Wine bar with what I'd consider a Szechuan / Japanese
Wine bar with what I'd consider a Szechuan / Japanese fusion menu. Super thoughtful restaurant. Walked in on a weeknight and were seated immediately. Menu has about fifteen items. It's tapas style and everything was intriguing, so we decided to order the chef's choice tasting menu. Menu was one of the most creative I've encountered. It was a cold night, so we started with a cup of hot tea. They had a green tea and a red oolong. I had the green tea and was impressed with the quality which set high expectations for the meal. The first course included the scallion puffs, the deviled tea eggs, and the (I believe) squash salad. Puffs came with a green scallion butter which was pretty interesting. The tea eggs had a bold yet subtly smokey flavor. The salad might have been my favorite of the group. Vinegar and acid forward which balanced out the savory and saltiness of the other items in the first course. I also liked the textural contrast in the salad between the crisp squash and the crunchy crullers in the salad. Next came (intentionally) cold chicken with an herb sauce and chili oil. Sauce and oil were both very flavorful, so it was rather clever to serve the chicken cold which made it subdued allowing the other flavors to stand out. This dish was paired with toast topped with mayoed shrimp, roe, and (I believe) fennel. This was one of my favorite dishes. The structure and simplicity reminded me of a Pret sandwich but significantly elevated. Roe had a pleasant burst when biting into it. A mild flavor on the palate yet a surprisingly long finish. Next course was crispy fried rice along with sweet and sour snapper. I tasted eel with the fried rice but it appeared to be scallop. Definitely some oceanic flavor to it. Really liked the crispy bits. This was high on umami. The snapper was served over a carrot purée and topped with carrot and peppers. Second to last was the Mapo squash rice cakes. Rice cakes were soft and chewy yet had a crispy sear to them. As expected with a Mapo dish, it had spiciness to it. Another dish with some bold flavor. For dessert, we had the almond osmanthus cake with buttercream served with a pear sorbet. The sorbet had candied ginger providing a surprising brightness to the course. The sweetness was surprisingly mild making it an unexpected finish. Pacing of the courses was nice. Nice breaks in between to chat with your companion(s) and appreciate their wines. Service was helpful and accommodating. There was one gender neutral restroom. It was handicap accessible and had a Toto washlet toilet enhancing the experience.

What I love about Silver Apricot is the "let the chef decide" option. We didn't have to think about what to order and we were served a bunch of selections from the menu to share, without the decision making. I appreciated that it led to me trying dishes I typically wouldn't order. The wine menu, particularly the natural wines, is very extensive. It seems like they rotate wines which is fun! The restaurant is small, though they have a back patio area. Reservations are easy to snag a few days in advance.
Be the first to ReplyWe liked everything we ate and found the dishes a little
We liked everything we ate and found the dishes a little inventive and non-traditional. The portions are not huge, but they were fine for splitting with another person and each getting a couple bites. We were a party of two and had 8 dishes (thats including dessert) and left full. We didn't need more, but could have tired one more thing if we wanted. With a glass of wine each our bill ended up $100 a person with tip. We ordered the Scallion Puffs, Mogwa Salad, Turnip Cakes, Mushoo Mushrooms, Mapo Squash Rice Cakes and the Buvette Steak. I would order all of it again, but my favorite was the Rice Cakes and my partner loved the Turnip Cake. The Mushoo Mushrooms were a close second and I also loved the Mogwa salad. The steak was under done for our taste, we like Medium Rare and I would say this was very rare/uncooked in the center. It tasted good, and I would order it again but ask for it to be slightly more done. The main reason I give Silver Apricot 4 instead of 5 stars is that the service was just fine - cool, not warm and inviting. It wasn't really a hospitality vibe, and I didn't feel like they were out to make us have the best night we could. It was more like, we are doing our job and thats enough. I feel like a warmer and more thoughtful and engaged service would really help make this a special night. The restaurant is cute and small and felt a touch Parisian in decor to me. Good for a date night, although not much privacy between tables (as a NYer I'm used to that). I definitely suggest going. I'm sure we will be back.

Terrific food, good cocktails, solid service -- highly recommend this excellent spot for a date night!
Be the first to ReplyThe food is okay but far too overpriced.
The scallion puffs are the only redeeming factor about my entire meal there. The Peking duck grilled cheese is 100% not worth the price, a complete rip-off (see attached). The crudo is completely average and is not all that special. The soy milk marinade flavor just doesn't come together all that much. If you decide to go just get the scallion puffs only.

We had a lovely meal, with amazing service, but the price/person of the family style menu did not provide enough food to leave us feeling satiated. We had also asked for a bottle of wine and gave the wait staff our price limit. When we got our bill, the bottle of wine was more expensive than what we had requested. I would return but pay closer attention to the prices and would not order family style.

