All Very Good, but the Noise Level
My children schemed to surprise me with dinner at Scampi for a big birthday. The surprise (not easy to keep things from me😉) was that my daughter flew in from California! The dinner was already a very special night, but the employees at Scampi kept it going. We had very attentive staff and when our waitress was not available to pour our wine, one of the other staff stepped in. Since it was our first time there, our waitress gave us the lay of the land with favorites and how much to order. We started with a bottle of wine from their well rounded wine list. We then shared scallop crudo, little gem salad, and delicata squash. All were delicious, but my favorite was the squash. The burrata with the drizzle of hot honey, the zing of the pepitas and basil pesto were oh so yummy. They brought bread sticks for the table, but some warm bread to dip in this dish would have been much appreciated. We all ordered different entrees and one of their their signature Mafaldini Scampi to share. My Branzino was very good and the broccoli rabe (one of my favorites) was a great side. We all loved the Mafaldini, especially the pasta style which complimented the dish. We did not order dessert as we were meeting friends at another place to continue the celebration. Upon hearing it was my birthday our waitress brought us some bubbly to toast my special day. It was a wonderful night from start to finish. My only complaint was that the decibel level in the restaurant was off the charts and you had to shout to be heard. Maybe it is my age 😉😉.

The branzino was excellent, crispy, you could eat the skin, with a wonderful spicy sauce. Friendly service, I had a very enjoyable evening.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing!
If you have never been. Go now! Food and service is the best I have ever had I am going back for another visit as soon as I can.
Be the first to ReplyPoor food, poor service
Unfortunately not what expected. This restaurant lacks of both, quality food and service. In addition, this is not a cheap restaurant as we paid usd 150 for 2 persons. Started with Buffalo mozzarella but the topping was sweet and a little harder to be eaten. Main course: we ordered the octopus and the pasta with shrimps (sorry, I don't remember the names as per menu). Well the octapus was below average. The only dish that was really tastfull was the pasta. Final score 1 out of 3. As far as the service is concerned, we felt that we had to eat fast and go. Arrived a few minutes before 8 and we were told that the kitchen was closing at 8 which is crazy as we were given only couple of minutes to order. The food came fast and the waitress was like waiting for us to clean and go home. By 9 she cleaned up the table, brought the bill and announced that they were closing 😱😱. For the reasons explained above, this place is not recommended.
Be the first to ReplySignature dish is a great choice
Scampi is a solid choice for modern Italian cuisine. The mafaldini scampi—probably the restaurant’s most popular dish—was an excellent combination of fresh shrimp and crispy breadcrumbs. The parsley seasoning was strong but enjoyable.
That being said, the ambience and appetizer could have been better. The indoor space was not very crowded yet incredibly noisy—it was unpleasant enough for us to want to sit in the outdoor dining area on a cold, rainy night. Our appetizer was the broccolini and burrata dish, and while the two paired very well together, it was a bit cold and would have tasted better if there was a side of bread offered with it (there wasn’t any bread on the menu).
Overall, if you have your eyes set on the mafaldini scampi, it’s worth a trip.
A must when in NYC
Old world style with a new world taste. Simply delicious...service, quality, presentation, all a 10!

My foodie son's picked this spot and it was outstanding. Appetizers, main courses, sides, and desserts where seriously to die for. I enjoyed the Octopus main course along with the shrimp scampi. Amazing tastes and highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyEclectic great stop!
We stopped in for a bite and some wine - they have happy hour with cheaper drinks (a variety of them). They also have some great priced appetizers. The service was great and they have several servers at the bar. They also serve craft cocktails as well. A nice stop off the beaten path.
Be the first to ReplyReturned again to this womderful rstraunt
Last time I was in New York I discovered this restraunt and promised myself a return trip. Arrived and it was vibrant, buzzing and rather too loud for my taste - however as the early evening crowd moved on the noise levels abated and when the food arrived everything was good.....really good. Service was exemplary, food was first class - cooked well and presented nicely - its expencive but worth it. Like the last time, when I next return to NY I will again treat myself to a meal at Scampi.....but only one unless of course the rate of exchange improves.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time visit with group of six
Our group of six were seated at a table in a corner, part chairs and part "couch." The restaurant space is very open.
We all agreed to order several dishes off the menu and share. We checked with our server first to see if the portions would allow for this and in fact the plan worked perfectly.
To start we shared heirloom tomatoes and burrata, tuna tartare, fluke and the yellowtail.
Second course we shared all of the six pastas.
For our entree we shared the swordfish and the ribeye.
Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly and we all cleaned our plates and the serving plates.
The service was excellent. We continually had our water glasses refilled. As we finished our main beverage we were offered refills on those if we wished. We could not ask for better service--all done graciously and efficiently.
The restaurant can accommodate couples or groups (we were not the biggest group at this dinner seating. One group included small children. There are also two unisex restrooms.
One criticism is that the restaurant was in fact very noisy, making our conversations hard to hear. They had radio music playing, which was unnecessary. Of course, sometimes nothing can be done about noise level but if anything can be done about that, it is worth pursuing.
The food and service definitely warrant our return visit.
Colossal waste of money, loud and uncomfortable
Went with some business colleagues. I am Italian. Know good Italian. From RI. Seafood and Italian epitomizes RI food. Place was abysmal. Incredibly loud. Impossible to have a conversation. Soo uncomfortable Chairs made for tiny people. Chair size matched the size of most items on the menu and price charged for the food with the exception of the pasta entrees was criminal. Over $750 for 6 people with drinks. Hint to scampi: Italian food is meant to fill you up. When you need bread at the END of an Italian meal there’s a problem. Maybe it’s more important to feel cool, by spending a ton of money for tiny portions of outrageously expensive and underwhelming food. Run like the hills from this place !!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Food!
I have personally never had such good Italian food. I loved it so much! And the ambiance was so cosy. We managed to get there when there was less crowd (dinner time), so the service was really good and the food was served fast.
Be the first to ReplyNoisy, slow service, uneven food that led to stomach distress
I hate when places won't seat you "until all of your party is here" when in reality the table isn't ready... after a wait, very very slow service between courses and uneven food. The endive special had never met its bagna cauda. The namesake dish was okay - but nut much more than that. A friend's bronzino was better. The dessert was good by then it was over for this place.
Be the first to ReplyBad start— good food
Went here with some locals for Brunch/lunch. We did not have a reservation and there was virtually not a single diner in the restaurant when he arrived. The manager (?) who greeted us was totally obnoxious. He was clearly appalled that we could possibly be attempting to dine with out a reservation. With a few huffs and harumpfs, he begrudgingly finally seated us. I struggled with giving this place 4 stars after the way we were treated. The space is quite appealing— bright , airy and inviting (despite the jerk at the door). Food was creative, tasty and well presented. On the down side...two folks ordered coffees which came quickly but there was never a check back for a refill. also, the woman whose job it was to clear plate hovered and we had to kind of protect our plates or they disappeared. Pastry basket ($14) was ridiculously over priced ) with a dry biscuit, a small (think Mini) muffin and a one inch brownie. The thick bacon was barely cooked—not even appealing. Highlights were the Avocado Bruschetta (generous amounts of avocado), ouvo Scampi ( think scrambled eggs with shrimp and delicious toasted Italian bread), and Mafaldini Scampi which was delicious combo of tasty, crunchy pasta and an understated sauce.
