I mean, just look at the ban-chan.
This place didn't disappoint the expectations I had. A lot of people recommended this place to me because I'm always look for an affordable and high quality Korean ACYE bbq place. They have a large variety of meats to choose from. Service is fast. Quality of the meat is solid. They have endlessss sides and they are vigilant about when you run out. The grill is placed on charcoal instead of a regular flame, so you can taste the char a bit on the meat. I enjoyed it a lot and I'll be back!
Be the first to ReplyIt's been a few years since I've been here.
Went with a friend. Took a second to get seated. But when we did it was a big table, no problem so we were off to the side, perfect. When we ordered it came out super fast. Place was busy as. The variety of banchan was our favorite part.

Best place to go to if you're looking for an abundance of different varieties of Korean banchan side dishes cause they're the best at that! Food was great. We got the bulgogi and the kalbi. Service was attentive, can get busy during dinner time tho
Be the first to ReplyWent on a Friday night and I had the Bulgolgi.
It was good. I was with a large group of people for a birthday party so it probably would be a lot different if I was able to cook my own food on the charcoal grills provided.

I had a good experience here after hearing so many good things about it. They have parking but it's very limited. I was fortunate enough to find one since it wasn't very busy at the time. We came for lunch and ordered a few dishes. The side dishes are plentiful. Very decent food quality. Service left a lot to be desired. Just very mediocre. Prices were okay, nothing too expensive for what we got. This is not ayce bbq, it's better if you go to Iron Age or Bbq Garden for that. For those that are unfamiliar with the concept, you cook the meat yourself for the bbq. Very easy. You just cook the meat to your liking. I would recommend this place if you live towards the north side of Chicago. If you live in the burbs, you can good Korean restaurants in the Niles, Glenview, Schaumburg, Arlington Heights areas.
Be the first to ReplyHey guys I had serious stomach issue after dining here.
Be aware some of the food either not fresh or contaminated. Wont return.
Be the first to ReplyWe had dinner on January 5th.
One of the waitresses kept coughing and didn't wear a mask. She passed food and rice around, which made us feel uncomfortable eating at all . In this period of flu and COVID, as a restaurant, they should not allow sick employees to do such work.
Be the first to ReplySan Soo Gab San has very authentic Korean bbq.
The restaurant is large and can accommodate large groups. The sides that come with are plentiful and allow for a large range of Korean flavors. The sides are definitely the most fun part of the experience. Other than bbq they have great clay pot stews. The parking lot is small so you might have to park on the street. Overall, we always have a nice experience .

A great KBBQ spot in Lincoln Square! I went with a group of 5 so we were able to get the group special which was a TON of food for $50 each. In addition to the typical side dishes, we also got some dumplings, a seafood pancake, and some glass noodles - the serving sizes were huge for each item. We also got to order 5 different meats. The servers were pretty nice, a little hard to get their attention though! I was so full by the end of the night and thought it was well worth the price. The sides were all fantastic. Some of the meats were a little too fatty for me, but I really enjoyed the chicken and bulgogi!

I came on a Friday night with friends, so I expected a wait, but we were seated and served immediately; you can't beat that. The server checked in This is a Korean barbecue restaurant where you cook your own food; some places they do it for you, but I like that here it's up to the diners to choose how rare or well done we want everything. They also do a good job replacing the grill after it's been used enough so that things don't burn. The menu is extensive and there's a lot to choose from, but everything we got was excellent. But what really stands out is the amount of sides you get. Honestly, I could just happily eat all the sides and be full, and they were all delicious. I would definitely return!
Be the first to ReplyThe food is delicious.
I enjoyed everything about it. I go there for my birthday every year. The friendliest people. We have fun cooking at the table. All the side dishes are so good too.
Be the first to ReplyWe've dined in and ordered delivery.
I think most reviews reflect their service since they aren't the most friendly or attentive. However, the food is good! Even with delivery, they're generous with the banchan (side dishes), and portions are good for the price.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Korean BBQ.
Sides are plentiful and good. You cook your meat over a small lump charcoal brazier. The also have a really good seafood pancake thingie. We learned of this place from out Filipino friends. One location near downtown, and a sister location in the northwest suburbs.

I had the pleasure of dining in at San Soo Gab San last week. Overall, it was a decent experience but nothing outstanding. We each consumed around 3 pounds of fatty Korean BBQ meat, and it was mostly tasty. The flavors on the meat were very good, and the atmosphere was nice and smokey. Unfortunately, the service was a bit slow and it felt a little less tasty when I saw the bill.

