SOLE Seafood & Grill Dublin 2 Reviews from The Last Year
Overpriced look elsewhere
Over priced for quality of food although staff very helpful The mussels to start were the smallest I’ve ever seen !! Much better options in this fantastic city
A good local place for seafood
Friends recommended Sole and we're glad they did. The food was fresh and service was fine. We thoroughly enjoyed our last meal in Dublin.
SOLE Brought some Soul
A friend of mine recommended this place. She was spot on with the recommendation. The staff was quick and very helpful. Palo did a wonderful job as my server. FYI, if you want the tasting menu for that day make sure to be there at least 2 hours before they close. Unfortunately I missed out because of that, but Palo made winning suggestions on the food and wine choices.
Super Sole dining experience
Again, thank you all at Sole Seafood & Grill. Another great dining and dining experience. From being greeted by Jacquie and Oskar to server Jane, we had a wonderful evening. Thanks so much. Keep up the amazing hospitality.
TOTAL SUCCESS
While on vacation in Dublin we saw the restaurant and went in to reserve a table. The girl who greeted us when we entered made a reservation for another day and we went there. Comfortable restaurant, separate and quiet tables. Very good attention from the waiters and also without knowing English we were lucky because they knew Spanish Very varied menu in both meat and seafood, very extensive wine list that you don't know which one to order, and tasty, high-quality food. Very delicious and very well prepared desserts
Disappointing and Tasteless
Such a shame. The Good: The restaurant looks the part and the staff were very attentive. The sides/accoutrements were good! The Unforgivable: However, the fish was just BLAND and TASTELESS! It was as though the kitchen forgot to season it completely. Never actually had an experience quite like it! For a specialist seafood restaurant in a port city this was just so unbelievably underwhelming. The mussels in particular had zero taste! When a waiter asked us about our meal, we were actually very candid about how tasteless the fish was. No apology was offered. Instead we were told something to the effect of "I'm from Norway and sometimes fish just doesn't taste that much." I don't believe the waiter intended to sound so patronising, but sadly that's how it felt. We refrained from telling him that we hailed from the coastal North East of England and so were quite used to fish and seafood...! We left feeling thoroughly disappointed.
Stunning!
We had been looking forward to trying this place as last time we were in Dublin we didn't book soon enough so couldn't get a table. We weren't disappointed - the service was excellent, Ari was really attentive and took time to explain each dish and each wine. We had the tasting menu and one of us had the wine flight. It was incredible - food was amazing, the wine superb and Ari made it really special. Will definitely come again!
Consistently serves the goods.
Never had a bad experience at Sole. Opted for the set menu as i was there at 5pm. A generous portion of mussels for a starter on a set menu, followed by monkfish. They have a great wine selection by the glass but as usual, I find champagne accompanys everything. Would highly recommend, book in advance and sometimes can grab a space at the counter if dining solo.
Absolutely amazing
This restaurant is fabulous. We had a varity of starters and mains and none of them dissaponted. The service was absolutely amazing as well so a huge thank you to Vasile and Bogdan that took care of any request we had. As well, if you come here to dine, definitely try the Lemon cheesecake dessert cocktail as that was the best drink I've ever tried.
Fabulous place for fish and shellfish lovers!
Had lunch there with my best friend during st Patrick’s week end! Staff extremely welcoming and young staff were all doing a great job in learning the ropes which was nice to see! The decor is fabulous and the restaurant offers a great lunch menu for a very affordable price! Had the scallop as a starter and a fish dish for main all exquisite, delicious and nicely presented! ! Absolutely loved this place so would highly recommend and would certainly come back again!
Amazing evening at Sole
Where to begin? We live close to NYC so we are a bit spoiled with fabulous restaurants close by. Had read about SOLE and decided to try while spending a week in a Dublin. Was easy to get Thursday night reservations. Had a high top table surrounding the bar area. Super comfy and really liked the ambiance of Sole. Service could not have been better - constantly attended to and even the host came by several times to check on us. Our family enjoyed a few of the oysters, the fish and chips, the scallops and the amazing fish deboned table side. We all loved our entrees and were outstanding. Even made room for a lemon tart to share. Cocktails were spot on and left wanting to come back another night just to try other items on the menu. Excellence all around and we can’t wait to get back to Dublin to dine again!

Wonderful food and service! The caviar sampling was a great add to our meal. Definitely a must visit restaurant in Dublin.
