Busy and Vibrant
The view is spectacular and the service efficient, but the restaurant is always crowded and noisy. I find the portions far too large and so ordered two starters which were more than enough. It is pricy but the fish is always fresh and very tasty.
Be the first to ReplyBest seafood restaurant in the area.
Food and service were great. My mussels were perfectly steamed and seasoned and the swordfish was like butter. Maria, our server, was very friendly and attentive. Beware of the price of cocktails and a drunk guy who hangs out by the exit when you leave. I am sure he is a regular.
Be the first to ReplyGreat fish and chips
Three of us enjoyed the fish and chips and the house burger. Great setting, very picturesque. Ordered some salads to go with the mains, they didn't materialise. To be fair, we never mentioned it due to the large portions. Likewise, we weren't charged for them either. Great service. Will go again.
Be the first to Replygreat seafood and location.
We were visiting family in Norwalk and had dinner at this outstanding restaurant. located on the headwaters of Fivemile river, the location, food and service were great!!!
Be the first to ReplyA Fall from grace, can happen; yesterday it was at Rowayton Seafood.
Yesterday, May 27 at 4:15 PM, the setting was epic, riverside with small docks along its perimeter. The orders placed were: Delicious Several rounds of Reposado/watermelon and jalapeรฑo infused tequila cocktails, IO ordera a Grey Goose Martini, stirred not shaken with blue cheese stuff olives, it was watery, We ordered 18 Copp's Island oysters, spicy tuna tartar (where's the tuna?), smoky fish dip, 3 bowls of lobster bisque, orange glazed yellowfin tuna (Dull in flavor, needed more seasoning), Tempranillo wine, grilled swordfish, Faroe Island salmon, seven-layer chocolate cake and apple crumb pie on Long Island Sound! We ordered a Take Home dinner of Fish and Chips. For the last 15 minutes of our stay, we waited for the "Take Home" dinner for our at home senior) It wasn't forthcoming. I called the server and asked did you forget about our take home? And I ordered a glass of port wine while we waited. That's when it got ugly. The General Manager came over and said you have to leave. He said the reservation was for 4:15 and he needed the table immediately and he ordered his workers to begin reconfigurating the seats we were in. The check had already been paid and it was better than $600.00. He said you have to leave now. I said go call the police. He shouted you are not welcome back here. I stood up and left the restaurant to obtain my car from the valet. Then through a window, the take out shopping bad came and the glass of port sort of hanging in mid air. The bag we took the port was left behind. What is is sad is that this was a place we used to come for special occasions. Well, not anymore. It is a decent restaurant, with high prices for the quality, and an idyllic location. All things can fall from grace. Yesterday, Rowayton Seafood fell.
Be the first to ReplyIt Is Just Not the Same
We have been coming to Rowayton Seafood for over 20 years. It has always been one of our family celebration locationsโbirthdays, anniversaries, kids home from school, kids leaving for school, etc. We have become friends with various past hosts and wait staff. One of their dishes is my favorite seafood dish ever. I havenโt ordered any other main course in several years since this came in the menu. Barramundi Milanese. It is amazing. BUT, this last visit was disappointing. Not the foodโit was as good as ever. It was an attitude change. Occasionally we would bring a special bottle of wine and for years the corkage has been a reasonable $25. This time when we put the bottle on the table the waitress informed us the corkage was $40. I was shocked and noted that it had always been $25. She informed me that โwell, we now have a Wine Spectator awardโ. What it signaled to me was that The Restaurant no longer saw itself as a local restaurant for the Rowayton/Darien communityโit is now a destination for foodies. She then said โdo you still want me to open your bottle?โ It was a disappointing evening because it felt like the Rowayton Seafood we had known and loved for over 20 years was gone (interestingly, so are the hosts and wait staff we had come to know).
