Birthday dinner was not a hit
We made a reservation for 4 for my daughter's 28th birthday. We arrived 10 minutes early and were seated immediately. Our server and two others asked about the kind of water we wanted. We placed orders for wine and an appetizer and received bread. We placed orders. The appetizer of arancini arrived. (Very small balls of 5.) Someone asked if we wanted more bread and we said we did want more. Never got any. Food arrived. No one ever followed up. No more water ever offered. No more wine ever offered. No refill on the $4 soda. Daughter thought her pork and risotto was not great. The risotto was more like tasteless macaroni and cheese. My fresh fish dish was good. My husband's and other daughter's food was good. However, for a $200 meal the service was not good. We passed on dessert as we didn't want to spend more money for less service.

Loud location with airplanes going overhead. If that matters to you. We sat outside and the chairs were not very comfortable. My food rating below: Bruschetta: 5/10- its an assemble your own which some people might like. There are three types of items to put on top. None stood out. Pico di pizza: 5.5/10- thick noodles, good flavor but nothing I would recommend
Be the first to ReplyA great Italian restaurant
Been to Liberty Station before, but first time at Solare. What an amazing restaurant! We are making the transition to a vegetarian diet (with some seafood on occasion), and the Pici co' Brici was fantastic. My wife had the Linguine Alle Vongole, and she enjoyed it as well. The Cesar salad up front and Mousse al Cioccolato for dessert rounded out our perfect meal. The owners were very gracious, and the service was top notch as well. The wine list was excellent as well (and you can take home what you don't finish). We would definitely go back, but this is a special place, with prices to match, so we will save for special occasions (or special friends as we did).

Tremendous business dinner. Excellent service, food, wine and dessert. I really enjoyed the pappardelle bolognese. It was excellent and spicy. It paired well with Petraโs HEBO (Super Tuscan). Dessert was incredible.

Make sure you don't go to this restaurant if you're having an important get together make sure you don't go for any type of celebration birthdays etc they will make sure to ruin your night, completely irresponsible, they need to get out of the restaurant business......
Be the first to ReplyMichelin guide is deserved!
This place is great! Service was top notch and the food was even better! We started with the black truffle arancini, which was amazing! We could have eaten 20 of those! We also had the Bolognese, the spinach and cheese ravioli (all pastas are handmade!), and the beef medallions. Every bite was beyond delicious! Can't wait to go back next time we are in San Diego!

The decor is quite nice, the service was friendly and very good. The wine recommendations where right on point. The food was not so good. Catch of the day came in raw. The scallop risotto was flat and in need of flavor. The dark chocolate with cookies was also a miss. The fried seafood appetizer was good, the red sauce was not. The cheese plate with charcuterie was ok. Mixed bag.
Be the first to ReplyGenuine quality, creativity and service for lovers of the good life. Closest we have seen to original Italian food!
Randy and his team do an absolute brilliant job. Food was exquisite, flavorful, original and above all fresh ingredients. Superb wine choices. Great location, nice buzz without being too much. The restaurant and veranda feel homey. A place not to be missed for those enjoying culinary delights with fine drinks and wines and professional but genuine service. - HE/ Mt.Helix 7/2021

When you need a special place to dine or celebrate with friends or business partners,
Solare should be on top of your list.
We had a wonderful experience, celebrating my wifeโs birthday there.
Their timing and guidance were perfect along with the delicious meals they prepared.
Their โ Events Director and Wine Specialistโ Petra Belliti , made sure that the entire evening was seamless.
Grazie Solare for a great evening.

Wonderful Dinner!
Six of us had Pepperoni Pizza, Bruchetta, Lasagna, Linguine, Risotto, Squash Soup, and Pappardelle. Every dish was tasty and delicious!
For dessert, we had Chocolate Mousse, Creme Brulee and Panacotta. We were not disappointed by the 3 desserts. One of us had a frappucino.
Solar is a great place to celebrate something
Went for the reviews. The food was subpar.
When I first arrived, I felt that the ambience was nice and welcoming. I made a reservation in advance for my birthday. We were sat right by the bar where there were people drinking and being super loud. It was difficult to enjoy my meal. I ordered the lasagna and I could have honestly made it better at home. My husband ordered ravioli and Olive Garden's is honestly better. I have been to many italian restaurants and this was by far the worst quality food I've had. The server knew it was my birthday and I didn't receive anything. Not a piece of dessert or scoop of ice cream.
Considering the service and quality of food, will not be going back.
A safe return to restaurant dining with excellent food and service.
Two weeks ago I took my mom to Solare for her birthday dinner. I had reserved a table on the lawn and it was perfect for our first time eating at a restaurant in over a year. Staff took all precautions to keep us safe and the tables on the lawn are a perfect way to feel comfortable eating at restaurants again. Our food was delicious and our service was excellent.
I loved my 1st experience at Solare so much that I returned today to celebrate my anniversary. It was my husband's 1st time eating at a restaurant and Solare hit it out of the park with a safe environment in a lovely setting. The service was excellent and attentive. We never had to ask for anything because the service anticipated our needs. The food was excellent. I started with the frito of shrimp and vegetables. It came with calamari, but for an reasonable upcharge I could switch it all shrimp. It was delicious. My husband had the arugula and pear salad which was great. They bring warm bread with olive oil for dipping to your table which is very tasty. My husband loved his pappardelle pasta dish. Solare also has a good selection of beer, wine and cocktails. I can't remember the kind of beer my husband got, but he really enjoyed it. If you are looking for a wonderful meal in a safe environment, I highly recommend Solare.
Delicious food, superb service !!
The food is excellent and refreshingly imaginative. the food is unforgettable! The service was superb. Everyone was gracious even though we had arrived without a reservation on a holiday weekend. Our waitress was impeccably attentive, but not overbearing. Overall it was a truly delightful evening and I recommend it highly.
Be the first to ReplyButternut Squash Soup
I first was introduced to Solare by working a fundraiser event that featured their signature organic butternut squash soup infused with a hint of white chocolate and it blew me away. Thanks to that I was on their email list but never got over for any of the wine tastings. Then the pandemic hit and like other restaurants Solare had to change things up a bit. So for a time they had "Bread by Brian" as a pop-up for Saturday mornings. I got the fried egg breakfast slider with beef bacon on a wonderful roll and a beef bacon pao and couldn't pass up the cinnamon bite. Also on special was a Bloody Maria made with Tequila & a house mix garnished with bacon & olives. As usual I ordered too much food. The cinnamon "bite" was a full size cinnamon roll with mascarpone icing which I decided to just take to go. It was all so delicious and luckily I was able to get a pint of the butternut squash soup to go as well. Dinner here would be a real treat as this family owned & operated Italian Restaurant has won awards and is listed in the Michelin guide. I felt it was really special sitting out on the patio enjoying this Saturday morning at Liberty Station. Thank you Randy & your team.
