A friendly welcome
Our first visit based on a recommendation and certainly wouldn't be our last whenever we're in Belfast again. A warm and friendly welcome with a team that are engaging and attentive throughout. Really nice presented plates of food with top quality ingredients on every dish with taste to match. Highly recommended, and thanks to all the team!

We came here for Sunday lunch after a christening on the Malone Road, the whole experience was fantastic. We had nine adults, two kids and one very small child. Restaurant was immaculate, food was outstanding, everyone really enjoyed it. Service was great! We'd a lovely afternoon - thank you Shu!

Dinner was okay. I hadn't been to SHU for quite some time and had remembered it as better. My crispy artichoke was a bit soggy and lukewarm while my husband's wild garlic soup was bland, The fish, trout and monkfish, were better but the potato accompaniment was a micro portion. I thought they'd forgotten to add mine to the dish! A broccoli side was nicely cooked. The bill was just over £100 so fairly expensive, I don't feel enthusiastic about a return visit very soon.
Be the first to ReplyA great restaurant with mouthwatering food.
It was my second visit to this amazing restaurant and I have to say that the food was really tasty and the presentation was excellent The staff were very friendly and helpful and looked after us really well. Im really looking forward to my next visit to Belfast and having another fabulous meal in that great restaurant. I highly recommend it .

Tasty and good service. A bit of a distance from the city centre unless you take public transport but overall we enjoyed the experience.

Outstanding. Friendly and quick service. Food was amazing. Tuna Tartare and Roast Duck were standout dishes. As it was New Years Eve it was on the pricey side of value for money. Would definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible service and rude waiter
Extremely disappointing. Myself and family have dined at Shu a number of times over the years. The main reason we kept coming back was because of the location and the fact that they do have a standard menu in place during early afternoons. My recent experience was infuriating as the service was shambolic. After finishing the main course, the staff just ignored us. We had finished our cocktails and were just sat there waving our hands in the air trying to find out what was happening. Nothing for at least 30 minutes. When we finally got the aloof waiters attention, he was completely indifferent to the fact that we had not received our dessert. He could see our empty plates and glasses. No food or drink on the table. Service was so bad it felt deliberate. After I told the manager she offered to refund two cocktails - notably this was only offered after we complained to her, this was not offered while we were at our table complaining to the aloof waiter. Too little too late so I declined this pathetic offer. Turned our day out into a very unpleasant one. Will not return and nor will my family.

9 of us arrived for a family meal with guests having just arrived from England. Had been telephoned twice regarding the booking / firstly to take £180 deposit & secondly to make sure we were aware we only had 2 hours at the table. Arrived to a set menu on each plate - no option for a la carte. No price on the menu - when we asked were told it was £50 per head!! We were shocked as at no point were we informed of this or we would never had made the booking - it’s not on the website & we really didn’t want 3 courses but were told it was only choice. Very understaffed, staff forgot to bring items requested and the food came out so fast we barely had time to digest each course. Quality & quantity of food not nearly what it was or should be. Felt so rushed & it was such an unenjoyable experience we cancelled a future booking.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, bad service / such a shame.
Lovely food and great service to start, but unfortunately went down hill from that point - service became almost non-existent and started to almost feel deliberate but suspect it was due to pressures elsewhere. Such a shame and Shu need to focus on basic customer service. Still a good restaurant but no longer great.

