Ok so I been coming here for a wile now even b4 they opened up a restaurant witch recently closed down I've supported them regardless because they had really good food but I bought a dozen tamales and they changed me $30 witch i thought was way to much but I still bought them but when I got home I was so disappointed the tamales were way bigger now but they we're mostly all masa and super dry not like B4 when they were small but not dry and had really good taste and plenty of meat I get it times are thought right now and everything has gone up but this was just ridiculous i really hope they don't keep this up because just like me I'm sure other customers are thinking the same way I am I hope thy listen to the customers and go back to what made the popular to even come out in the news because if they don't it's probably gonna cost them to loose more business and cost them to even close down the lunch truck hopefully they notice and do what's right I'll give them 1 more chance ti see if it was just this 1 time only let's see who it goes I'll make sure to post again

I have bought tamales from her for the past years and by the time her prices keep getting higher by the minute. I don't know for you but for me 2.75 is too expensive for one dame tamale when before you could get two for the price of one. Honestly her food doesn't taste the same anymore either. The "masa" of the tamales doesn't have flavor to it either. I am not satisfied at all. Sorry but I'm not coming back for more...

First time I tried their tamales was about 3 years ago when I found them through YouTube and went to their old Bell Gardens brick and mortar location. I've tried every type of tamale this business offers and although all of them were good, two of the available variety are my favorite ones. They are the red pork and the cheese with jalapeรฑo which are both mild. Spicy would be better but they're tasty as is. Family owned and operated, great family success story, and these people are just so damn nice! Unfortunately for me, they closed their Bell Gardens brick and mortar location and the only option I had to get their tasty tamales was to purchase them from their food truck that operates in the city of Watts and they park their truck between Wilmington Ave & E 110th St. I got there a little early and they rolled up right as their website https://www.tamaleselena.com/ posted hours states. If you're not planning on dinning in front of their food truck and don't want to wait around too long, you can just order ahead like I did. They require a Zelle 1/2 deposit and it's a pretty smooth process. Don't really have much more to add on this review except to state again how nice these people, they have quality food and they are so worth supporting.
Be the first to ReplyThe tamales are good just be careful your total is correct.
I went in during the holidays and the they over charged me.i ordered 7 dz tamales and they charged me for 8. That was $30 difference. Another thing they hiked up the prices when they usually sell the dozen of tamales for $28 supposedly we didnt "pre order" I call BS . Ladrones!!

Chicken, pork and cheese tamales great workers the area is good don't have to go very far don't have to travel for it to get me a good tamale. It's in a good area when I drop my son off at the train station. This is my go to place in the morning for a good quick breakfast lunch or dinner really appreciate them.
Be the first to ReplyCame to their truck on Wilmington Ave.
Very impressed a friend of mine is a cook and was blown away by the quality of food and taste. Great customer service humble and friendly people work this truck I give this place a 10 :) you can also eat there they have tables and chairs set up. Highly recommend this place if you're in the area.
Be the first to ReplyTaste very authentic, just like my grandmas tamales.
Only thing is, for $2 each they're pretty small. But flavor is really there, the red pork is my favorite. Make sure to check your order if possible because they gave me 2 wrong tamales.

4 stars, only because my birria tacos were lingering with tamale flavor. Still tasty, but not what I expected.

Took a 2 minute walk across from school for lunch at Tamales Elena (located at the corner of Wilmington/111th). Ordered the #1 (added an extra tamale) along with the tacos dorados con consume. Another satisfying lunch. Muchas gracias!

Be the first to ReplyI'd been so excited to come after reading rave reviews.
Imagine how upset I was, after driving all the way from Ktown just for the tamales here, to find that the address given is not correct. The building is now selling pho, and now I'm hangry. Please change the address.

