Phoenix Restaurant Chicago Reviews from The Last Year

Food is ok, the food temperature are warm, food are not taste. Wait so long to check out
First time here with my girlfriend and her parents.
I gotta give this place 5-stars. I am not Chinese so can't comment on whether this is authentic Cantonese dishes - but they're from HK so I'll take their word for it! The portions here are large - we ordered the pepper steak (very very... like very tender), tofu mushrooms with Chinese peapods (amazing and almost my favorite), salt and pepper fish (crispy fried and not fishy), and scallops with noodles (amazing and my favorite). It was way more than enough and we took the rest to go. The food comes out pretty fast and I like that there are plenty of accommodations for large groups and tables for two. Last piece of advice and perhaps most important - validate parking in the lot nearby off of Wentworth. Pretty much all the stores validate including Phoenix and it's just $2!
Below average dim sum for above average price.
Price $32 | Rating 6/10 5 people at 11:30 with no wait. Seated in a spacious table and given the usual sauces, tea, and menu. Their selection was bigger than normal with things like duck dumplings and corn shrimp dumplings. The quality was disappointing. The har gow and crepes were over steamed and stuck together. The scallion pancake was more a bao and not crispy but the taste was still good. The veggies were fine and everything else was okay. Nothing special stood out. Paid in cash for discount and cost was 32 so for not being 100% full I was a bit let down. I would recommend other places but it wasn't terrible in case your friends insist.
Chicago should be very proud of its Chinatown.
It rivals San Francisco's and New York's, and that's saying a tidy sum. On this 60° Sunday night, in Chicago in February, Chinatown was so jammed packed and congested you would think they were giving away free dinners! Wow was this district buzzing. The four of us chose The Phoenix restaurant as our dinner spot only for the mere fact, we've been everywhere else in Chinatown and we wanted to try something new. So we parked three blocks away (I told you it was busy here) arrived at The Phoenix and walked up two flights of stairs to this humongous room with more tables and chairs than most auditoriums. Their menu had some really good looking items, so we ventured into their selections and came out with: * Garlic Cucumber warm salad that was really good * Singapore Rice Noodles which was truly delicious * Saute Squid in an XO sauce that was as far as I was concerned was the star of the show * Spicy Szechuan Chicken with enough heat to get your attention. We all loved this dish * Pea Sprouts which had the perfect crunch - excellent * A slew of Ting Tao beer and a bottle of Hakushika Rice wine The ambiance here at the Phoenix Restaurant, looked and felt like I was in Hong Kong. The smell, atmosphere and mood this restaurant was throwing off took me to all of the fond memories of that city I loved so much. This alone will bring me back here many more times. There were a few "Hiccups" that happened (like it took 30 minutes to wrestle me up some hot mustard) but all and all I really liked The Phoenix Restaurant.
Been to Phoenix about 50 times in my life.
It used to be the flagship restaurant in Chinatown. It's been a while since I last visited. Based upon my Sunday's visit for dinner, it has gone down a bit. The food is solid, the service is OK, and the washroom is bad. The Peking duck was very good, the salt & pepper squid & shrimp was good. The boiled chicken was just OK. Hope for some improvements next time.
Had lunch here.
Parking is on the street right across from the restaurant. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the building. It is a very authentic restaurant. We ordered several appetizer-sized dishes and enjoyed everything we ate. I'd definitely go back again.

Let me start with walking into this restaurant was just like going to a place in Zhuhai. It was amazing. Large tables for big groups to come together and share some wonderful Dim-Sum and 100% authentic Chinese food. Everything was just perfect and service was fast and friendly. It was the perfect stop during my visit to Chicago. I highly recommend if you looking for a place that has room for many people.
Good service for Saturday dim sum at 11am.
Love that they came around with ribs for us to choose from. I enjoyed everything but nothing was a stand out to me. Very seafood forward as expected. Great view out of the window from our table.
Love this place.
My dear friend, and I go here couple of times a year. We stay for several hours, enjoying the different tastes of dim sum. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The place is very clean and staff are right on task of assisting customers. Host/Hostess are extremely welcoming. The ambience looks like a banquet hall and its on the 2nd floor. It's very comfortable. I love the tea they give you also also in a tea pot to share. All the food is tasty and hot.

The phoenix restaurant is a classic Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. This is where you want to go for dim sum, not one of the Americanized places that charges $14 for a pot of tea. Dim Sum is good and relatively cheap. We went when there was a 20% off sale on dim sum and our bill for 14 trays of dim sum was about $80, can't beat it. I can't remember if phoenix is cash only, we paid cash when we went there.
Excellent dim sum!
I loved our dim sum experience here. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the portion sizes were larger than expected! I especially loved their potstickers, and the curried baby octopus was wonderful. The stir fried rice with (I think) roast pork was wonderful. Service was friendly and courteous. I'd definitely return!
