What an experience! Seated on time, center dining room. Energetic, caring and articulate server. The place was abuzz. The usual dinner lines up in four courses. Among the starters includes a very good warm bread selection, and “tuna cones“ which are an unique, tasty, sesame cracker baked into a cone and stuffed with wonderful Ahi tuna. (Reportedly served each year at the Oscars.) Highly recommended. Course 2 included soup, and the peach/burrata/prosciutto, and aged hamachi, all of which were great. Here is where they lost the star. Our first two courses were brought simultaneously, essentially burying us in food, that was served, for the atmosphere and reputation, far too quickly. A rushed feeling. Sub par considering we were informed ahead of time that our “experience” will exceed 2 hours. After we finished the doublefood experience, pace did improve. While we were enjoying our time together, and starting to enjoy our shared gnocchi (course 3), we noticed that part of the reason the place was abuzz, just so you are aware, was the 6 tables (of the 20 or so) that had children under ten, including an infant and several under 5. (Do kids eat free before 7?). The atmosphere was situated comfortably between Chuck-E-Cheese and a Costco food court on Saturday afternoon. (There were several cheese pizzas and some french fries…). There were some graduations this week, such as UCLA, but I was unaware Hawthorne elementary was having a 4th grade commencement. (The kids were all very well-behaved.) Entrees (course 4) were amazing. Branzino, duck and wagyu steak. 10/10. Desserts of Soufflés and the like, also perfect. Share the soufflé, the cookies, the strawberry thing. Our server served wine without offering a taste, but the wines were fine. Food quality is top shelf. Delivery and atmosphere were… unexpected. Only the rush is actually being criticized. Wait staff otherwise was attentive and friendly. Between the company and the food it was really pretty good.
