Houses many good restaurants
Pier 17, by the waterfront is a nice building housing many restaurants. We dined at Momofuku ssam bar and could see many going for a concert here. Walking along the waterfront is a lovely experience.

Pier 17 used to be wonderful! It had a 3-level mall with shops & restaurants at all different price ranges. However, going to Pier 17 recently, I found it boring. Not at all like it used to be. Even heard the Chorus Tree every year--singers standing in a Christmas tree configuration & singing carols. No more. The views are still amazing. Can't change that! A better place to go is Battery Park City & environs. Restaurants galore, shops, a mall, yachts, a marina . . .

Nice views but dirty and loud overall. I went down with my family and tbh couldn’t stand the loud music and beer bottles on the floor. No thanks.
Be the first to ReplyThe best thing about Pier 17 are the views!
The South Street Seaport is a historic neighbourhood in the southeast corner of the Financial District, where Fulton Street meets the riverside. It is bordered by the East River and crossed by that elevated roadway, bizarrely painted a lighter shade of purple.
I hadn’t been here for decades, but remember the old historic timber warehouse building which formed Pier 17. Way back then it was a hive of activity, with shops and cafes. I must say I was a bit disappointed to see its modern replacement, not realising the original structure had been destroyed in Hurricane Sandy and rebuilt in 2018. The complex there was a bit soulless and virtually empty; maybe it was COVID; maybe it was all closed for the holiday season… overall it just lacked historic charm, energy, life, and appeal.
The best thing about Pier 17 then were the various views of New York you got from the pier. Blessed with a glorious sunny day and clear blue skies, we had fabulous views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, the skyline of the Financial District behind it, and across the East River to Brooklyn beyond. You could see at close hand some of the historic shops docked at the various piers beside it, especially the 1908 Lightship Ambrose. I found the three colourful shapes (the heart, the ‘ban the bomb’ emblem, and the smiley face) on the boardwalk quite cheerful, and perfect for some fun photography. We climbed to the rooftop deck for more photographs, from slightly higher angles. Some of the food and cafe outlets were open, but they were empty. There were also bathroom facilities there.
We didn’t visit the nearby South Seaport Museum, but we did see the curious land-locked lighthouse and time-ball directly outside the museum as we walked to Pier 17. This maritime signaling structure doesn’t warn ships of danger any more, but serves as a memorial to the victims of the Titanic which sank in 1912.
By all means visit for the views; perhaps it comes alive at sunset and the evenings.
Views AMAZING but food & drink a rip off
AMAZING views!!!
But the food as others have said, it’s a rip off…
We booked a cabin in advance, and the idea is a great one, but you have no view from the cabins, so you do need to leave it to see the views (which when it’s freezing it’s not so tempting)
We ordered our food on the app & our drinks.
When the food turned up in take away tubs… I literally couldn’t believe it.
The nachos which were $20 were just standard ones that you get from a supermarket.
The dip of avacado was nice, but not worth the money.
We had a cocktail to share, please don’t bother… we were completely rid off…
I have only scored this experience so high because the views were amazing, but I would not recommend anyone to
Eat & drink here… not worth the money.
Priceless views & over the top pricey restaurants
A great place to walk around & even sit. The views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights, East Ricer are pretty spectacular.
Unfortunately, restaurants are over the top expensive. A shame there isn’t a reasonable venue.
Modern unique venue
Pier 17 is a truly unique venue, modern and sleek looking, and the rooftop is a stunning location for music gigs. The Brooklyn bridge lights up at night once the sun goes down alongside the NYC skyscrapers, making for a truly unique sight on the rooftop. Drink prices were standard for New York City, so generally expensive however that's to be expected. The stage, sound system and lighting were all very good.

It’s a nice place to relax and enjoy the skyline of Brooklyn heights and the bridge. It can get quite windy but it’s always awzeome to catch a fresh air with wave of the sea breeze that you can hear. You can just sit there and as well as get a nice pictures! You can see the boats and helicopters passing by as it’s one of the activities you can do around this area!

The old building on the pier was torn down several years ago. The new pier building is up and businesses are slowly opening up. But so far, there isn't much here, just a couple of restaurants. The roof top does have great views, as well as an ice skating rink. The pier also has several seating areas that overlook the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge. Other than some nice views, the new building is not that impressive.
