Great experience
I went here with a friend as part of the private dining club. It was great service from start to finish. The bartenders were great and cocktails well made. The servers were knowledgeable of the menu and gave great suggestions. We both liked everything we ordered, especially the muscles. Will return soon!

There are over 9,000 restaurants in New York City. You don't need to go to Omar's. For some reason, they play disco music with an annoying constant drumbeat in the background. Not dinner music. The crowd is very loud. The food is mediocre and the kitchen made more than one mistake. The gelato portion was the smallest imaginable. I won't go back. I was celebrating a birthday. Instead, I get to write a less than favorable review. The wine was good.
Be the first to ReplyYou Pay for Ambiance and Food; Not for Service
Omar's La Ranita is both a restaurant AND a private dining club (where you pay an annual fee in the thousands for access to the establishment and certain "benefits" listed on their website.) Their branding and design sell their product - luxury elitist dining -
insanely well. Where the product suffers is staff etiquette and customer service.
PROS: Gorgeous ambiance; hidden; quiet; feels exclusive and intimate; private dining rooms for large groups; plays up the "private dining club" feel
CONS: Some, but not all, staff members were needlessly pretentious, if not outright rude; the menu is very good, but cost to value ratio is negotiable. Is it really a bar/pub? Not really. Is the food Mediterranean? Not really. Oh - and check the bill at the end of the night. The feeling was that they were more interested in making money, than actually curating a fabulous dining experience for the guests.
OVERALL: If you are looking to spend over $1000/year on a private dining club and want a quiet place to hide from the world, this is your place. But if you want generous customer service, and to feel like this is your "home away from home" you would be better off putting the money towards being a regular at any of the fantastic restaurants nearby or at any of the luxurious hotel bars that abound in New York City. This place would do well to remember that visual ambiance is not a substitute for efficiency and basic decency with customers.
Birthday Dinner
My Uncle is a member of this private dining club and met me there for my birthday dinner. There was a special menu that we ordered off of. I had The Gatsby for my cocktail and it was very strong. I ordered a second one for my meal. For dinner, I had the coffee-rubbed short rib over creamy polenta. The coffee taste through me off but the meal was delicious. I donโt think I would go back only because I donโt live in NYC and there are a ton of other restaurants that I want to try!
Be the first to ReplyMore for the Vibe, Not for the Food
This restaurant is more of a social club that happens to serve food. Very dark decor with a Studio 54 vibe (given all the disco music that night). It's fun but the food is an afterthought. Serviceable ahi tartare, small pork chop, and OK chicken. Dessert was fine. This place is more about socializing with friends and being seen. Hard to see and tell what happens in all the dark corners. You catch my drift?

Yeah, it's a bit of a scene late night, but it has great dรฉcor, several interesting rooms, plenty of good people to watch and a great bar and bartenders. Food is pretty good, better than you'd expect from a hot spot, and some of it is actually very good. Prices are a bit high, but you don't feel ripped off at all. Good staff, great owner who works the room. All in all, a great place for a few drinks and then slide into dinner. And then maybe a few more drinks....
