Came here on a date.
It's a smaller place so more intimate. My date had been one other time before and knew our server from his prior visit. I had to figure out what I wanted but found something I liked and later had to get out of my apartment since I was threatened later that same night. Since I moved from this area and am not feeling comfortable being back there I probably wouldn't return in the foreseeable future but if you're in the area and like Mexican food with a kick you should check this place out.

Great service and Really Great drinks, came for a lowkey dinner and enjoyed the tacos. Would def go again
Be the first to ReplyWasn't impressed by this spot.
The tacos were a little lack luster. The spicy margarita cocktails were good, but that's about it. I guess good for drinks, but idk if I'd be back for tacos.
Be the first to ReplyLoved it great hidden gem, tacos were delicious and filling.
Drinks we're great as well. enjoyed the time there and will go back and tey some different food and drink

The quesadilla was inedible - a lump of cheese on bread and not high quality cheese with 4 shrimp. Tacos also tasted like it was thrown out of the kitchen - compared to previous orders, this was poorly done. Guacamole was the only edible part of the order. Maybe the trick is not to order on Saturday night?
Be the first to ReplyThis was my first visit to Oso and I had a great time .
The ambiance is calming , great bartender and wait staff. Definitely order their beef tacos and shrimp quesadilla! The margaritas were made fresh, and the quality really came through on flavor .

Came here because I was looking for a happy hour and Mexican food in Harlem. Ordered the birria tacos which were SPECTACULAR! However, the happy hour was incredible disappointing as far as price is concerned. It's only a 3 dollar discount from the original price so a drink is still 11 dollars. The spicy margarita was good but was hoping for a more affordable happy hour. I was the most impressed by the dessert. We ordered the horchata Ice cream and it truly tasted like an horchata. Would come here again for the food but would steer clear of the "happy hour"

Was looking for some Mexican food and decided to make the trek to Harlem and give Oso a try. This place is a little bit pricier than I would have expected for Mexican food, but the food was pretty good.Guac and Tortilla chips (3/5) - Nothing too amazing from the standard guac and chipsAl pastor tacos with consume - (5/5) Tons of flavor and would definitely get this againPescado Tacos (4/5) - Pretty decent tacos, but I guess I became partial to the al pastor
Be the first to ReplyFirst timer.
Ordered the guac & Al pastor tacos with a side of rice & beans. I was worried about the portion size but my appetite was satiated. Totally forgot about dessert so I gotta go back and try the churros.

Cool intimate space, hip attentive staff, perfectly balanced Margaritas, ideal birria tacos con consommรฉ with that compelling gout de terroir undertone, complex winter salad and fine salsas & chips add up to A+ cocina mexicana.

Placed a huge takeout order with this spot when I was craving Mexican food. This place is definitely a slightly more elevated spot but still casual (though definitely a bit pricier too). My order came very well packaged with a side of taqueria style chips. 1) Complimentary chips and salsa: The chips are so tasty. An oily browned flavor but without the actual oil coating the chip with a hefty snap. The salsa isn't too seasoned but has a pleasant low slow burn. (4.5/5)2) Blue Corn Quesadilla: The blue corn tortilla doesn't seem as pliable as a regular corn tortilla. It had more of a bite but I really enjoyed the slightly sweet flavor of it against the salty Chihuahua cheese. The roasted corn was an especially amazing addition. The browning on the corn really stands out and brings this dish to another level. Only downside is even a quarter of a piece can be pretty hefty. It's a small plate that just comes with 2 pieces but as an appetizer I could see this feeding 2-4 (if you just wanted a smaller tasting). It comes with a side of pico de gallo and sour cream. (4/5)3) Tamales Verdes: The braised chicken looked a little dry and flavorless and by itself it's a very standard tamale. But the serrano salsa is so tasty. It's herby with a slight heat and while the acidity isn't upfront, it brings out all the flavors of the tamales so well. Still a bit pricey for 2 tamales but I can never resist a tamale (3.75/5)4) Ceviche: This was such an interesting ceviche. The seafood was cut pieces of shrimp. I'm not sure if they par-cooked them at all beforehand but each piece was practically creamy. I usually don't like shrimp ceviche as much but they did a wonderful job with it. The kumquat was an especially unique angle since the sweet aromatic citrus just offers another dimension to the dish. I did find it a bit too sweet though since they seem to mix some marinated pieces of kumquat in there along with some candied pieces. The actual marinade is quite sweet too. The tiny cilantro garnish really helped steer this back into a more savory dish and I think a bit more of that would help a ton. (4/5)5) Birria Taco: I honestly thought they forgot the consomme but apparently you need to add 3 dollars for it and that's just a bit sad. It just doesn't quite feel like a birria taco without it. The tortilla is soaked in the beef fat but it still doesn't encompass the fullness of the stew itself. The meat however is delicious with lots of browned bits breaming with meaty flavor. The pickled onions weren't quite acidic enough for me personally but the dish definitely needed them. (3.5/5)Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Oso. Each dish had something a bit off that did bother me but as a whole the flavors were good and everything was very well prepared. I will definitely be ordering from here again if I want a slightly more done up Mexican meal.

