Great Food But Painful Take-out Experience....
Painful and slow everytime you go there for take-out. Takes forever. Don't mean to be rude, but please hire someone who knows how to run an efficient counter operation. The food is great; if the service matched, it would be such a home run!!

This was our 4 th or 5 th time at the
Russ and Daughters location at
The Museum on 92 nd Street.
Granted the food is good, however
We find the Servers just not accomodating
As they should be in this good but
Very overpriced Cafe.
The Attitude from the Servers and or
Management here is " take it or leave
It Attitude".
They could care less if your order is
Satisfactory and the Servers are generally
Very Blaze" if u like and or not.
I like this place, but I am generally
Offended when we go here and feel
Bullied by the people who work here.
Wether this is their first complaint or
Not, we question going there again.
I was going to write to one of the owners,
But was questioned on the phone as to
Why I needed to speak to him.
Yum!
Let's get the bad out of the way first. The hostess was surly, which I didn't appreciate. Had a fleeing thought of just leaving but had been looking forward to this and was starving, so we stayed.
Glad we did. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, great bloody marys, awesome bagel/salmon boards, and blintzes. Enjoyed our brunch very much. So much more on the menu that I want to return and try. We'll be back, but they lose a star for the cold welcome.
Savory and delicious weekday lunch before Museum visit
We enjoyed the Standard, silky lox, bagels, bialys, as well as the beet borscht.
Yes, somewhat pricey (but service is included- a smart practice) but the food is authentic and delicious. Service was very efficient, it's busy on a weekday (25" wait) bu,t so what, we're retired!
Then visit the fabulous Jewish Museum exhibit before it closes on Feb 9- Edith Halpert and the Rise of American Art. Full of surprises, early 20th c. American art and truly wonderful American folk art are intermingled.
Forget about it
It may be good but it takes time to get there and you won't like the 1.5 hour wait. Really, that long on a Sat AM at 10.

Decided to check this place out based on the rave reviews on Yelp. I have to be honest I was disappointed with the place. There was a two hour wait for lunch. Place had a text messaging service set up so at least we didn't have to stay on premise and could wonder around the neighborhood. That was a plus. Once we were notified our table was ready it was just a short 5 min before we were seated. So far so good. We ordered the Classic Board with the beagle with smoke salmon and the Herring plate. While smoke salmon and bagel were decent they were not any better or unique compared to the other bagel and smoke salmon I had at beagle shops in west coast (Ie Noah's bagel in east coast would be as good if. It better in both accounts ). The quality certainly would not justified a 2 hour wait.
The herring plate was good but really nothing that stood out to me.
Personally for me I do not think it is worth the wait time for table to dine at this place. If there were no wait I would consider revisit. But if there is a wait longer than 10min then my advise would be to go else where.
Wonderful place to relax
The bagels here are spectacular. They appear quite expensive to start with, but sales tax and service is included in the price (a welcome rarity for Manhattan), and anyway, the taste is truly spectacular.
You can tell the ingredients are top of the range and that the staff care about what they do.
The coffee was delicious and refilled often.
Worth a two mile walk uptown, and a great place to chill after the nearby museums.
Close But No Cigars
Having been raised on Jewish style food but away from NYC for awhile I looked forward to Russ when visiting the Museum. Very convenient spot to precede a museum tour. Menu got my juices going but was immediately disappointed with knish which had no character and was not served hot. The sliced lox on my Classic Plate was โsee-throughโ which for $23 was not appropriate. My friends blintzes came out under cooked and devoid of flavor. Rugalach were true to form. An egg cream which was made with Foxโs U Bet gave them cred. Note that table seating opens at 11:00 and gets busy very quickly.