Sole Excellence
Sole offers an amazing dining experience with professional and friendly service from start to finish. The food was exceptional in taste and presentation. The menu offers plenty of choice for fish seafood and meat lovers alike...wine list was fantastic with all tastes and budgets catered for... Highly recommend this gem of a restaurant in centre of Dublin ❤️
Tasting menus and wine delicious
What an amazing place - we opted for the tasting menu - and the wine pairing to go with it. My favourite always the sea bad topped with foi gras - an unusual combination but it worked perfectly! What a lovely way to spend the evening - a right treat
Lovely Setting!
The BEST! wish it were in Los Angeles...out table was a high one with high chairs which were easy to get up on and comfortable...restaurant atmosphere is subtle as there are sheer draped curtains surrounding several tables so you feel private...staff is excellent and the food? Yummy great tasty fabulous and so much fun!
Busy, reliable and good food
A busy, city centre spot that will not disappoint. While Sole specializes in fish and seafood, it also does meats. With several sitting per night, we had the early pre theatre menu and it offered good value. Service was good and overall we had a nice experience.
Sole - Early Bird menu highly recommended
Gorgeous food. Got the early bird menu which was great value. Lovely fish with polenta and vegetables. Dessert was delicious. Friendly and welcoming.
good food
Excellent , Worth the visit , lovely atmosphere ,nice staff ,tasty food . Very central .Will definitely be back .The service is excellent .
A bit disappointing
Went for a Sunday birthday meal with 6 friends, the restaurant decor is very impressive and the head staff quite snooty looking in their demeanor so expectations were high. Unfortunately this didn't translate to great service at the table which was a surprise given how many staff they had on the floor. Because the food arrived sporadically and with quite a time difference, both my starter of mussels and my friends were cold, when I did begin eating it was clear that the mussels were over cooked as they were tiny and tasteless. Unfortunately things didn't get better with te mains which also appeared at intervals. The waitress laid out the mains but didn't ask who was having which dish resulting in us looking at each other for a few minuets while we worked out whose side dishes were for who. Mine turned out to belong to a friend at the other end of the table. My wife's dish went back to the kitchen to be recooked Overall the food was enjoyed by most of the party but a little attention to detail would have made a huge difference. Would we go again no, As I say the decor and fridge display are fabulous but the service and delivery just doesn't make it a must go back...
Superb at Sole!
Wonderful lunch here on Saturday. Essential to book as it is very popular. We had mussels and scallops for starter. Main course was Sea Bass, Steaks and Monk fish. Divine! Lovely staff and a great venue. Will definitely be returning.
Delicious food, helpful attentive staff
Had a fantastic meal. Oysters were amazing, Scallops, Halibut and sea bass all delicious. Staff were attentive, took time to explain dishes and were super friendly and helpful.
We found this place based on reviews and couldn't have
We found this place based on reviews and couldn't have found a more spectacular place. Right from entry everyone was friendly. The seafood chowder is a must. Best I have ever had. The crab claws, shrimp and Cesar salad were great. The ribeye was amazing. The pudding was excellent for dessert. Wine selection was also great. Server was surpreme.
We were able to get a last minute reservation when we were
We were able to get a last minute reservation when we were visiting and I am glad we did! We started with some nice old fashioned cocktails. We next moved on to some oysters. The oysters were very fresh and delicious! I tried the monkfish skewers special and it was amazing! Probably one of the best I ever had! My lady had some scallops and she was quite pleased as well. Overall great food and excellent service!
In short, this place was very good, and also very close to
In short, this place was very good, and also very close to our hotel. The Westbury. Service was certainly attentive. I had the Seabass with the Thai curry sauce, which was slightly more spicy than I expected. Also, the Seabass was a little on the thin side, although it was cooked perfectly. my wife had the special of the day which was a Fish Wellington. We've had beef Wellington before, but never with fish as the protein. It was unusual, and it was very good. The ambience was pleasant. The restaurant is actually quite large, extending far back.
The greeter, Chloe, on the evening I went in (mid-July
The greeter, Chloe, on the evening I went in (mid-July 2023), was extremely rude. I was originally too early for my reservation so I headed back out and proceeded to get lost after exiting St. Stephen's Green. While I usually have a pretty good sense of direction, I managed to get turned around and had trouble finding the restaurant again. I tried to call the restaurant to let them know I was lost but could not navigate the international call on my phone while frantically trying to find the place. When I finally made it back to the restaurant, after having to ask for directions from a couple of people, Chloe (I believe that is her name) looked me up and down as though I had come into the restaurant soaking wet. I was not soaking wet and had on proper, nice, dinner attire. The dour look on her face was not appreciated. I apologized profusely for being late but she never cracked a smile, making me feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcomed. Chloe pretty much ruined my dinner experience, a dinner I was looking forward to for several nights. For the amount this restaurant charges, I would expect a better, more professional greeting, even if I am unintentionally late (after being early).
