Quetzal Toronto Reviews from The Last Year
Dinner was as you'd expect and I'm not going to comment on
Dinner was as you'd expect and I'm not going to comment on the actual evening as it was fine. The problem was that I live in the UK and purchased a gift card for my brother in law's 60th birthday. It was a fair amount of work to do this but on the night, the restaurant charged them despite this. They said they applied the wrong amount of credit to the bill and were not aware of a problem. When I highlighted the error it took a series of email before they suggested they would refund the credit card (which should have been their first response). Anyway, I won't recommend based on my experience and their seeming disinterest with making good on the error.
Lovely meal but poor experience.

A forgettable meal that fell well short of Michelin-starred
A forgettable meal that fell well short of Michelin-starred expectations. Almost all the dishes I tried were well-presented, but perhaps at the cost of flavour as their dishes felt underseasoned and/or imbalanced - with the exception of the octopus dish which was delicious. Unfortunately, there are several better options in Toronto if you're seeking a Mexican or Michelin star dining experience.
Good food and cool experience sitting at the chef's table.
Our tasting menu experience included more notably the ceviche, quesadilla, fresh tortilla with lamb & mushrooms, 2 scallop dishes (wish they were bigger), sweetbread, and Tres Leches at the end. For $120pp I wish I got to try something more exciting like the bone marrow, large shrimps, and octopus that I saw the kitchen churning out for the other guests. For a Michelin restaurant, all I can say is their TASTING MENU was good & enjoyable, nothing that truly rocked my socks off though. Perhaps I'll have to try their other regular menu mains in the future ~ TIP: the waiter does ask you at the beginning of your experience if there's anything particular in the menu that you wanted to be apart of your tasting. If there's something you've been eyeing, make sure you mention it!!
Quetzal is a tapas-style, elevated Mexican/Spanish
Quetzal is a tapas-style, elevated Mexican/Spanish restaurant that was recently gilded one Michelin star. My partner and I came here for our early Valentine's day celebration. Upon entering, we were immediately taken care of and offered coat check. We chose booth seats (there is also bar seating option). The interior was beautiful with an open barbecue kitchen on the right side, and a bar on the left. You can also see people prepping ingredients near the middle. A great visual experience!! The menu is split into appetizers, vegetables, masa, seafood, meats, and desserts. They also have a separate cocktail and wine by the glass menu, or you can order wine by the bottle too. Since we were here for a full Michelin experience, we obviously got the curated menu! It's a 9-course tasting menu that features smaller-sizes of regular menu items, but to my knowledge you're able to cater it to your tastes based on preference or dietary restrictions. I thought it was great that it's so flexible! My boyfriend and I love to eat all sorts of food so we told our waitress to choose a bit of everything. We got the following: - Dry aged amberjack aguachile: This dish was phenomenal to start the tasting menu off. The amberjack was fatty but firm as it was dry aged. It was paired with jicama which offset the fattiness with a nice crispy crunch. It was served in a bath of blood orange, habanero, and scallion oil, which was so flavourful and tangy! 10/10 - Scallop ceviche: The black colour of this put me off a little bit but it was still so delicious once I tasted it! The crispy leeks reminded me of deep fried vermicelli. The combination of the sweet chewy scallops and the crispy leeks made it a great dish. 9/10 - Empanada oaxaquena: An amazing next course. The tortilla was had an amazing crust but was still soft and didn't crack when you cut into it. The lamb was soft and extremely gamey, but in a way that isn't offensive to the palate, it was very fresh! I loved this one and it came with a great spicy sauce. 10/10 - Embered cookstown beet: The presentation of this was super cute, but when I tried it, it was just alright. The first bite was a bit interesting as I'm not a huge fan of pickled vegetables, but it grew on me. The beets were very fresh and juicy. 7/10 - Veal: This wasn't on the menu so I can't give it a name. It was grilled veal with charred brussel sprouts on the side and butternut squash puree. I could see why it's not on the menu, this dish didn't really hit like the others. The meat was fatty and so soft, but didn't tasted like veal at all. I would've thought it was chicken if they didn't tell me straight up that it was veal. Brussel sprouts were okay, maybe would've been better if they didn't pull the leaves apart. Butternut squash puree felt unnecessary and I don't think the sweetness complemented the dish. 6/10 - Mushroom and shishito: The poblana cream was spicy!! The peppers and mushrooms were grilled to perfection - not soggy on the inside, but not dry with the char. However, I think one of the peppers (despite shishitos not being spicy) was actually very spicy and I ate all the seeds too... oops! 7/10 - Octopus: Great value on this, there was a lot to share. The octopus was chewy but not tough. I liked the napa cabbage it came with too. 9/10 - Pork secreto al pastor: This is the wow factor dish. Easily the best pork I've ever had. It was moist, juicy, lean but also had even distribution of fattiness. It melts in your mouth and breaks apart with a bite easily. The mushrooms and shishito, octopus, and this pork dish were served with some masa on the side so you can make your own tacos, almost. This tasted spectacular, especially if you have it with the grilled pineapple chunks on the side. The onion salsa was also a treat. 10/10 - Spiced Mexican ganache: This was like a chocolate mousse. I didn't really find the spice to be very prominent. I also don't usually like honeycomb, but when you crush it and mix it in, it was actually pretty great. 8/10 We went with some cocktails too: - No Heather, it's Heather's turn - Sin moda Mexicana Pretty good cocktails that weren't too strong with the alcohol taste. I loved how colourful the two drinks were (pink and bright green). The rim on these was the winner though: spicy, sour, and salty. 9/10 for both! Overall, this place is awesome and I can would say they deserved their Michelin star. Aside from the veal dish, I'd say the tasting menu was basically perfect. The flexibility of the curated menu, and the fact that multiple dishes were served at the same time was pretty unique. Service was very attentive. However, it may soon be time for them to evolve their restaurant from their current location - as it's a bit small with a low ceiling and the tables are pretty close together, it becomes very loud and I felt that it was the only thing that took away from an intimate dining experience.
