggs, red chili sauce and cheese in a bowl. A hole-the-wall place with nice seating outside and friendly staff. They make your food when you order it.

The food here is delicious. During the pandemic they have managed to continue the take-out business. Yes, sometimes it might be a bit hard to get through on the phone line but that is because they service so many people. The staff are friendly and courteous and Olivia herself is a great cook.
Be the first to ReplyGood but not great
Olivia's Cafe is a very small restaurant in the historic Plaza of Las Vegas. Olivia's has some of the best breakfast burritos in town, when everything is going right. Unfortunately, they don't appear to have a system in place for their morning orders so the customer is required to call back repeatedly to get through a busy signal. Their delivery service at best is inconsistent, and at it's worst takes over an hour. If everything is running smoothly your food will arrive just as ordered. If it isn't, your food may arrive cold, soggy, slimy, and smelling of marijuana.

Had breakfast burritos and coffee (take out) this morning and it was delicious. They are doing a good business in the face of covid restrictions, so says a lot about their food. Will definitely eat here whenever we're in town!

Olivia opened her own place after her grandmother's business, MaryAnn's, closed. We've had several of the luch burritos (chunky pork, carne adovado, steak, taco and especially love the Corn Beef w/hash. Very reasonable prices ($4-$4.25) and they are so good.

We stayed in Las Vegas two days and ate our breakfasts here. They customize your order, we loved that. Great red sauce. Friendly folks with lots of real cowboys eating there both days, spurs included, so it must be good. Lots of little ball players too. One had a bowl of chili for breakfast. I love this country.
Be the first to ReplySuper nice staff and very good local New Mexico cuisine
This is a cute little family-owned restaurant on the plaza that has a friendly staff and warm ambiance. The Huevos Rancheros were excellent. Service was fast and the location is ideal. Recommended.
