Petersham Nurseries Café Richmond Reviews from The Last Year
Good food
Was a hot day, super long queue and slow service... that aside, food was good, a couple of dishes had run out... amazing french cider, worth another try
Too pricey
Visited this beautiful venue for dinner with a number of friends. The setting is pleasing and service good, but food is not up to the expectation and only a set menu eat £100 plus service charge which makes it pricey for what you get. Portions are small. A member of our group had lamb for the main course and was simply dire! Could not be eastern, but due to the presence of others, as it would have been embarrassing, we did not compline. A great shame as the place is fab.
So disappointing!
Vastly overpriced for very disappointing meal! Special birthday lunch with my daughter, undercooked pasta for first course with second course of monkfish with greens so over salted inedible ruining the taste of the fish. £155 for two not including any drinks! Complaint met with “No other complaints so no concern over food” Such a beautiful venue but Never again!
Nightmare parking
Parking was a nightmare! Apparently car park was “full” and it was suggested that we went to Ham house, also full! We nearly went home… Wine list was disproportionally expensive. Food was good, service excellent
Spot on lunch
We decided rather spontaneously to take lunch at the Teahouse restaurant and the welcome was extremely friendly and accommodating. Our choice of potato and mackerel salad together with the asparagus and leek frittata was delicious.. The service was superb and we thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and buzz of the glasshouse. Would definitely recommend!
It was ok.
Hmmmm. It was £100 for their set menu which was mandatory. I hate being ’told’ what I can have; but after requesting a deviation it was accommodated just a bit of a faff! The food was mediocre at best. I didn’t like the pudding at all. You have to go outside for the bathroom. Would I go again? - probably not. However the waitress was very sweet. Sorry but I was expecting something special.
Great ambiance and fantastic service!
Beautiful setting, great service and nice presentations of the dining options. We had dinner with a couple of friends from the area and it was quite good. The service was terrific, the atmosphere was dreamlike with beautiful plants and flowers all around, a truly unique dining experience! We started with some cocktails and appetizers...crudo seafood (ceviche like), tagliolini with a fresh tomato sauce and provolone...both delicious! Then the mains of seafood stew (clams, mussels, flaky white fish filet in a boldly flavored broth) and beef (somewhat average), and some vegetable sides. Flavorful, served hot and we all enjoyed our choices. Then a round of desserts, all very good! We had a great time! But it was overpriced at 100 £ per person plus drinks, wine and service...the total came to nearly 700 £ for the four of us.
Sad demise of once great leader
As authentically charming the environment and interior continues to be with equally welcoming service staff, the food has unfortunately become a huge disappointment of the highest order. Anchovy dip for crudités dinner as overly constituted from garlic. Steak was small and 25pc fat and lonely in the plate. Dessert was simplistic bar it’s apparently edible flowers which cattle would have trouble consuming (visually beautiful- looked like wild berries). A triumph of style over gastronomy! Awful communications policy as well: zero empathy for cancellations due to sickness- you will be charged £45 per head. I dined on my own! A sad demise of a once unique and very satisfying dining experience
Disappointed
I'd like to start by saying I love Petersham Nurseries, it is very beautiful and always a treat to see wonderful displays of flowers and artistically arranged plants in interesting containers. I have eaten in the main cafe before- but on this occasion I was very disappointed. We were served some bread and olive oil, which was not very nice - I think we all know the pleasure of eating delicious freshly baked bread! I chose Monkfish and my partner had beef - we added some side dishes too - the overall effect was underwhelming and average. The spring Greens were unpleasant to eat, as they had a watery and stringy texture and little flavor. The potatoes were tasty- but had no crunch even though they were described as roasted. The Wine was lovely and the desserts, were nice but not special. As a competent home cook- I always think about the overall balance of a meal- which I really feel the chef did not (on this occasion) as everything I had on both courses lacked contrasting textures and complimentary flavours. The price of the meal did not in my opinion match my reasonable expectations of imaginative and exciting cookery.
beautiful place
Exceptional restaurant, very beautiful location, everything very well looked after and with extremely attentive and helpful staff. Really quality food. A wonderful experience at prices appropriate to the level
I'll admit, hiking out to Richmond for tea wasn't my plan
I'll admit, hiking out to Richmond for tea wasn't my plan originally, but the place had gotten such good reviews, and there wasn't really tea to be had on such short notice in the city, so I was happy to head out there. Had a delightful afternoon tea with friends outside. They even spotted some deer on the path nearby on their way! :-) Prices are reasonable, though you'll be hit with the standard-in-London 12.5% service charge, even though they label it as "discretionary" :-)
Still my favourite restaurant in London.
Iona was fantastic as our server last week. Can't wait to return!

I can’t find restaurants with high performance or like what’s the most popular restaurant or what is in short supply? Any advice?

The main page will typically show you restaurants rankings based on city. I am new too and its been mostly guess work and trying the ones that are high ranking. I right now am sticking to top 10's but still waiting to hit that first sale.