Been wanting to try SOLE seafood for a while.
The restaurant only opens for dinner on weekdays, while lunch hours are available only in weekends. Was shopping in the area this Saturday so decided to drop in for lunch. I did not make a reservation as the party size of one single customer is not allowed to make reservations online. But I did come in as they open for lunch at 1pm, and there were plenty of seats available. I sat at a bar counter space. By around 2:30 pm the place would start to get very busy. If you have a large party size, make sure to reserve first. Environment Soft cushion seating, good quality marble surface on the bar counter, modern décor, soothing creamy yellow lights, a very comfortable place to have a meal overall. Service Friendly and attentive. One waitress took care of my order while another served bread. Made a good recommendation of white wine to go with my seafood tower. Would wish the waitress serving bread had better knowledge about the bread as she only described the two types as "brown" and "white" (I imagine one is whole wheat and the other is white bread). Drink I am not a dedicated wine person so I could not remember the type and the name of the wine served, but it was a good white wine. Fruity, citrusy but not too sour, light sweet finish, a good white wine to go with seafood. Food -Bread: took both brown and white bread. Would wish they were a bit hotter or crispier (toasted preferably). The butter tasted standard. -Entrée: Ordered the seafood tower for 80 Euros for two persons. I was having only one major meal today, and I am a gourmet, so I believed I should be able to finish it with no issue. Reality proved me wrong. The tower came with both cold and hot seafood options. Six rock oysters, a portion of smoked salmon, and a portion of prawn cocktail with iceberg lettuce constituted the cold/raw bar, and several chargrilled tiger prawns, some roasted crab claws, and a GENEROUS portion of mussels in white wine and garlic cream sauce formed the hot plate. Rock oysters: small in size, but packed with rich flavor, buttery texture start with briny finish. Went quite well with squeezed lemon juice and the house vinaigrette sauce. Smoked salmon: tasted fresh with bouncy texture and rich salmon fat flavor. Would wish for a bit heavier smoky taste. Prawn cocktails: chopped prawn meat with sauce on lettuce. Recommend a one-bite finish with all the prawn chunks and the lettuce leaf. Prawns were bouncy and savory, and the lettuce leaf added interesting texture and reduced the fishiness overall. Tiger prawns: be-headed, de-veined, shell still on, and chargrilled. Crispy, slightly charred and yellow shell on the outside, creamy prawn texture inside. Spot-on seasoning. Excellent cooking techniques. Prawn claws: shell removed for the main chunk of the crab meat. Tasted standard. A bit on the foamy side, not as creamy as the tiger prawns, but still very nice. Mussels: again, GENEROUS portion. Filled up the whole bowl. All tasted very fresh and savory. Would wish for a slightly thicker sauce base. Took me quite a while to finish them all. Overall: 4.5-5 stars. Some minor hiccups here and there, but everything else was excellent. Definitely one of the best places to have premium seafood dishes in Dublin.
This is an updated review for our visit dated 05/09/23.
The restaurant cancelled our reservation so we could not review on OpenTable for this visit. Our reservation was for 8:00pm on a Wednesday night. We sat at the bar, which is where we always reserve if available. As we've expressed in earlier reviews, we always felt rushed in ordering and we hoped it would be a better experience. Our server did not speak very good English and right from the start there was a bit of a language issue. I ordered a wine and she kept asking me if it was a cocktail. I finally had to point it out on the wine menu for her to understand. She also wanted our food order immediately when we were seated and I said I wanted to examine the menu more before we ordered. 45 minutes went by and we did not have anyone come back to us for a food or drink order. I tried to signal the bartender, but he was not interested in helping us. At 9:00 I finally went to the host stand to pay for our drinks and express our dissatisfaction. This is unacceptable service and we were treated so poorly. We try to visit this restaurant once a month and usually spend more than €200. Sole - you've lost another customer.
The food was good.
nothing outstanding. the brown bread and the dover sole were worth dining here.
We were very excited about our opportunity to have dinner
We were very excited about our opportunity to have dinner at Sole. Unfortunately all was a disappointment. From uninterested service, to the most bland dinner I've ever had, the monk fish. Service was subpar as was the food.

Banned from Resy for selling reservations- Do we have a rat on our hands???

I am new to this app and started off by selling a polo bar reservation and then quickly sold one more reservation. Not long after I received emails from Resy saying all my reservations are cancelled and I am being banned from Resy for life. How could this have possibly happened without a rat telling Resy that I sold the reservation. I need some advice on this situation and let’s catch the rat!

Yup it’s happened to me and a few others. And I believe I was baited by replying to a “bidder” and I made the rookie mistake of divulging too much information when asked 🤷♀️🙄