Absolutely love this place! I definitely underestimated them! The guava drink is a must!
Be the first to ReplyReally love this place but last Saturday night 2/26.
..we made reservations and showed up on time. ย They kept us waiting 30 minutes for a table and sat others before us. ย Gotta ask yourself who was in charge and why don't they know how to run a restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyGood food and drinks but the energy from staff is not it.
Not very welcoming at all.
Be the first to ReplyHad a night out with a friend.
It was during happy hour. We bought a margarita and I got the pescado tacos.Tacos and margarita were great.

Shrimp quesadilla, ceviche, guac, and churros were delicious! Size-wise, quesadilla is the best bang for your buck. They put plenty of shrimp and the portion size is very filling. Ceviche had a strong kumquat taste and was served with a very citrus-y acidic marinade. I loved this but don't order if you're not a huge citrus fan! Food is great but portions tend to be on the smaller side (tapas style) hence 4 stars instead of 5. Ambiance is great as well.

What a fantastic place! It's just around the corner from my apartment, but it's so unassuming I've just walked right past it. I'm so glad I stopped in tonight. Really good chips and guacamole, as many have said. But also the most incredible salad with cubes of butternut squash and candied walnuts and the most aromatic greens I've ever tasted. It was really incredible. And then two fish tacos with a nice, warm sauce that added just the right amount of heat and fried red onion (I think) on top. It was such a delicious meal with terrific service and a really nice atmosphere. I will definitely go back. And back. And back.
Be the first to ReplyOso is a lovely little find on Amsterdam Avenue in Harlem.
Menu has traditional Mexican fare but they put a little spin on it making it tastier. Happier hour until 7 and margaritas are good. The spicy one is VERY spicy. ย A lovely waiter explained it all with a smile. Most importantly, don't miss the churros with chocolate and caramel sauce! Yum. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food!!! I enjoy dinning in and take out here.
Pretty much everything on the menu is delicious. And if something happens with a take out order they make sure to call you to let you know ahead of time.

It has been a while since I felt compelled to write a review, but I feel most obliged to extend my sincerest compliments to this establishment. ย It was so lovely to be able to sit and enjoy the delightful food and ambience on a crisp Autumn day. ย The staff were most hospitable, the food a work of art.

This is such a cute spot! I think it's a great date spot with a partner but I went alone (and have ordered take out from here too!). Walking on Amsterdam Ave. you might miss it, it's a low key spot, intimate with dim lighting. I had an order of the mushroom tacos and added an order of the cauliflower tacos. The mushroom tacos were so good!! I would have ordered a second round but they only had enough to make one order. The mushrooms are very well seasoned, cooked nicely and the pineapple slices were a nice touch. I was not impressed with the cauliflower tacos though, definitely wouldn't recommend. Was also no impressed with their rice and beans. Lacked flavor and not a fan of the texture.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite spots in the area.
Great margs, solid service, and yummy guacamole!