Silver Apricot Food 8/10 An interesting take on Chinese cuisine. It did taste good, a recombination of familiar flavors, but also the price tag that came along with makes me view this restaurant as a one-time experience. I really liked the chicken and scallion puffs, but I do also think there is no need to return when there are plenty of amazing restaurants in Chinatown that serve authentic Chinese food. Atmosphere 9/10 Gorgeously decorated interior, I loved the space. A very narrow and long restaurant, with not too many seatings. I liked the pillows. Service 9/10 Good service, nothing to complain about.

RUN DON'T WALK !! Everything we tried was to die for -- scallion puffs with butter, kampachi crudo, peking duck grilled cheese, scallop XO fried rice, and the mushrooms. I don't know how they do it, but everything is so flavorful and super creative. 11/10

Had the family tasting menu which were all Asian fusion inspired. Pretty creative and we're playing around with some unique flavors. The stars were the scallion bread with scallion butter and the teboki.

Incredible, creative, tasty, unique food with a super attentive and kind staff. Like nothing you have ever tasted before....Such a quaint beautiful setting in the West Village. I will for sure be back every time I go to NYC. Love love love! Highly recommend! *some of the photos are of dishes I already dug into before taking the pic:)*
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, salty and the portions tiny.
Though I do enjoy a good fusion it was too gimmicky for me. I would consider trying again if the prices weren't so extortionate. My friends and I had to eat again afterwards as we were still hungry after the meal.

Silver Apricot is a tiny Chinese-American fusion spot on Cornelia. Came for dinner and had a solid meal. My friend and I shared:+ Scallion puffs + Mushu roasted cabbage+ Sausage and garlic crispy bits fried rice+ Cauliflower and truffle dumplings + Peking grilled cheese+ General tso's broccolini+ Chili garlic prawn potato gratin + Citrus dessert+ Pumpkin cake + Also grabbed a Lunar new year cookie tin to goThe scallion puffs were my favorite, followed by the fried rice and grilled cheese. Service was great and the vibe was nice and intimate.

An American twist on classic Chinese dishes! As someone who grew up eating more traditional Chinese food, I was excited and nervous to try Silver Apricot. All of the dishes on the menu are ones you'd see at a Chinese restaurant but Silver Apricot has their own take on each one. The presentation of all the dishes were delightfully done. For 2 people, they recommended 6-8 dishes so we ordered 6 and were pretty full at the end. I wasn't a fan of the mapo squash rice cakes (too tangy for me) but I would recommend the scallion puffs and the Mongolian strip! Definitely a little on the pricier side for Chinese food but nice every once in a while. The restaurant itself is quite small - each table is cozily set up next to one another. It's quite subtle and hidden but the interior is more elegant and modern. Not bad for a date night! The service was just okay. I think they try to serve the dishes based on your table's pace but for us, the dishes were brought out in 2 groups of 3. I think I would come back to try the Peking duck grilled cheese and some of the other fun dishes on the menu!

A delicious Chinese-style tapas place where the dishes are unique and deliciously rich!We shared 5 dishes: scallion puffs, deviled tea eggs, cold "mouthwatering" chicken, peking grilled cheese, and sausage and garlic crispy bits fried rice. The peking grilled cheese was a definite favorite- the "bread" was a flakey pancake and the inside was oH so rich. There were also tiny serrano peppers on top that were a great complement to the duck! Overall, delicious dishes were smaller than desired (but maybe that's just cause they were so good HA)!

This spot was incredible for dinner! It was intimate and the service was great. The food we had was creative and so tasty !!! We got the scallion puffs (this is a must order), the mushroom cucumber salad, the truffle cauliflower dumplings, general tso's broccolini, and mapo squash rice cakes (last two a must order as well!!!). Everything was so great here can't wait to come back!!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful neighborhood.
Nice quick walk from the subway station. Surrounding area is lively and lots to see. Service was amazing from greetings to the waiter. They were friendly and attentive. Great place to hang out with friends and family. Also perfect for a date. No loud obnoxious noise/music where you can't hear each other. Outdoor dining is gorgeous. Lovely garden area with heat lamps all around. Now the food... it was ok. I guess some may label it as innovative? I dunno. Nothing amazing or terrible. Identity crisis maybe. Expect to pay $$$ but this is in-line with the neighborhood. Truly wished I appreciated the food more. But lovely experience overall.

