Ostra Boston Reviews from The Last Year
Ate here again, 7 years later.
What an Excellent dinner. Not cheap by any means, but service was top notch and the food/wine/cocktails were all delicious. I would not be surprised if this place is handed a Michelin star in the future. Go here for a special occasion - you will not be disappointed.
Very good food and the staff is friendly.
The steak I had was great and the special scallop dish was good too. The paella's was good and had everything that a good paella should have but just a little salty.
The service was incredible.
It was like we had one waiter assigned just to our table. He was always there when we needed him. We had the twin lobsters which we served in a hot pot. They were completely shelled so we never had to touch a cracker. The gave us two types of butter; one was seasoned while the other was just melted. The ambiance of the restaurant was top notch. If I ever had the chance, I would return without thinking twice. This was a place to keep in mind if I ever return to Boston.
The restaurant would be five stars if it wasn't for a bit
The restaurant would be five stars if it wasn't for a bit of confusion with the wait staff. There were almost too many people waiting on our table, and it cost confusion as to what we had already ordered. The restaurant was extremely modern. Everything was white and marble, the most notable dish for me was the monkfish, which was extremely flaky and cooked perfectly.
Oysters - accruements were excellent.
Oysters were good but not enough brine for my taste. Caviar was good. Again, the accruments/sides were excellent. Linguini bolognese was average. Paella - fish cooked perfectly and the seasonings were spot on. However, it was a tad dry from being overcooked as the sauce was a little burned on the sides of the pans. Wine was excellent. Although food was very good, this is lime fast food fine dining. The uptempo music is bordering like being at a casino and the staff rush everything with two of my dishes almost being thrown on the table. They just seem like they want you in and out fast so they can keep turning tables which takes away from the dining experience.
The food and service here was wonderful, but the ambiance
The food and service here was wonderful, but the ambiance was just ok. Busy, but very quiet. Not sure I would go back.
What an experience.
.. excellent service, taste, preparation and vibe! This place is a winner! Lovely wine list to boot...
It has been years since we've been here - always remember
It has been years since we've been here - always remember it as over the top food. Not so much last night unfortunately. Service and ambiance were great - felt like a nice fancy night out. The food was lacking. My wife had the monkfish saddle. Too big, too much butter, too much salt - couldn't taste the fish. I had the paella. I was excited for all the listed seafood. When it arrived it was dry - had clearly been cooked a while ago and sat under a heat lamp. The seafood (mussels, clams, calamari, lobster) was pretty dried out and chewy - the calamari in particular - like rubber. The rice base was also pretty dry. Two appetizers (just OK), two drinks each, and the mains above plus tip was $350. Yikes. We won't be back unfortunately.
Ostra has become our "special occasion" restaurant.
It feels luxurious without being stuffy. I've never had anything less than outstanding off their menu. The fried oysters with cornichon remoulade is perfectly crispy, buttery, and flavorful. There's something subtly elegant about receiving your martini in the shaker (plus you end up with extra!) The staff goes above and beyond to make the dining experience enjoyable, without being intrusive. The decor and chandeliers are GORGEOUS. It's one of the few QUIET restaurants left; you forget how nice it is to not have to raise your voice to have a convo.
Very well cooked salmon and appetizers.
Mixed drinks were amazing but over priced. Nice atmosphere and music
$58 Entrees with a Disco Beat -- Ya Want Sound Cancelling Headphones with Your Fries?
Being in Boston, why not seafood? And if seafood, why not one that purports to be high end? Well, not here. There was so little to like about this place. Sorry to be so negative, but really...start with the room. It feels like the shell of what was meant to be a lobby bank but they changed their mind. So they put a few (alleged) artworks on the walls -- sort of artworks anyway, and then the decorator called it a day. If you like that company cafeteria look with white tablecloths, this is your kind of place. It wasn't ours. We're from New York. We know what expensive is. But these were not mere Upper East Side prices. These were Upper Upper East Side prices. True, some entrees were in the high $40s, but expect more like high $50s. And even then if its great, why not? But this place is far from great. My wife's salmon was ok, meaning for $30, ok. But not $46 ok. And my paella was very good. At $58, it should be great, I mean great, not very good. But all of this was submerged in the disco beat -- that thump thump thump that vibrates your heart at a dance club. But for dinner? Ugh. Loud. Thump thump thump. Totally incongruous. It made us wonder what "concept" this place was meant to be. Oh, forgot to mention the service. It was diner efficient: the guy shows up, drops something on the table and before you can say "may we have butter" he's gone. There was no one -- no one -- watching the room. You could raise your hand for service but it was more like "if you raise your arm and no one sees it, did you really raise your arm"? So to summarize -- if very large sterile rooms with 30' ceilings, loud disco music, poor service and ok overpriced food is your thing, reserve now! PS -- one good thing to day though, to be fair. The "snow egg" dessert was sublime. And only $17!
A step up from your Boston seafood places
Ostra is a jewel within Boston’s dining community. Impeccable service, and outstanding gourmet seafood. Flavorful dishes perfectly cooked & served!
Great!
We’ve been several times at Ostra. Never disappoints. Lobster is delicious, fish is delicious, meat dishes are equally good. Great service and impressive wine list. Very nice sea themed decor.
Speechless
The food and the service was absolutely spectacular. Frankly I’m speechless. It’s amazing how many restaurants can’t serve food hot, even the real good ones. Their attention to the most minute details was unparalleled. This is a must visit.
A gem in Boston
A culinary delight that's sure to make your visit memorable. Their seafood dishes are fantastic, the atmosphere is elegant, and the service is top-notch. If you want an unforgettable dining experience in Boston, Ostra is the place to go. It's a testament to the city's thriving food scene and a must-visit for food lovers!!
Stunning Boston restaurant.
Beautiful setting in a large room with high ceilings. Chefs obviously have a tight control on the quality of their food and deservedly so. Food is beautifully prepared with emphasis on fish and shellfish. Service from the waiters is excellent and attentive. We found it hard to find fault with this very professional establishment..... will return on our next visit to Boston.
Worth the splurge
The dining experience at this establishment is truly exceptional. The food and drinks served here are nothing short of amazing. If you're looking for a delightful appetizer, the Calamari is an absolute must-try, boasting flavors that will tantalize your taste buds. One of the standout features of this restaurant is its fantastic location in Boston. It's perfectly situated for a meal right before or after attending a show. This convenience adds to the overall appeal, making it an ideal choice for a memorable dining experience in the city.
One of Boston’s best
Atmosphere and service was awesome! We were celebrating our 17 yr anniversary and so happy we chose Oestra for our special day! We loved the food it was phenomenal. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Boston!
A fantastic dinner!
First time here and we’ll certainly come back soon! The ambiance is superb, I highly recommend this restaurant, the food was amazing and the service was fantastic. Special thanks to Diana. She was extremely kind to us and the desert she recommended was a great conclusion!
Scandalously overrated.
Skimpy portions at inflated prices. Would you pay $13 for a bottle of water or $32 for a teacup-sized bowl of pasta? All delivered with cold dismissive service. They greet you warmly at the door- don’t be fooled like we were.

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