This was my first visit to Belfast. What a wonderful city with so much story to tell. It has so much to give. What it seems not to have to give is fine dining. Maybe that's because eating out and tourism is part of a relatively recent history for this city. If you are coming to Shu and from outside of Northern Ireland then manage your expectations. This is not a fine dining or Michelin experience. I have never felt so rushed, ever, in any other restaurant. I am not exaggerating when I say that the starter arrived within 2 minutes of food being ordered. The wine had not even been poured. Following starters my partner got up to use the bathroom as the plates were cleared, I picked up my phone and noticed some activity at our table. Our main was being delivered. Maybe one minute after finishing our starter! Service was friendly, plates were hot, food was ok. Nothing more, nothing less. Maybe that's just the food scene here in NI. Certainly lots of room for improvement

Had yet another sublime meal at Shu. A severe food allergy was accommodated with such ease it puts most other restaurants to shame. As is always the case the service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. We’ve been many times before and look forward to many more in the future
Be the first to ReplyExcellent fine dining experience in Belfast! Not to be missed!
Shu is a superb restaurant - one of the very best in Belfast. I don’t think it gets as much attention as Ox or Deane’s due to its location further out from the city centre, but rest assured this place is worth the trip. The food is exquisite, showcasing the very best of fine dining techniques that elevate meals from tasty to beautiful. A particular favourite is their signature salt and chilli squid - its sublime. Their cocktails are also high quality and refined. The staff are very friendly and the food is served quickly. Shu also has some classy, but funky decor, that really makes you excited to be there. Great place for and excellent foodie experience!

My husband and myself just had Sunday lunch We have never been here before. Wonderful ambiance. Extremely friendly saff. Served by Brian who was very knowledgeable in his wine selection. Such a great young man, nothing was a problem. Food was amazimg. I selected the lamb whilst my hubby had the roast beef cooked to our liking. Fabulous flavour and beautiful presentation. Serve excellent. Michael was another great member of staff. We will return with friends Just loved the berry crumble...

Me and my Mother visited Shu for our lunch. The service was excellent. Restaurant was spotless and more importantly the food was incredible. Everything was serviced fresh and honestly if was a beautiful fine dining that wasnt overpowering like some. The restaurant atmosphere was classy without being too snobby which was perfect. I look forward to returning.

We stayed nearby for a NYE's break and on the day we arrived, were looking for somewhere to eat last minute on a Thursday night. Shu managed to squeeze us in at 5.30 for an early dinner. Fabulous food and we ended up going downstairs afterwards to finish off with cocktails as we didn't want to leave!

Great food and great service. Front of house (Craig) was absolutely lovely. We arrived very early for our dinner with a large group but were allowed to enjoy a drink at the bar downstairs while we waited. All the staff were great and were so pleasant. Food was delicious and lots of good choices. Was hard to decide what I wanted. We rarely get a chance to go out anymore (kids…) and when we do we need the night to be a good one. Shu did not disappoint.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic as ever
We've been lucky to visit Shu several times over the years and it has remained consistently excellent. It is rare to find service so attentive and expert and of course the food is amazing.

Lovely spot for a romantic dinner when visiting Belfast. The staff were friendly and full of enthusiasm and their house bread was simply magic

Great service from start to finish with delicious food. Both the main restaurant upstairs and more casual dining at Jules downstairs have great welcoming feel. Food is great, service is excellent. We will be back & highly recommend Shu to all.

Ate here as a couple on Friday 30th which was a busy night. The restaurant looked really lovely from outside and was just as nice in. Seated straight away by a lovely maitre d'. Our waiter was just as good and rectified a problem he spotted before we even had to say a word. lovely ambience and the food we had was delicious. Recommend the korean chicken and lamb. Not the cheapest of nights out but with the awards they've won it's to be expected. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent Resturant in Belfast. Lovely lunch Christmas menu was on and we had squid, steak tartare then both had halibut for mains. Food quality and service was excellent. Definitely will be back 😊
Be the first to ReplyService very slow but perhaps to be expected in December
We visited for a group Christmas dinner in early December. Restaurant downstairs was quite cold as were the bathrooms 🥶 our starter and main courses were lovely but the meringue dessert was very sweet and I wasn’t able to eat it. Didn’t look very appealing either. There was an excellent drinks list especially the wines. The service was very slow with it taking over an hour for starters to arrive and then another hour for our mains. We would visit again as the food was great when it arrived but probably not in December
