excellent food and service
We liked this Persian restaurant very much both for ambience and food. The tables were adequately spread out and we were there for late lunch so not noisy. Outstanding main courses -- one dark meat chicken kabob and other rock cornish hen cut up and cooked on skewer. You have choice of several types of rice so I got barberry and my companion got fava bean. Big portions. Really tasty meal. We also had yogurt/cucumber/mint appetizer. All in all, a fine dining experience.

Perhaps our first clue to the quality of this restaurant should have been that we were the only couple at the restaurant (only one more couple came while we were eating). The waitress was aloof and had absolutely no interest apart from flopping a menu in front of us and taking our order. She never came back once to inquire how we are enjoying the meal in spite of the fact that we were the only diners (we sat outside, she spent all her time inside). The food was barely edible. Both the chicken and the beef stew were so sweet that they were nauseating. This was the worst meal I had at a Persian restaurant by far.

I don't generally eat on the UES but needed a place for a family event. I chose Persepolis based on its menu and it was great decision. Wonderful, somewhat exotic Persian and other Mediterranean food, attentive service, and a very pleasant, quiet ambience. The owner checks in on tables and makes everyone feel welcome. Elegant but warm, and not expensive for what you get.

Had an excellent dinner tonite. The saffron chicken was great as was the lamb shank. Small wine selection but the Malbec we had was very good. The baklava and cotton candy desserts were very good as well.

I enjoyed a very tasty dinner at Persepolis and appreciated the friendly, attentive service. I thought the prices quite reasonable. Be prepared for incredible aromas!

The food was very good. Also, because of the pandemic the tables were nicely spaced which made for a more pleasant dining experience. Will return.
Be the first to ReplyStill my favorite restaurant in NYC
I have been coming to Persepolis with my wife and family for about 30 years, and it has been my favorite restaurant in NYC. I took a pause from coming into NYC from NJ during the height of the pandemic, but have since stopped in for lunch twice. The food and service continue to be excellent and it is still my favorite restaurant in NYC. Favorite dishes include: Gormeh Sabzi (green, savory stew with tender beef and kidney beans), served over white basmati rice), Gehmeh (tomato-based beef stew over rice with split yellow peas and dried limes), and the kubideh kebab (ground beef kebab cooked on a sword - always juicy and flavorful)

Persepolis is a wonderful destination. We found this place perusing maps and reviews and couldn't of been happier. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. If it wasn't for the sudden thunderstorm, we would have lingered even longer. Thank you for a memorable evening to the wait staff at Persepolis. We will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyBasmati Rice with Sour Cherries - Yum!
Really looking forward to trying Persian food! Pretty with a relaxed atmosphere - and with that be prepared to spend a few more dollars (but not an unreasonable amount.) The eggplant mirza appetizer was just ok. We decided on the entree Persepolis because it had 3 of the meat entrees - Saffron chicken, sirloin barg, and ground beef kubideh. The sirloin and beef were excellent, however disappointed in the saffron chicken because I love saffron and it was a little dry. The basmati rice with sour cherries was delicious and would love to return just for that! Appreciated the nice relaxed atmosphere - will return!

Nice atmosphere. Great service and we loved the food. The stew with pomegranate and walnuts was so incredible! I highly recommend! Standard good tabbouleh. Tasty original rice choices (to a Coloradoan anyway). Baklava for dessert, my one criticism,I was suspicious it was made with corn syrup instead of honey, I honestly couldnโt taste the honey which was disappointing but it was sweet and flaky and crunchy, in all other ways as baklava should be. Iโd go back for that stew again in a heartbeat!

I had four small lamb rib chops. ย Excellent. ย My business partner loved the pomegranate chicken stew. There are 3 different types of persian rice, and all were amazing flavours. ย Recommend the trio of eggplant appetizer. ย We will definitely be back again! ย Highly recommend.

Being fans of Persian food we have visited Persian restaurants in many cities/countries. Persepolis is the worst Persian restaurant by far. The decor and lighting are nice, the service is mediocre and the food is plain awful.
Be the first to ReplyLovely business dinner
Was at Persepolis for a business dinner and it was wonderful. The food the service, the ambiance was all as expected from a Persian restaurant.
We were late getting to our dinner due to a torrential downpour of rain. I called to advise the restaurant and they ended up holding our table, no issues for at least 30 - 45 minutes past the reservation time. We were sited at a long comfortable table with plenty of room in between.
The menu was large but after talking to the head waiter, we decided that the chef will just put together an assortment of dishes ranging from appetizer to entrees for us to enjoy. Everything was wonderful, fresh and tasty. They even brought us complimentary desserts.
Very Good But Noisy
We visited for the first time on a Saturday night. The noise level for the first 45 minutes or so made it very hard to talk across the table. It did get quieter after 9 PM.
The service was attentive.
The food very good. The best dish we had was the Fesenjoon stew--very tasty. Two of us had Baby Lamb Barg which was good but the outstanding part of the dish was the basmati rice with sour cherries.
The drinks were also very good.
In love!
I had never tried Persian food before and I really loved the combination with sweet and sour. Saffron and cinnamon everywhere! Yoghurt with beet.. i want ro try at home! am not giving 5 stars as I was not really hungry and could not enjoy much food but i will definitely try again.