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Seafoof Restaurant on the Waterfront
We usually eat lunch at Rowayton Seafood once a week, occasionally dinner. Why? For the seafood. Itโs fresh, cooked properly and tasty. In the past two weeks, Iโve eaten the Barramundi and fresh caught Porcini Encrusted Yellowfin Tuna. Both perfect. Iโve the Lobster Roll previously. A bit pricey but lobster is never cheap and itโs excellent. I started with Copps Island Oysters. Oysters donโt all taste the same but these are excellent. For desert I had Lemon Blueberry Mascarpone Cake . Iโve had others, also good. Service is excellent. The restaurant is in an old waterside house with a recently renovated covered deck area, Connected by a wooden walkway from the main restaurant
Be the first to ReplyNo Respect For a Working Man's Family
I've waited a few days to write this so that I could be fair and honest. A few nights ago my family and I traveled down to Rowayton Seafood from about an hour's distance away. It was a beautiful evening and I knew that they would likely be quite busy. They would not take a reservation but they said that they "welcome walk ins." Realizing that they would be busy, I called ahead to ask if there was a possibility we could walk in or did they think they were too busy to accommodate us. They said they could accommodate us so we drove down to the restaurant. I am a working man. I drove down in an F-150 and the minute they saw the truck, the valet said to basically go away, they were too busy. I informed the valet that we had called and were told they could fit us in. After persuading him to let us park we walked into the restaurant and were basically told to get packing. I told the hostess, whose voice I recognized from the phone call, that we called ahead and she said they could fit us in and that we had driven an hour to get there. She was totally unaffected by this information and basically told us we were out of luck. I wonder what would have happened if I had shown up in a BMW or a Porsche? I don't take things like this to heart though. I'm proud of being a hard working family man and at the same time I don't see anything wrong with having nice things or a nice car. What I do see as wrong, is judging anyone by the car they drive or judging them worthy or unworthy of decency based on any perception or misconception of their socio-economic status. Shame on you Rowayton Seafood. I would say this: If you work hard for your money, as I do, I would think about where you ought to spend that hard earned money. A nice meal is great and having it in a nice setting makes it even better. But the ugliness I experienced at Rowayton Seafood would spoil even the finest meal in the grandest of settings. Needless to say we won't be back. Working men and women take notice. If anyone at Rowayton Seafood has anything to say in reply, I hope it's not just some empty platitude as one might expect.
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch
My parents and I had lunch at this restaurant on Father's day, and it was perfect. I didn't make a prior reservation, but they were able to find a table for us anyway. The food that was served was delicious. Every fish dish was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Based on what we ate, I can definitely recommend Barramundi Milanese, Fish and Chips and Blueberry Pie for dessert. The service was also excellent. As far as parking is concerned, the restaurant has valet parking, or you can try to find a spot on the nearby streets yourself.

Be the first to ReplyExcellent lunch in Rowayton
We had a late lunch on a sunny winter day. It was a very nice ambiance and had great views. The mussels appetizer was excellent and all of our entrees were very good. The best part was the service which was very attentive but not intrusive. We will look forward to coming back the next time we are in CT!
Be the first to Replygreat staff and beautiful location
we have been going to Rowayton Seafood since 1996 and love the staff, food, and beautiful location. We would love to see more Italian wines on the wine list - Gavi, Chianti, etc.
Be the first to ReplyA top Connecticut seafood restaurant
The seafood is peerless. Service is professional. The restaurant is handsome the oysters, shrimp, little necks all are fresh. This place warrants a detour.
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience, at CT prices.
This is a premium location, delivery great time for business meals, family time or romance. Strongly recommended. PROs: next to a marina; charming house; nice tent for outdoor seating and great deck, when the tent is not there. Kind service. Very good food -risotto included. 4 dessert options plus one extra menu. The adjacent fish shop adds to the experience. CONs: Pricey, as expected by a premium location in CT. Small starters portions. Unimpressive Cheviche; fried calamari definitely sub-prime. CONCLUSIONS: I will be back and recommend it, no doubt. It delivers a wonderful experience overall.
