Sundance The Steakhouse Palo Alto Reviews from The Last Year

My husband and I came here for a date night and also a pre-birthday celebration. We had the filet mignon egg rolls and crab cakes, I had been eyeing the menu online for a couple of weeks and knew I was getting the crab cakes. Both were so delicious! Our entrees, I had the scallops, wild rice, and veggies. The hubs had prime rib, veggies, and potatoes. Everything was delicious, the scallops were huge and cooked to perfection! We totally over did it with the food and had to box up our leftovers. The servers were attentive and super friendly. We will definitely be back.
Roast beef style steak
I visited this steakhouse in Palo Alto because it is a well-known steakhouse. The restaurant recommended the prime rib, which was similar to roast beef. It was delicious. They also have a good selection of wines, but the prices are high.
My friend and I came here for dinner on a Friday evening.
We had reservations and were seated within 5 minutes of arriving. Sundance has a classic steakhouse feel: dim lighting, leather booths, wood accents, you name it. Food: I ordered the strawberry arugula salad and the veggie plate. The salad was delicious. It was well dressed without being overdressed and flavorful. The veggie plate was a loaded baked potato (no bacon) and a side of sautéed veggies. The potato was gigantic. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The veggies were a good variety. I would order the plate again. I also tried some fries and mashed potatoes. Those were good. The complimentary bread service was a delight. It came with some butter as well as oil and balsamic vinegar. My friend ordered the filet mignon, and he said it was cooked to his preference (medium rare). Service: Our server was friendly and attentive. Our food did take longer than expected, but it was a busy Friday night so nothing alarming. TL;DR - classic steakhouse with good service and some good options for a vegetarian
First time eating at this establishment and I'm glad to say
First time eating at this establishment and I'm glad to say that it has exceeded my expectations. Everything we ordered were great. Service was very prompt and friendly. Love the feel of the place. Old school look and feel. Got the rib eye lunch special, lobster linguine and petite prime rib. Clam chowder was very rich and tasty.
The food is very nice.
The service is very nice. The environment is good. The table is a little bit small.

We went to Sundance to celebrate my husband's birthday, and this OG place did not disappoint. The vibe was lovely. The service and timing from our waitress, Ashley G., were outstanding. Complimentary freshly baked bread. Free mud pie (ice cream cake) dessert for the birthday boy. Both of our steaks were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The veggies were still crisp, and the garlic mashed potatoes were to die for. Their Ceasar salad was perfect with crisp romaine, perfect dressing and cheese ratio, anchovies, and crunchy (not hard) croutons. Lastly, their drinks were so good we had to get another round. This place is a solid choice for a nice night out. PS: Don't forget to grab some Andes chocolate on your way out.

I brought my parents here for a celebratory dinner and wanted to love this place, but we won't be back. Pros: Easy to make a reservation, easy parking, seated promptly in a quiet nook, and our server was exceptionally friendly. We generally enjoyed the food and drinks, and the restaurant comped our appetizer because of the delay noted below, which was appreciated. Cons: Food took nearly an hour to arrive after we ordered. Not ideal, but the kitchen is busy, we all make mistakes, fine. We were informed of the appetizer's removal as we received our check, which again, was appreciated. However, as the manager was apologizing for the delay, he exclusively directed his attention to my dad, as if the rest of the table didn't exist at all. This may sound like a silly thing, but there was not even a split second of eye contact towards us. Not one. Even if you assume who's paying (understandably, alebit incorrectly), why not make the simple gesture of acknowledging the full table when explaining a delay that's affecting us all? It was rude. Otherwise, while we enjoyed the prime rib and two steaks we ordered, I unfortunately didn't get the level of "wow, this tastes amazing* that I'd hoped for. Their $8 glass of lemonade was, annoyingly and without exaggeration, almost entirely ice. Overall: Although our visit seems not be the norm, I wouldn't recommend coming here. For the cost, you can easily get a higher quality dining experience elsewhere.
Both the prime rib and filet were cooked to perfection.
Vegetables were fresh both the baked potato and roasted garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. Our server Ashley was friendly, confident with suggestions and provided an excellent dining experience! We will most definitely return and hope to be seated in Ashley's section. Ambiance is that if an old school steakhouse from the menu to the white table cloths. Perfect!!