We did the tasting menu which was $120pp.
Great ambiance. It recently got 1 star Michelin. The service was over the top and everyone was very attentive. Portions are small though I left feeling a bit hungry still. Cocktails are great here so definitely indulge in a few of those.
Quetzal exceeded all expectations.
We booked a table for three on a Sunday night weeks in advance. The culinary journey was a masterpiece - from the delectable amberjack agua chile and scallop ceviche to the flavorful mushroom and shishito, tlayuda masa, octopus, and mouthwatering pork secreto al pastor. Each dish was a flavourful adventure perfectly complemented by an array of well-crafted drinks. The impeccable service added to the overall enjoyment of the evening, making it a memorable experience. We finished with spiced Mexican coffee, coconut nicuatole, and tres leches desserts, which was the perfect conclusion. Quetzal delivers a top-notch dining experience, and I highly recommend for anyone seeking an elevated and authentic Mexican dining experience. Accessibility: No automatic door opener; washrooms are downstairs.
Quetzal is a Michelin rated Mexican/Spanish inspired
Quetzal is a Michelin rated Mexican/Spanish inspired restaurant. The restaurant itself has a trendy decor with some pretty loud music, (at least when we went), but overall the vibe is cool. The food is tapas style, so it might be better going with a group to taste more of the smaller dishes, but all the dishes pack flavor! The wait staff was friendly, asked us a free questions, and helped us decide on drinks and we went with the tasting menu. All in all, the experience was great and broadened my appreciation for Mexican cuisine.
What a great experience of food, from my first bite to my
What a great experience of food, from my first bite to my last. I loved every dish as everything was prepared perfectly. The server was the best. It's been a while since I enjoyed such a fine meal.
Great experience.
One of the best Mexican spots I have tried in Toronto. The scallops blew my mind so I highly recommend that dish. The masa dishes also excellent. The service was great and the place is pretty. I sat at the chefs counter which had a great atmosphere and you feel the heat from the wood burning fire.
A restaurant that is definitely deserving of its Michelin
A restaurant that is definitely deserving of its Michelin star! We made reservations the day of for later that night and were seated within 10 minutes. The interior and bar aesthetic were sleek and modern. We did the chef's tasting menu which consisted of a total of 10 dishes, all ranging from their sharable appetizers to entrees to dessert. For the price point, it was definitely worth the experience and quality of dishes. All of the dishes were amazing, and it was interesting to see elevated Mexican food and the various flavor profiles. Standouts included the scallop ceviche, newfound scallops with garlic butter, and bone marrow and wild Argentinian shrimp. We also got drinks, the godspeed yuzu , the sorry heather, and the neighborhood ice. The staff was super friendly and cleared and cleaned our table immediately after each round of food. I would definitely recommend trying this place!
Incredible meal and thank you Petra
One of the most incredible meals of my life. Amazing mushroom dish, Al pastor, tortillas, lamb, honestly everything was amazing. The meal was made even better by Petra, who had fabulous recommendations for the meal and our visit to Toronto (visiting from New York City). Thank you Petra and Quetzal team!
Awful- don’t do it
Horrific service. Awful food. Highly overrated. We were forgotten about several times, yet still managed a $500 bill. Saves yourselves and go to a restaurant that values customers
Wonderful Nouveau Mexican fare at this Michelin 1 star establishment!
Wonderful nouveau Mexican food in the College/Bathurst area. Good luck getting a reservation after Michelin awarded it a 1-star. Staff friendly, try the Tasting Menu starting at $105/person. Good value and lots of food. Good luck and enjoy!
Outstanding
Extraprdinary good experience at Quetzal. We had a table at the kitchen desk and the atmosphere was really nice. Food was outstanding.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