I remember last time I came here was a few years ago for my son's birthday. There was a lot of banchan but not enough meat that we ordered. One thing my family and I felt really uncomfortable about was the fact that waitresses were just standing there staring at us eat the entire time. I love restaurants that serve you but aren't overbearing and hovering over you like this place. I enjoyed my first experience here years ago but the experiences I've had after that were all negative. I think some of the waitresses are also dismissive and rude.

Went with a group of 10 and got the group meal Pros: they take reservations for groups of 10 or more. They give you 1,000,000 sides to try and many were pretty good. Dumplings were good. Cons: only 8 people fit at a table so 10 is an odd #. The coal fire takes awhile to heat up. Service was very slow. Never got the rice we asked for. The beef ribs were 98% bone. We had some communication issues and ordered 12 group special for 10 people. I feel like we should have just gotten extra meat, not extra apps. It was a lot of food but maybe not enough without the extra servings.Bulgogi chicken and ribeye were our favorites.

When I went the grills were not working (which was why I deducted a star) The waitstaff was amazing ! The arrangement of side dishes WOW!

I've been here in the past before and wanted to try it again. It did not disappoint! Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted and seated. The ajooma also explained that the BBQ meats can only be cooked inside the kitchen and not table-side (which was a bit disappointing cus we wanted the kbbq experience). Nonetheless, we still got a Ribeye and Galbi. We also ordered Chop Chae and Seafood Pancake. Once again, I was blown away by the amount of side dishes they serve. There was legit 20+ dishes. It took me a while to try them all lol. The meats were flavorful, tender, and smokey. So good. I love that they give lettuce for wrapping all the sides and meats together too. The Chop Chae was good, but pretty average. The Seafood Pancake was the highlight of our meal. It had the most seafood I've seen in any seafood pancake I've had in the past. Legit every bite had octopus in it. It had crunchy edges and was so flavorful with the dipping sauce! Would definitely recommend getting it.

Food was good but service was horrible! After we paid for our food and got our side order of chop chae, another server took our to go chop chae and put it in another plate and served it to another table. She came back and said that it wasn't ours. So we had to wait for 40 minutes to get ours. No apologies whatsoever.
Be the first to ReplyWe love this authentic Korean BBQ spot.
Everything is great. That said, a recent visit was uncharacteristically disappointing. There was a paper sign in the door as you enter that said there is no at table BBQ'ing! Evidently, they are getting a new fan system installed...in 6mos! This is something folks should know before driving an hour to the restaurant. Please be aware before going. The banchan is still plentiful, but the meat/bbq selections, which are cooked in the back, tasted luke it had been cooked on a flat top and nit drained. A greasy mess! Please be aware and and call ahead before you allow yourself the vision of the San Soo of old!

SO GOOD we spent 100 dollars here and the food was great you get many options and choices like on the menu they have soup! the bad thing is was when we were ending the waitress was like begging for a tip? yes we have a tip but they even wrote on paper tip us with cash and then also said please tip me?

The barbecue here is delicious! I came here fir lunch on a weekend, and, having heard that it was a popular place, was worried there would be a huge wait. To my surprise, there was a lot of space and plenty of places to sit! They have a group set for if you all want to share an assortment of dishes, but it's about $40 a person and you have specific items you want, you can probably get by with a slightly more reasonable bill!I don't think there's really any wrong way to order--I would recommend the brisket and the beef bulgogi. The staff is really nice about replacing your grill when it gets too caked with gunk. Also they have A/C, which is a must during the summertime!

Went with little to no expectations and it didn't disappoint. The only good thing about this place is that its one of the few real charcoal using KBBQ in Chicago. But the meat quality is really low. The saeng kalbi, which is unmarinated, was paper thin and frozen. I would also question if it was all real short rib or mixed with other cuts. The meat is so thin, they used a cooking plate over the fire that slides all over and is a safety concern. This cooking plate is usually used for thin brisket in most places. The marinted meats weren't much better. Although they give a lot of various side dishes, most weren't very good. The staff working didn't seem to want to be there and had an annoyed demeanor. The staff was nowhere to be found when eating, but when it was time to pay, they hovered over and waited for me to sign the receipt. I think the owners have given up on this place and only focuses on their Morton Grove location.
Be the first to ReplyI love Sansoogabsan.
I've been coming here for years. The service is super quick. We were sat immediately on a Friday night and the fire and food was all in front of us within 5 minutes, no joke. This spot gives the largest amount and variety of banchan. The marinated galbi's my favorite. Sansoogabsan is always predictably a great time with great good. They have a small parking lot, if you can't find parking there, I usually park in the neighborhood behind it.
