(march22) very torn here: the food is really great, there's no question about that, but since maybe we weren't able to have a set menu or maybe because we couldn't sit inside (so whatever vision chef salgado had for seating and ambiance wasn't there), it was a bit lacking for me in overall experience, though it might not be that way for you during your visit at all. specifically, agua fresca -- as good as everyone says it ischampignones con ortigas -- these maitake mushrooms look as if they were just plucked and placed right in front of you, and they have such a great texture to them + the green mole is just sour enough to make your mouth water in preparation for your mains. great appetizer for ussides, frijoles and avocado -- the epazote is such a unique flavor to me; it's strangely addicting if you're in to it, but i can also see how other people might not enjoy this at all. the avocado is fine, you need it for the tacos you're about to make because how could you not have avocado with your meal in southern california? but special, maybe notaccompaniments, tortillas and cilantro/spice -- i remember eating here when it first opened up and i did not like the blue tortillas at all. they were dry, cold, and fell apart easily, but not this time. this time, they were near perfect in every way, but i do wish they served a salsa and not a fried chili oil (of the asian variety) because salsa seems like it could be so personal and open to interpretation; a missed opportunity in my eyesmole de pato -- i order mole every chance i get, from the fanciest restaurant down to the most hole in the wall because i just think to myself, maybe! just maybe! unsurprisingly, this one has to be up there in terms of best examples of the dish i've had, but i say that knowing i need to have more because as i'm sure you've all experienced, great mole is very few and far between. so while i'd like to be more nuanced about this in my review for you, all i can say is, i loved it: it's dark and complex and i've had plenty of bad ones. whatever that's worth to youarrachera -- just a really great cut of steak, cooked to medium/medium rare with a side of very delicious grilled spring onions. perfect for making tacos withpastel de piloncillo -- very sweet, warm cake for dessert; vanilla custard and what i can only describe as a condensed vanilla syrup at the bottom. great ending to a very pleasant mealso all that being said, part of me thinks it was a bit pricier than it needed to be, and that's probably what a michelin star affords you. don't get me wrong, this price point is very well earned, but it's not something i can see myself wanting again and again so long as i have any regard for what this does to my pocketbookthank you so much for the wonderful meal and great eveningwithout a doubt, we will be back to experience the prefixe and indoor dining as soon as your team will allow!
