Wonderful evening and food
Excellent service and the food was creative and delicious. I would strongly recommend the walk to get there from downtown - entirely worth it.
Be the first to ReplyPerfectly Mediocre
We booked this restaurant after reading a multitude of great reviews and were beyond excited to end our trip with a great meal. What we received - in terms of service and food - was perfectly mediocre. Many reviews called this upscaled dining at a reasonable price, but in my opinion it would be more accurate to label it as acceptable dining at an unreasonable price. The host was short and even interrupted another staff member in the middle of greeting us. He spoke with almost every other party in the upstairs dining area; however could barely mumble 3 words to us when it came time to pay. The servers were also a bit standoffish, but nowhere near as rude as the host came off. As far as the food goes, some of it was truly outstanding. The bone marrow mashed potatoes were wonderful in taste as well as price and the beef cheek and ox tail house roll was one of the best things I've ever eaten! However, most of the other items we received were lackluster. The rigatoni was dry (and at €28 for the entree a complete ripoff) and the cais na tire fondue incredibly bland. If that were the whole experience I would likely rate this restaurant higher; however the wait times between courses were an absolute joke. We waited a ridiculous 45 minutes between finishing our starters and receiving our mains without a single check-in from the host or waitstaff. It took another 30 after finishing our mains for us to finally wave someone down to pay. The food was acceptable overall, but I'd never recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience.

A neighborhood treasure for your tastebuds. Refined yet cosy food -- we wanted to order everything on the menu! A must-dine while in Dublin,

Charming place, comfy and clean, and delivered delicious food and friendly efficient service . Would def return on a future trip to Dublin… so worth a visit! Would love to it at the bar and have a chat someday.

Went early on a Friday evening hoping we could have a drink before dinner. We certainly could - with a super warm welcome and lots of warm Irish hospitality, we had a fantastic experience and a wonderful meal. Snacks at the bar before we moved upstairs to our table were delicious and the food upstairs was also wonderful. The whole experience was fantastic, warm, welcoming and not in the least bit stuffy - utterly perfect! Would highly recommend and will certainly return when next in Dublin.
Be the first to ReplyFine but not worth the money
My husband and I had been very excited to visit here for a number of months. When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly staff member who encouraged us to have a drink before going to our table. We were a few sips into our drink and we were hurried up to our table. We had been excited to try the snacks so when the waitress came to take our order we asked about the snacks...she looked at her watch and told us we should have enough time for snacks which I felt was a bit pressurised given that it was about 20 past 8. The snacks were delicious but pricey for what they are. Starters were very tasty but the presentation of the ox tail Starter made it difficult to cut. Mains were good but not outstanding . We were so full that we spilt a dessert of their super split... it was a but disjointed... the top was very bitter and it took a while to get to the sweet ice cream beneath ... I see what they were going for but it didn't work out . Service was courteous but not particularly warm and we at no point felt particularly welcome there. Its not a cheap option so we can think of better places to spend our money.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful experience with an amazing host
Turned up a bit early as was very eager to try what already had good reviews, came for a Sunday lunch and boy was it good. Chatting with the Manager, was an absolute delight as we were talking all things Michelin Guide of which the Bib Gourmand is proudly displayed in the front window. The starting cocktails and nibbles were heavenly, Caes a Tir (sp?) and Irish scallops. Followed by the best damn roll I’ve ever had in my life, the parker house roll with beef cheek and oxtail and bone marrow gravy. Lobster (only in season) and pork escalopes for mains were so delicious and bountiful portions. Desserts were also a great send off (I recommend the “supersplit”personally). An absolutely fabulous meal and so worth the journey to this wonderful hospitable place.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. All of the food was fantastic, simple Irish food done really well. Loved the beef cheek Parker roll in particular. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff and service were brilliant. Would highly recommend and would definitely return.
Expensive and food hit and miss
We had a fine experience service was excellent but the food in general was fairly average and extremely expensive, the highlight were the deserts. But the large beef dish was rough and the starters extremely small and expensive
Be the first to ReplyWish We Had a Spitalfields in Florida..........
If we lived in Dublin, Ireland we would surely enjoy eating our way through Spitalfield's menu and then we would remain loyal regulars. Tonight we ate here for my partner's birthday and we both agree it was our best meal so far on our month long visit to Ireland from Florida. We started with the Devilled Eggs for a snack then enjoyed the Beef Cheek and Oxtail in a Parker Roll. For our main we decided on the Cock-a-Leekie Pie for two and then finished with Smoked Knockanore and a scoop of ice cream with a candle for my partner to make a wish. We cannot state enough how much we enjoyed this meal. Absolutely delicious from start to finish. The staff from the minute we walked in until we left were everything you could ask for in a restaurant and then more. All were friendly, professional, welcoming, helpful, and overall made the night a hit for us. If you have not been to Spitalfields to eat then you are missing out on a great time out of the house. Go..........go drink, eat, and enjoy. You will not be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyVery mediocre food post covid transformation into a very poor dining experience
BC (before Covid) I regularly frequented this restaurant. Food was good and Declan the Maitre D was superb. Now all has changed. There were two large and very noisy groups present. The ceiling upstairs is very low and it meant my dining companion and I had to shout at each other to converse. My first course was the country terrine - very tasty but presented on a small plate with a dollop of dried fruit ketchup.(I had declined the Gherkins listed to accompany this dish) It came with one small piece of toasted bread - for €15! Great real! I asked for some more bread as Terrine/pate on its own is not very nice. Minutes later another one slice of bread was brought to my table. Not great for a Michelin bib establishment. My companion had the Shrimp mayonnaise, soft boiled egg and trout caviar. Another small plated portion and I was told the shrimp (which appeared to be prawns) were very cold as if the starter was pre-prepared and just out of the fridge before serving. We ordered the Chicken Cock-a-Leekie pie for two which came with some barely dressed salad leaves. I have eaten this pie many times pre-covid and it was one of the reasons I returned since this restaurant opened. In the past it was very good but alas no more is this the case. It was gloopy beyond belief with more leeks than chicken pieces which was mainly dried breast meat. The pastry was on the side of undercooked. It came with no other sides and smoked potatoes or Hand Cut Chips were €6 extra. The pie and salad leaves was €50! I will not be returning to this place which pre-covid was one of my favourite places to go with food that differed from the food served by the herd of restaurants. Declan is still present and I hope he moves to a restaurant that matches his considerable skills. This place certainly does not do so at present. Restaurants have been given the benefit of the doubt given staff shortages etc. This is not an excuse for poor food.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic evening
The whole evening in Spitalfields was superb The food was sublime. Lovely unusual combinations such as duck liver with ceps and aubergine. The menu has interesting elements such as their delicious snacks and would highly recommend the beef cheeks. The staff were excellent and all Covid regs complied with. It’s a special restaurant and it’s great to see it back in operation. We will be back.

Wonderful Spitalfields
I had lunch in spitalfields yesterday and it was a wonderful experience despite dublin closing down round us. The pub was warm and welcoming, the food delicious and Declan and the staff were welcoming, funny and a pleasure to be around. I am looking forward to a longer visit very soon.
