Amazing sushi experience! This is high end sushi, right in the heart of the theater district. Perfect for a pre-show special occasion meal. The service is phenomenal, and the sushi is unbelievably fresh.

We had the sushi of gari chefs special that included 8 pieces of sushi with a special topping on each piece. The flavors did not really compliment each other. For instance, one piece was salmon with a big chunk of tomato on top. The tomato completely washed out the flavor of the salmon. And generally the fish did not taste very fresh. We were very disappointed bc we only had that and some sake and the bill was $275! Not even good at all. SMH. Don't get how this place has such good reviews.
Be the first to ReplyLet me get down to it-the fish is very good.
Above average for the area so the sushi is high quality. The service is also excellent. If you are seeing a show, they will make sure you are out on time. And the servers are friendly. Now the not so good-the prices. For $45 my sushi dinner should come with miso soup and a salad-it des not-those are extra. Prices are high. Maybe this is a result of inflation but you should know what you are getting into. Second, in the winter if you sit remotely near the door you will freeze. Despite their double door system the cool sneaks in every single time that door opens. They should, seriously, off blankets to those diners sitting by the door which will be most parties of two. So, would I come again? Hard to say. There is better value for your sushi dollar in NYC that is for sure. That said, my dinner was tasty.

I adore Omakasr. Sushi Gari did not disappoint. Each course was better than the last!

Wonderful sushi restaurant in the area of the broadway district. Come here for dinner if you are catching a broadway show. Wondeful fresh sushi. Love the omakase and the sushi bar seating. A must. They have wonderful creative sushi courses. The toro was divine and the chef was friendly and engaging. A wonderful experience.
Be the first to ReplyWe visited Sushi of Gari before seeing a show.
I was really happy as we checked in when the hostess asked if we had theater tickets and let us know that she would talk to the server and monitor the clock for us. This was a really nice welcome! We had the Omakase menu and, while everything wasn't wow, there were several amazing bites. We probably also had one of the best bottles of sake that we ever had. The price is not for the faint of heart tho... but if you're up for a splurge, I'd recommend this place!

The pro's: fresh sushi in a convenient location pre theater The cons: menu is basic yet very expensive. They rush you out to get turnover. The service is attentive. But all in all expected more for the price here. Also, they should try to source more unique sushi if they are going to keep it so simple. Ie- tiny raw shrimp or oyster with uni and ikura would be nice additions to the menu. Either way, not planning to return anytime soon.

Sushi at its finest. I went in with a small group for a celebratory outing and we ordered the omakase sushi set ... which leaves it up to the executive chef to serve us several sushi of his choice. Selections ranged from yellowtail to uni to toro (fatty tuna) to cod to sea eel. The nigiri sushi served with the omakase set are not the traditional nigiri sushi. These are wonderful combinations of flavors and textures. Each one is a work of art! Impeccable combinations that I have never experienced in a sushi restaurant, even during my 20 plus trips to Japan. Attentive staff tops it all off and makes the meal a unique experience. If you have a reason to celebrate (and splurge), consider this restaurant ... you will not be disappointed.

At some point im sure Sushi of Gari had a soul. Now days it's very expensive, subpar sushi and burnt out chefs.

Do the Omakase. Worth the price and the risk! No soy, just what the chef suggests. All the tastiest and freshest ingredients

Foods are not bad but really bad customer service I order them my birthday dinner through seamless. Unfortunately, i didn't received the foods so I called the seamless and they reached out they couldn't reach out with the restaurant so they fully refunded me. Since then they refused my orders because I didn't talk directly to them which is odd. The restaurant closed after 10 PM on seamless app. How to reach out also waited til 10:30 PM anyway. They could also call me why I got refund if they are curious of the reason. Always trying to support small biz - extremely bad customer service and disappointed

An amazing omakase experience!I have had omakase before, and this is definitely up there, beginning to end pretty perfect.Walked in for our reservation on this freezing night (real feel minus 11!) and were greeted by the friendliest hostess, who took our coats and to our surprise later on kept them in some warmer, even the hat and gloves in my coat pocket were toasty! We had requested and were sat at the sushi bar and were introduced to our chef, and my fault I regret not catching his name. Our server was wonderful, service was great all around. We shared a carafe of a delicious sake that she recommended, I believe Ichinokura Shozanten. We started with the age tofu which was great. Then we proceeded with the sashimi and sushi experience. Every piece was delicious and creative.Sometimes being "creative" is too creative with unusual flavors that don't always work, or sauces and toppings that are too heavy. However every piece we had was perfect!!! Flavors were delicious and sauces and toppings were light.perfect perfect. Sashimi included fatty tuna that just melted in the mouth.Standouts of the sushi were the charred fatty tuna with dollop of caviar, the salmon with cooked tomato, the smoked crab leg, the snapper with quail egg and truffle, the fresh scallop, ... all of them! They served us green tea ice cream for our anniversary, with green tea which was awesome. We picked up our warm and toasty jackets (again a pleasant surprise) from the friendly hostess before leaving.Just an overall awesome experience.