3.5/5 but rounded up to a 4 my friend suggested i check out silver apricot when i told him i've been trying to get a rez at bonnie's for ages. he said this was a similar concept but he preferred it to bonnie's which was reason enough for me to try this spot out. i made a rez here a few weeks ago but had a change in plans and couldn't make it so was thrilled when they were able to accommodate us when we popped in at 9pm on a wednesday. everything had great flavor but i don't think were ready for how heavy it'd be. since it's tapas style plates, they said for 2 ppl they recommend 6 dishes. we got 4 bc we weren't too hungry and it was late. they were out of the deviled eggs which sounded amazing but looking over the reviews now, glad we didn't cause it looks like it'd be heavy. we got the scallion puffs, fluke crudo, peking grilled cheese and grilled romaine w shramps.scallion puffs: 7/10the concept is original but we found it to be really salty and rich. the scallion butter on the side was delicious!fluke crudo: 9/10best dish we ordered. super fresh great balance of flavors!peking grilled cheese: 7/10great flavor but super heavy and saucy! the pancake holding the duck was soggy with grease.grilled romaine w shramps: 7/10shramps were a solid 9, a little overcooked but good flavor. the romaine and topping were delicious but the entire thing was drowning in its miso dressing.service was super friendly and amazing and the reason i rounded up the 3.5 to a 4! the restaurant itself is cozy and small and has a very 70's feel!after eating here, i wouldn't say it's comparable to bonnie's as this is a chinese resty and bonnie's is canto. i haven't have bonnie's yet but from the looks of it, i'd compare it to potluck club in LES which is an amazing fusion-y canto spot!
Be the first to ReplyWe randomly stumbled upon this place while walking around.
The ambiance was great. We went on a random weekday night and there were only a couple other tables there, so it was a quieter night. Our waiter gave us great recommendations and pointed out all of the vegetarian dishes. There are PLENTY of vegetarian options! The wine list was well curated. I tried one of the orange wines, which I really enjoyed. The star of the show were the scallion puff bread rolls! Omg maybe one of the best bread rolls I've tried. The cucumber and mushroom dish and the peanuts were also delicious. I think we ordered every veggie dish except the cabbage and I was pretty full! Can't wait to come back!

Greatly enjoyed our meal here! The food was delicious (we ordered a smattering of what was on the menu and the waiter guided us well on our selections). Also had some solid vegetarian-friendly options!Only reason for 4 stars vs. 5 is that, during an early meal when we were the only patrons in the outdoor area, the music was quite loud and they refused to adjust it when we asked politely.
Be the first to ReplyOverall really nice.
Favorite dishes were the scallion puffs and the Mongolian beef. The potato gratin dish with caviar was cool too, but honestly sort of strange. I liked this place a lot and found their dishes pretty inventive, albeit a bit small. Drinks were good; our waiter was really kind and affable and made the dinner much more enjoyable. Not the type of place I usually go to, but a nice experience.

I was here with a group of five and therefore we had to order from the family-style menu. The food was mediocre, and not particularly interesting or flavorful. It was vastly overpriced given the quality.
Be the first to ReplyEverything is salty.
Flavor is good though. But it is fusion chinese food. Atmosphere is nice but it's small inside.
Be the first to ReplyThis was a great dining experience! Went with some
This was a great dining experience! Went with some co-workers on a Thursday evening. We wanted to sit outside and they have a back "garden" area that sits about 3 groups of 4 and was covered and very cute (although if it's raining, don't leave your stuff in the corner because it leaks a little). All sharing courses and it's relatively small so you probably want to order at least 2-3 dishes per person. We had 4 people and ordered 8 dishes and we probably could have eaten a little more. We got (in the order of favorites):- Scallion puffs (fluffy, savory, delicious)- Sausage & garlic crispy bits fried rice (the sausage was really tasty and made the fried rice really decadent)- Grilled Black Bass (crunchy skin, tender fish, delicious sauce)- General Tso's Broccolini (really intereting, complex flavors)- Pork belly brussel sprouts (probably some of the best brussel sprouts I've had. Really great flavors. They do reallt wonderful sauces)- Cucumber salad (tangy, crunchy, slightly sweet)- Mushroom crispy bits fried rice (not as good as the sausage rice in comparison. Good, not great)- Butternut Mapo Tofu (interesting texture and decent but probably the least favorite)We ordered primarily vegetarian dishes because one of the people was vegetarian but they had a lot of great vegetarian dishes. They seem to really excel in sauces and know how to take familiar flavors and elevate them. Now I can look forward to other good options next time I go. Great spot in a City full of amazing options. Really enjoyed the service and ambiance and of course the food.

The most creative, varied, East-Meets-West fusion spot in ALL OF NYC!I recommend the peashoots (a traditional, often-used-at-home ingredient), and the trout crudo (though it was a bit bland..) But the menu has so many knock-outs!I loved the concept, the diversity of old-chinese flair and new world boldness. Tapas and drinks were perfect to share with friends! Best Asian Tapas, that isn't Dim Sum!
