Wine and steak
Amazing wine list with lots of US and EU options, but limited cheaper options. Steak is great (also with the spinach) and the carrot cake is famous.... And massive!

Very classy restaurant that harkens back to a bygone era. The cocktails are perfect, their signature prime rib with homemade horseradish sauce was perfect as was the service. Great dining experience.

We had to wait for 20 minutes while the table was actually ready: it is only when I asked for the third times that we were brought to our table. Steaks are excellent but medium rare cooking is closer to rare. Service was very poor and quite unfriendly. Disappointing experience overall

Way too expensive food, and very noisy in the room. We had to sit and shout at each other. The tables are far too small. The toilets were not clean. All in all, this does not hold up compared to the crazy price.
Be the first to Reply5+star for venue, service, food absolutely perfect!
This place is top notch. The service was ๐ฏ, food excellent with unbelievable portions and house wine the nicest we've ever had. We loved it so much and our experience there with the staff was exceptional. We ended up going back two days later for lunch and that was excellent too. Nicest steak we ever tasted and we still talk about it some years later. We are heading to Smyth and Wollensky London on Friday and so excited. This restaurant is by far one of the best restaurants in NYC, can't wait to see what London has in store. 5+++++ stars - magnificent! We were on holidays from Ireland in NYC for 10 days and when we get back you'll be the first place we'll visit. ๐๐ฎ๐ช๐

Came to this spot on an unplanned dinner. Made reservations at the restaurant and ended up at the 'grill' which is the bar section of the restaurant. Albeit very very crowded... the service was great as well as the food. Victor & Matt were our waiters who obviously have the best Manager in the world @ Jeff ( no this isn't a paid advertisement lol). Our food suggestions: *Crab cakes *Margharitas *Lamb chops *Lemon chicken *Fresh Spinach ( I asked for it to be cooked with garlic but maybe they cook it like that Anyway) tasty! *Clam chowder ( delicious but it has bacon) We felt very welcome as first timers. Our waiters were as awesome as the food. By the way.... don't be fooled by the appetizer portions (they're modest) ... Dinner portions and sides are huge! Thank you for an enjoyable dinner. Will be back!

We went on a Thursday night for the 'weekend' wine and dine offer which for $95 dollars per person provides 'copious' amounts of wine and 3 courses which does not include sides. There was a choice of prosecco, rose, red or white wine. The latter two were undrinkable but the first two were nice. Food, calamari very good served with a very nice tomato sauce, good bread basket and our other starter of tomato with mozzarella was good but nothing to write home about. Sirloin steak again good but nothing to write home about, lemon pepper chicken ok, jacket potato with all the 'fixings' actually very tasty and the hash browns, 'meh'. Our waiter was a very nice gentleman who was running about like a madman but at no point were our glasses allowed to get even near empty and he checked we were happy on every course. So why such an average score. Well the final bill came to $291 dollars and we were squeezed onto a table which although it was for four and there were only two of us, only just fitted us and our food on it. Our table was so close to the one behind that myself and a diner behind me could not move without our chairs hitting each other. The noise level was so loud it was actually uncomfortable and everyone seemed to be quite drunk and I suppose the best description I can give is that there seemed a 'pressure to enjoy yourself as loudly and as brashly as possible with lots of testosterone in the air. This place does not even have a modicum of finesse, which at those prices is surprising, there are no quiet cosy corners in which to enjoy a dinner for two but it does what it says on the tin - but only that.

We had a very enjoyable dinner in the food was excellent. They were extremely busy and the volume level in the dining room was excessively loud. If you are looking for a place to have an intimate dinner, this is not the place. That said, my steak was cooked perfectly and the accompanying were excellent. The waiter did a great job considering the busy night.