All their sushi pieces were fresh and flavorful.Their chef and whole staff were very attentive and friendly!!
Be the first to ReplyI don't leave a lot of reviews.
But after going here and spending 170$ on the Omasake Friday night.. i have to. It was the worst sushi we've ever had. The shrimp and the eel were mush. Not fresh at all. The rest lacked unique flavors. Very basic. Not fresh pieces of fish. I wouldn't recommend anyone going for food. Service was good. Staff was friendly. Food was the worst sushi I've ever had.

Fantastic meal every single time! This is one of my favorite omakase in the city. Everything is fresh and tasty and the service is phenomenal.
Be the first to ReplyI came to the city with two intentions: have great sushi
I came to the city with two intentions: have great sushi and see some theater after a long COVID pause on eating indoors and being in packed theaters. I have had many omakase experiences in NYC and this was the worst. The entire experience lasted 38 minutes (piece after piece arrived on my plate in record speed) and the quality of the fish, the presentation, and the flavors were less than lack luster. One piece was so poorly textured that I wished i could spit it out. Then came the hot tomato. Why would you put a hot piece of tomato mess with little flavor on top of a piece of raw salmon? If you are going to pay $140 for 11 pieces of sushi they should be incredible. I guess I shouldn't have expected much in the theater district, but certainly will never waste my money here again.
Be the first to ReplyMy boyfriend took me here for our anniversary.
I have to say, I was blown away! I've never had Omakase before & was already excited. From the moment we made the reservation up to the moment we walked out the door I was just in Awe ! The service was so welcoming, The employees were very very accommodating! The ambiance was just wonderful, Now the FOOD! Was remarkable!!! I've been to many sushi restaurants all over New York & NOTHING COMPARES to this place, they only serve the Cleanest & the Freshest. Your not paying for the food your paying for the experience. My boyfriend was recommended her years ago by his driver. We live close by so the walk home was just the cherry on top. He didn't know they opened another location, (they have 3 locations) We started off with * Miso soup * Edamame Then they serve a platter of 4 different bite size horderves to cleanse your pallet. Followed by a Bottle of Onikoroshi (It has hints of Peach and Plum, YUM) Then we had the Sashimi & Sushi Omakase that includes * 4 kinds of Sashimi * 8 kinds of sushi When your finished they bring you a cup of green tea in their signature Mugs For dessert we had the Mochi ! That comes in a variety of * Vanilla Chocolate Chip * Green Tea * Passion Fruit I've never been more satisfied. Hands down one of the best Restaurants in NYC

If not for the food, this place gets five stars for the service. The food was amazing but the service? Top tier. My friend sent back his appetizer bc he didn't wanna get too full before the main course and the manager apologetically came out to ask what could've been done different for him to enjoy. They came Over and wished me happy birthday at the end with some delish complementary matcha ice cream. I'll definitely be back

I've had my fair share of sushi and, well, this was by far the best. The fish was so incredibly fresh and tasty! The salmon roll and roasted oyster rolls were tasty but we were in love with the heirloom tomato salmon sashimi special and the asparagus negemaki! Amaze!

What an amazing sushi spot!Perfectly attentive staff and fish so fresh you forget you are in NYC. Highly recommend the tuna selection and Gari Special. Almost every table I could see ordered the Gari Special. Essentially a sampler platter of 8 sushi pieces prepared how Chef Gari intends for the best flavor combo. From there you can decide what you like best but you'll find all of them delicious and you end up ordering another Gari Special.

DELICIOUS!!My husband and I made a reservation for 2 at 6pm on a Wednesday night. I highly recommend making reservations because they can get busy. The servers were very attentive and knowledgeable. Everything was super clean and the sushi was really fresh. I thought the price point was very affordable. We did a-la-carte and thought that it was totally worth the price. We ordered the Gari Special which consisted of 8 different fish. Each were all tender and fresh. They were also with soy sauce and wasabi so we were advised not to dip it in additional wasbai/soy sauce. Each bite was delicious and the fish were melt in my mouth good. Their cut rolls were SO good. I kept reaching for more and more even if I was so full. My favorite was the Fatty Tuna roll with scallions. I could probably eat that every day.ALSO, their uni from Japan was delicious!!! It wasn't very "fishy" compared to other places that get them from a lower quality place. Their uni was creamy and rich in flavor. OK- I honestly had a really great time at Sushi of Gari. Price point was good, sushi was fresh, the servers were super attentive, overall a really great time. I cant wait to go back for some more of their Fatty Tuna roll.