Took a chance on this classic after a Quick tour of Palo Alto and Stanford with my work colleagues all visiting from around the country for work. We were able to get a table in the bar which suited our casual just fine. I had a Caesar salad which had house made dressing and anchovies. It was superb! Romaine crisp and the perfect ratio of Parmesan croutons and dressing. For my main course I had grilled Pacific swordfish with a beurre blanc sauce. It was a perfectly cooked and the sauce was just right. The loaded potato was fantastic, sour cream, chives bacon bits and butter. The carrots and broccoli were crisp. To completely go nuts I had Gheradelli hot fudge sundae with coffee ice cream which was awesome. A good fine dining experience.

We absolutely adore this steakhouse in every way! Their service is spectacular: everyone treats us with so much grace and warmth, from the bartenders and waiters/waitresses to the folks to help clear the table. And lastly, Peter the manager is amazing - we've never met a friendlier or more helpful manager! The food is delicious and extremely reliable in quality. We've tried various steak options, soup, salad, sides, and drinks - Everything is perfect. I enjoy the classic nature of the dishes (light seasoning, buttered veggies, horseradish, etc). It reminds me of eating in the Cotswolds or London. The location speaks for itself across the block from campus, and we love the cozy and classic interiors and decor - it's the epitome of a classic steakhouse. We've become regulars and come back at least 1 time per week. Aside from date nights, we've also had business dinners here too. After a busy day, we take a lot of comfort in knowing we always have a great experience here!
Prime rib was perfect.
There was a great amount of meat to fat ratio for the 10oz cooked med rare, perfect

The white chocolate crème brûlée is rich and creamy with just the right amount of sugar. The ribeye is really delicious! I appreciate that the waiters and waitresses are very friendly and seem to enjoy their work. The whole restaurant is very clean and has a classic statehouse style.

We have been customers, and big fans, of Sundance for 33 years. The food, service, and atmosphere have been dependably excellent for that entire time, but recently both we and family members have had bad experiences there that prompt this review. While the atmosphere continues to be fun and most of the food still seems to be great, both we and our guests at one dinner and my brother-in-law at another dinner received steaks (in my and our guest's case a boneless ribeye and in my brother-in-law's case a filet) that were extremely low-quality, more something you would expect to receive (and complain about) at a Denny's and not at a good steakhouse. Beware. We also had terrible service the last time we went, from a waiter with a real attitude. In fairness, my brother-in-law did not have that problem. Sundance may have chosen to change its source of steaks to a really marginal one to save money. If so, it is being very short-sighted and will lose business, certainly from anyone who cares about the quality of the meat.

We went to dinner at Sundance Steakhouse for my husband's birthday and everything was very nice. The food was great, three of our party ordered prime rib, one ordered grilled salmon, one ordered jumbo prawn pasta and the birthday boy had scallops - everyone enjoyed their meals. The service was really great, very attentive, offered suggestions and made requested adjustments. Overall a great experience.
First time here, atmosphere was amazing, service was great.
Came here with my really good friends and family. The sports memorabilia was amazing. We weren't really satisfied with the prime rib, ordered it "medium", it was OK, tried some steak, it was way better. My recommendation would be the steak. But overall not a bad spot.

SO good! A coworker recommended this 50 year old traditional steakhouse. My husband and I went for Valentine's Day and had an excellent experience. The service was fantastic and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and got dessert to go!
Sundance Steak House in Palo Alto was the perfect choice
Sundance Steak House in Palo Alto was the perfect choice for our Valentine's Day dinner. We opted for the shareholder portion of their prime rib cooked rare, and it was absolutely delightful. The steak was incredibly well-prepared, tender, and juicy - a definite highlight of the meal and one that I highly recommend. Our server was attentive and sweet, adding to the overall positive experience. The ambiance was welcoming, with lots of couples dining alongside their children, creating a family-friendly atmosphere. In addition to the prime rib, we also tried their lobster bisque, as well as the Strawberry Arugula and Tossed Sonoma Salad, all of which were delicious additions to our meal. Overall, Sundance Steak House exceeded our expectations, providing a wonderful dining experience that we won't soon forget.

