😍 5/5 - Excellent Cooking

The dishes (and there were many) were all flavorful, interesting, and bordered between good to outstanding, with most on the very good to excellent side. Many of the flavors were of Moroccan decent, particularly in the second part of the meal. The emphasis was on flavor and not presentation with tended to be simple. This we saw as a positive since too many restaurants in this class focus more on the presentation than the flavor. We were welcomed with a cocktail upon entering, a choice of three spritzes. A few missteps in getting to the bar: When you enter the office building where the SAGA is located there is a hostess who takes your name and has you wait for the one elevator that takes you to the 63rd Floor. The night we were there there was a line up so the wait was about 10 minutes. Upon seeing this crowd, I asked for a mask, there was one so they directed me to another restaurant to fetch one but they too were unable to accommodate me. Fortunately we had our own elevator after the crowd went up. Once you arrive on the 63rd floor, you are greeted by a hostess who again takes your name and escorts you to the bar behind her. Given the fact that there was only one elevator the second hostess should have greeted us at the elevator and known our name. The second misstep was one we arrived our our table they asked if there were any allergies. There were and this had been stated in the original booking and later, when asked again in an email from the restaurant, repeated. Now they were asking for a third time. For $300 a person, there should have been some attention paid to the original booking and if they missed that, the email that SAGA sends. The final misstep occurred the next day when they sent the menu. Since there were two of us with different menus since there were alterations in the menu. Rather than sent two different menus we received one. When this happened at Spanish restaurant El Bulli years ago we received two totally different menus (in English) before leaving the restaurant. These are small missteps, but a two Michelin star restaurant should have better trained staff. The meal was $1,000 for two people, including a $125 wine (most wines on the menu are well over $200). Was it worth it? Probably. There was much work that went into the meal. The meal boarded on excellent with is a rarity. I would likely return when some of the kinks are ironed out and it is a smoother running operation.
