Gari knows his sauces and marinades and uses them to create a tasty meal
Sushi of Gari 46 is know for his ‘Signature Omakase’ dinner which shows off his expertise with marinate and spiced raw as well as slightly cooked ingredients. We started out with Gari’s hot sake and Sapporo beer coupled with edamame while waiting for our grandnephew, the ‘Food King’ from Seattle. He who knows sushi had not arrived yet. Due to a street fair on 8th Avenue, he was detained. In the interim, Arlee ordered some Nigiri sushi rolls including spicy tuna and spicy scallops. Upon Cole’s arrival we ordered a second order of spicy tuna and yellow tail with scallions. After finishing this off along with the edamame, he proceeded to order Unagi (eel), Ororo (fatty tuna), Ebi (shrimp), Hamachi (yellow tail). That boy can eat and knows the various Nigiri in Japanese too. I had a sashimi dinner consisting of 15 pieces of sliced raw fish, including shrimp and seared items which arrived with a side bowl of rice. Gari Sushi is located in Restaurant Row on 44th Street, easily accessible for anyone attending theater on Broadway. Chef Gari knows his trade. We were impressed with his expertise in the use of sauces and marinades. Everything was delicious.

We took the Omakase Sashimi & Sushi. Would really recommend it! Really nice place, friendly staff and just the best sushi we ever had!
Be the first to ReplyAvoid Sushi Gari
We had booked an Omakase dinner. This was over $170 per person. The chef gave us 12 pieces of sushi. At Takeda and Nakasawa we had twice as much for the same price. Don't go to this ripoff place! By the.way, we also went to Le Bernadin and 11 Madison Park, which were amazing! It isn't about the money as much as the disrespect which was evident at Sushi Gari in spite öf the fact that we have been there before. .
Be the first to ReplyNot as good as it used to be
I really waited to write this. I started eating at the east side original location in the early 2000s. I’ve continued eating since then at all of the Gari locations since then. I LOVE Gari and their signature omakase pieces. But last three times in the past year I’ve been to Gari 46 after or before broadway shows, the Quality has dropped off to say the least. Salmon has been sub par. Tomoe ridiculously better. Honestly I’ve had a lot better in many places. Gyoza was not good either, shockingly, but it’s like they picked a different brand or supplier, it tasted so differently. I know sushi and I’ve eaten at the best everywhere, and Gari has lowered its standard unwittingly. Please change this. I used to love going here but now quality doesn’t justify the price. Without your “extras” on the pieces, the sushi itself has been not as good. Please fix this, and i say this as a customer who always loved eating here.

If you go to this restaurant for having Novel
Sushi, it should be above four stars. But if you go to this restaurant for having Authentic Sushi, it should be below three stars.
Overpriced, overrated, and overall unsatisfying and disappointing!!!
Ordered the Omasake menu, got 3 trays of 4 pieces each, only one of the items was intriguing and satisfying, all the other, you could find at any all you can eat sushi places in terms of taste for less than $25 for the entire meal.
Extremely disappointed.
Amazing!
I wanted Omakase for my birthday, and I had trouble finding a place open on Sunday. I was nervous because this was the only highly reviewed place open. IT WAS GREAT!!! I took two friends who had never experience Omakase, and I think they are converted.
Top of the line fish. Also, a good intro for people not .... SUPER experimental with omakase sushi. Just perfect
