This is a very pleasant restaurant / bar / grill, tucked away in Dalston suburbia down Shacklewell Lane, near to Shacklewell Green. It’s not a huge dining space, and is very popular, so reservations are essential. We booked well in advance and could only secure a spot at the bar! That was fine though we had a fairly narrow dining time frame. The restaurant describes itself as serving ‘Mediterranean inspired sharing plates’; I perceived the dishes to be more of Middle Eastern origin, and particularly Israeli, rather than the traditional Mediterranean fare I know. The restaurant has a comfortable and relaxed ambiance, and our corner spot at the bar was comfortable and thankfully a little removed from the hustle and bustle of the busy bar activities. The food is served ‘tapas style’ - small sharing plates drawn from four broad menu selections, namely vegetables, fish, meat, and desserts, with five or six choices in each section. Many dishes are prepared on a grill. For the main part of our meal we chose five sharing plates between two diners, on the suggestion of the waitress that that was probably ample. The plates we chose were: the Fig Carpaccio with toasted almonds and coriander; the Courgettes with yoghurt, the Hispi Cabbage, the Jerusalem Mix Grill, and the Lamb and Beef Arayes. The servings weren’t huge, and ranged in price from £8.00 to £11.00. All were really fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented except for the Ayares which was over-grilled and a little on the burnt side. Our desserts were the Pear Fool (£8.00) and the Fig Cake (£7.00). Both were exceptional. Our bill, with three glasses of wine, was almost £110.00, so not cheap dining by any means. Service was friendly and cheerful, without being overbearing or intrusive. The restaurant has outside seating on the pavement. It’s at ground level and should be accessible to those requiring mobility assistance. It’s about a 15 minute walk from Dalston Junction Overground station. It’s a good addition to the relatively lack-lustre dining scene in Dalston, and one we would definitely return to.
