I love this restaurant, we have been for breakfast and lunch, I hope they reopen soon it has always been our favourite choice especially for special occasions. A much loved restaurant…
Be the first to ReplyStep into British history
A great experience. Definitely an occasional joint, £45 for a roast dinner is racy, but the pomp and tradition are what you come for. I felt the staff could do more to draw you into the theatre of it all, they were quite standoffish and not super engaged, but I guess that is just London!

First visit 1958. 2nd visit 2002. Still fabulous. Side of beef on a cart. Always want to return. Last time in London April 2022, but didn’t make it to Simpson’s. Considering special trip from Los Angeles.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome but shut
As good as it aways was but has been shut since late 2020. No idea why but a huge loss. Had alway been outrageously ggod prior to this
Be the first to ReplyGreat place, but please reopen soon?
We generally visited for Sunday lunch a few times a year, and used to really look forward to it. I also did a carving course there once, which was great. But it has been closed now since March 2020 (I believe?) with no sign of re-opening. We emailed them and they basically said maybe in early 2022!
Please re-open soon! We miss our Sunday Lunches!
Service that befits the history
Booked in advance for this iconic City of London establishment. Booking is essential as the restaurant is much in demand. Ordered the Barnsly chop with bubble and squeak and field mushrooms. The lamb was perfect with the fat rendered to perfection. Our waiter was Kristian who was very attentive and together with the barman ran the whole room. Taking into account the drinks we had at £75 for 2 people fantastic value for money. Just a pleasure to dine here.
Be the first to Reply90th birthday simpsons in the strand
Back in January 2020 we went to simpsons in the strand London for my wife’s Nan 90th birthday. The place was amazing I felt really special there. We first sat upstairs in a bar area and they came up to us to ask us what we wanted to drink and were very polite. We then proceeded downstairs to the main room for our dinner, the hall was amazing to look at and again the staff were brilliant friendly and looked after us very well. We were lucky enough to be sat next to the grand piano so in the background we had some beautiful music playing while eating and talking. The food was excellent and went down a treat . This is a place I would recommend highly to visit and we will be visiting again as soon as possible. A great meal out .
Be the first to ReplyThe Quintessential British roast
We returned to Simpsons, for the best roast beef dinner in any restaurant, in the UK possibly the world, of course not quite as good as mum used to make, but nearly.
If you want the best service, and the best roast beef, then simpsons is the restaurant, it has charm and atmosphere that is so hard to find now in the UK.
The beef is brought to your table by a master carver, on a antique silver domed trolley, and then carved in front of you.
We have had dinner there many times.
Thay also have a cocktail bar, but we normally go to the American cocktail bar next door in the Savoy Hotel,as Simpsons is also part of the Savoy.
If you whant perfection, and surrounded by hundreds of years of Quintessential British charm, then you should go to Simpsons, to see how it should be done.
We can't wait to return.
This is the gold standard for roast beef
I unexpectedly met an old friend in London. He was visiting from Auckland and I was down from Cheshire. I had been wanting an occasion to visit Simpson’s and this was it.
We were found a table and shown the menu. The we chose from both the a la carte and early evening menu. The service was absolutely perfect from arriving all the way through the meal. Courteous, attentive at all times but not intrusive.
Lobster Bisque was superb. The roast beef main was sensational and theatrical. This is the roast beef meal to set the standard by without question.
Must visit!
We had a fantastic evening at Simpson’s, truly memorable. The decor is beautiful, the food outstanding and staff amazingly attentive, friendly and just want to please. Loved every minute. Hope to return very soon.

Some refer to Simpsons as an "Institution" but it is much more than that and in my view the finest restaurant for lunch in London.
The style is Edwardian at its best and the food and service simply excellent..
It is hard to choose other than the superb beef dishes, but there is so much more choice and all of the highest quality.
My prime recommendation is to take your time and expect at least 2 hours over lunch to savour the food and the atmosphere.
