I came here full of hype, full of great expectation. Took a while to get their FB messenger to agree to slot us in from 430pm - 6pm. Then on the day prior to arrival, they sent me a text to remind me I've to leave by 530pm? I cut and paste their message what's going on? They said "Oh! they've to prepare the next guest for 630pm. Anyway, I was too busy and managed to get there by 420pm slighty earlier for our time slot. We're the ONLY guest and a Chinese guy who speak with an ang mo accent (whether is fake or not who knows these days) with a mask show us in. He introduced nice sake to start of 180ml and we were happy. We saw the 3-5pm appetizer menu of 5 dishes only and politely ordered 2 of their dishes.
On the 2nd 180ml we wanted to try something bolder and more expensive and ordered close to 5pm. We know from their menu dinner starts at 5pm. So i told them we've to leave soon, we better order our dinner now. The "nice" Chinese short guy shoved her young lady colleague to us. She told us. "Oh! You've suppose to leave by 6pm, so we CANNOT serve you any dinner as our chef is VERY BUSY preparing for the omakase dinner" We looked at her in disbelief. 1. She didn't bother to ask us want we want. 2nd Dinner starts at 5pm yet the company instructed her to decline guest for dinner from 5-6pm?
After which, she stood literally 10m from us. We felt so awkward making any talks. Then 10min later, she came back and told us "LAST CALL for drinks at 5:10pm"
I've visited enough resto. I'm sure Sakemaru is now probably on the rise. But this is Singapore, we'll be realistic. At this location, with this kind of attitude and this kind of training of your staff, we can only wish you all the best.
Please do visit Yoshida at 10 Duxton Hill. No pretentious + no handbag ladies. Nice good Japanese food and sake + real service.