Having previously dined at S&W for New Year's Eve 2021/22 and had a fantastic experience, we decided to do the same thing this year 2023/24 on our recent trip to NYC. Although we had an overall good evening, it sadly did not quite live up to our expectations. Upon arrival our table was not ready and we had to wait in the bar which was (expectedly for NYE) very crowded. Once shown to our table, our server was great and very informative on the menu. We had a 9pm seating and aimed to stagger our courses so that we could celebrate midnight at the restaurant. As a party of 4, for starters 1 had the calamari which was OK, another had the shrimp cocktail which was good, and then 2 of us shared the Smith's Bouquet (cold seafood). The Bouquet was fantastic with generous, juicy prawns, crab and lobster and delicious homemade tomato sauce and horseradish. For mains, 1 had the lamb chops which were OK and 3 of us had Bone-In Rib Steaks which were all undercooked and had to be sent back. These were then returned to use but hadn't been rested so our steaks were swimming in blood, oil and fat which didn't make the eating experience pleasant. The mains in general were also over-seasoned and especially salty. The sides of creamed spinach and steamed asparagus were delicious. At midnight the staff shared round some celebratory hats and a glass of prosecco which was a lovely gesture and a great way to start the new year. Overall, we had a memorable evening although the mains didn't quite live up to our expectations being undercooked, served in juices, and overly salty.

Great food, drinks and desserts. Bit expensive but it is worth it. The service was perfect. I'll come back, hopefully soon.

We tried the wine weekend menu and really enjoyed it, three delicious courses and plenty of wine ๐ The burrata was great as was the sirloin steak so very happy Service was very good
Be the first to ReplySlow service but good food.
Went to dinner here with my wife and another couple . Disappointing service โ initially ignored then eventually got our drinks . Food was good and steaks were well prepared . About 30 minutes after we ordered the waiter returned to say they were out of mashed potatoes . This was below their normally solid level of customer service .

Prime rib steak was supposed to be the steak. It was not! It was bloody and chewy (even though I ordered it medium), and it wasnโ t spiced at all. Mashes potatoes were runny. Thereโs definitely favoritism there, as people at the table next to us were treated differently and got more attention. Altogether, quite a disappointment! And theyโre supposed to be the best! Beware!

I was recommended to try this restaurant and as a steak lover I thought I'd give it as go despite the fact that its family pricey. I read somewhere that "If steak was a religion, this would be it's cathedral" and I nor know what this means. Not only was he food the best I've ever eaten, the experience of the visit was unlike anything I've ever experienced (see photos) I had Clams casino as a starter and my wife had Crab cakes and we followed this with Lemon Sole and the bone-in rib steak. I am embarrassed to say that couldn't even finish it and they were kind enough to pack up our dessert to take home. At all times out glasses were never allowed to drop below half on the wine and dinner weekend deal. On top of all that, it felty like dining in a restaurant from the Sopranos or something similar with large families of locals enjoying the place which has to be a good sign, Capiche? My advice is book well in advance and get there on time as these tables are in demand.

I have been here on a number of occasions so it has become a must go back if in New York. There are many other great restaurants but I always enjoy the food and the service. It is always busy and buzzing. See you next time.

Booked in advance in England prior to our trip to New York about a month in advance. Booking taken. Specific time given. Reminder sent. Got there on time. Utter carnage. Pushing, shoving, people waiting everywhere, hot tempers, tears and tantrums. Gave it 40 minutes stood in the entrance, no chance of getting to the bar. Walked out in disgust as it was obvious we were not going to get our table. My advice. Donโt go. Over booked and probably over rated. They need to remember customers, smith and Wollensky obviously donโt care
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service, food okay
Went in for lunch. The service is excellent, waiters very fast and friendly. Ordered the mixed green salad for starter, it was more of a Caesar salad than mixed greens. For the main course I had salmon which was very tasty. I recommend the salmon but not the salad. Ambiance is good.
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience and steak was pretty good too!
I've often been to New York but hadn't been to Smith and Wollensky's so visited on March 3rd. From the lively ambience of the bar for pre-dinner beer to the excellent fare it was a super post covid experience. Staff and decor give this place an authentic look and surprisingly, for such a well know venue, it was less expensive that we'd expected. Great night, great experience. thank you.

We went there for dinner last minute. We are at the bar. The bar tender was great! We had oysters that were big and delicious, the steak perfectly cooked. The cheese cake was perfect.
Be the first to ReplyService always 7/10. Was that horse??
I have to say the past few visits have been ok. This was horrible. Not the service. The steak. Sucked. Period. Rib eye. Bone in. ZERO FLAVOR. I am happy to talk to anyone about it. We always go MR on temp and cooked perfectly and this had NO FLAVOR. We left more than half for two of us tonight because it was more than lackluster. $79. Iโll stick with Halls.