Had a really warm, relaxing time at the bar getting their famous prime rib. If you're looking for the best prime rib in town, it may not be the one but it's very well made, don't have to wait for an hour, reasonably priced, and atmosphere is fantastic. Loved the mash too, the portion felt larger than what I actually ordered. Bartender / server was extremely nice and welcoming, even made sure that my leftovers were packed with fresh sauces that came with the steak. Will be back!
Had a delectable prime rib dinner with my behbeh on Sunday
Had a delectable prime rib dinner with my behbeh on Sunday evening 6:15pm. They only had bar seating available when i booked reservations but it was still nice. Happy we were early enough for prime rib available this time as last time they had run out when we ate around 8pm. Enjoyed a split caesar salad to start and bowl of clam chowder, i really like their caesar salad here, comes with a lemon. The chowder has lots of big pieces of potatoes. I had the lavender bees knees as a cocktail and enjoyed it a lot. Had two. This was my first time trying prime rib and i enjoyed my petit cut. It is very soft and juicy and i liked the 2 sauces u can dip it in. One is darker and one is horseradish. I liked the carrot and broccoli and the loaded potato. I always like the ambiance here and the service, feels very homey. My bf really likes the ribeye here more than the prime rib tho- thats what he said said so we will prob be back for that tho i liked the prime rib alot and would be back for it.
Sundance Never Disappoints!
We have been visiting Sundance Steakhouse for many years for birthdays and anniversaries. Food quality, service, and ambience are consistently excellent. Our visit in December 2023 was no exception. From a superb fried calamari app to 7 oz filet to 10 oz strip steak, everything was perfectly cooked to order (calamari with crunchy breading but tender inside—not a rubbery bite in sight!) and steaks (medium rare, just as ordered). Steakhouse wedge salads delivered crisp lettuce and abundant dressing, bacon, tomato and onion. Creamed spinach and loaded baked potato came in good sized portions. We had enough left over to make a complete repeat meal tomorrow! Speaking of leftovers, they were packaged with care in separate containers for cold salad, meat entrees, vegetable sides. This is a small courtesy that many restaurants overlook in the rush to plate it all up in one container. Service is courteous, friendly and efficient without being cringingly self-important. I love visiting Sundance and can’t wait to go back.
Wonderful steak and prime rib
We had an extremely large group, and they were able to accommodate us with a reservation in a semi private room in the middle of the restaurant. We shared some excellent appetizers , including sashimi, filet spring rolls, calamari, crab cakes and shrimp. For dinner, I chose the prime rib and house salad. It was perfectly cooked, medium rare. And came with creamed spinach and buttered vegetables. The service was excellent and our waiter did a great job keeping up with a table of 16. I would definitely eat here again.
A local treasure, a superb steakhouse.
This place always exceeds expectations. We returned to Sundance after a 3-year hiatus due to COVID lockdowns and general caution about over-exposure to indoor dining. To our delight, our experience was better than ever. From the hibachi ahi and filet mignon spring roll starters to the filet and prime rib entrees to the berries and grand mariner dessert, everything was spectacularly delicious. In the apps, a slightly sweet sesame dressing over cucumber slices took the buttery ahi and pickled ginger to new heights. As always, their beef is always cooked as ordered and vegetable sides are perfect. Service is unobtrusive and efficient (busters) and gracious and friendly (server). This restaurant is a local treasure and we are so happy it survived the pandemic and is still top notch!
Best Steaks in Town!! Come on down!!
Second visit, booked a month in advance, a post graduation celebration dinner with my son and family! Loved it the first time and had to come back. They have the BEST quality steaks for miles. We had it medium, and they were cooked to perfection. Had Calamari starters and I ordered Oysters as well. Will say the oysters are though half the size you get in Europe but delicious none the less. The dessert was kinda ok. Can't beat the main courses! Definitely would be back when in the area.
Lontimer of 26 years! Always great.
My husband and I have been going here since 1996. It's our "go-to-place" for special occasions. I like the most expensive item on the menu, of course -the NY Strip Steak w extra sauce. My husband loves the salmon and clam chowder. I've ordered the clam chowder to serve at home on Christmas and B.day dinners many times. The staff really try to work w their customers to accommodate them. I got food to go several times during the pandemic and even order food off the menu and negotiated w them about how much to charge me for crab cakes :-) (I got them $4 less than they were on their new menu) Their prices have vaulted over the past five years but they also support the community by contributing gift certificates to various fund raisers (we also buy at least one this way a year). BC the management is so approachable and kind, I don't mind paying for some of their expensive meals, but again, we only go once or twice a year for special occasions.

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Newbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