Idk what's going on here but the Business was closed today Saturday May 28th at 11am. No signs or anything explaining why. Did they go out of business? Can y'all at least put a sign up and let your customers know smh driving here with gas being $6 a galloon and y'all can't update your google or yelp pages.
Be the first to ReplyI've tried this place three times now.
And I still don't know when they open. I tried doing a grub hub delivery, denied. I tried getting chilaquiles on site twice, closed? Did this place go out of business or do they just open when they feel like it?
Be the first to ReplyThe pork tamales is definitely my favorite here.
In fact I can say it was the best I have ever had anywhere. All the tamales I tried here were very good (chicken, cheese & pork) but the pork will be my go to here. The masa texture was larger than most other tamales and tasted so fresh.

Yummy restaurant in an unsuspecting place! My aunt read about this place in LA Times and decided we needed to try it. We ordered tacos, tamales, pozole, Jamaica and the horchata drink Everything was delicious! Small portions except the pozole, and all of the salsas were HOT. Our group of 5 sat outside and put together two tables. There are only about 6 tables so not a whole lot of space. There is a parking lot in the back but it's small as well. As we were leaving the waitress told us that the restaurant is closing and becoming just a food truck! So go quick before it's mobile
Be the first to ReplyI honestly didn't know tamales could be this good.
Holy cow! I had the pork and chicken tamale wrapped in Banana leaf. They were both so juicy, so flavorful, MOIST, hands-down the best tamales I've ever eaten in my life!

I've been trying to try this place for a year or so but never found myself near them while hungry. I expected it to be sophisticated, modern versions of traditional Mexican food but it's not. What it is is traditional tamales and tacos from the alcopulco region but exceptionally well done! Amazing beef tongue taco, grilled fish tacos and pork tamales in a red marinade Sooooo good!

Delicious tamales, this is the best little spot for tamales hands down! Hopefully they open a dining restaurant soon
Be the first to ReplyTamales Elena Y Antojitos is in a quiet corner of Bell
Tamales Elena Y Antojitos is in a quiet corner of Bell Gardens specializing in Afro-Mexican cuisine from the State of Guerrero. Here you'll find some of the best tamales around. They have two types of tamales: Hoja de Maiz (corn husk) and the more expensive Hoja de Platano (banana leaf). With each tamale, it is as if you're unwrapping a gift.Pollo en Salsa Verde (Maiz): The steamed tamale is rolled tightly in the husk, giving it a slender tubular form. The masa is sensational, soft and supple with a little creaminess (from the lard). I could eat just the masa alone without any fillings. This one has shredded chicken stewed in a mild green salsa.Puerco en Salsa Roja (Platano): The tamale is wrapped in a banana leaf. It has a flat rectangular shape and is infused with the aroma from the banana leaf. The red salsa is a little smoky and nicely seasons the shredded pork filling.Puerco en Salsa Roja (Maiz): This tamale is filled with stewed pork in a red salsa. The masa has an orange tint. Queso con Jalapeรฑo (Maiz): The cheese imparts a tart flavor while the jalapeรฑo lends some spice. The accompanying salsas are delicious. The red salsa has a little heat while the green salsa has a unique herbal flavor. Next time, I'll need to return for the strawberry and pineapple tamales.Parking: There is a lot in the back. Ordering: You can order at the counter. There is also a drive through window in the lot. Dining Area: There is a table in the small space indoors and some tables in the patio out front.
Be the first to ReplyDO NOT EAT HERE.
It will ruin your enjoyment of other Mexican food henceforth! This eater has tasted the finest SoCal has to offer. Simply stated, the Irra sisters are in a league of their own. The Lengua con Platano Macho is the best plate of Latin American cuisine in Southern California under $20 PERIOD. Beef tongue is simmered for hours then stewed with a sauce richly layered with flavors. Sweet fried circles of plantain perfectly contrast the umami of the protein. Wisely use what's left the back beans and rice to absorb any remaining sauce left least you feel temped lick the plate clean.

Truly amazed on the quality of the food! Let me tell you, if you are craving either tamales or a menudo don't hesitate on visiting this restaurant. The menu is small, which is a big plus for me. Husband order his menudo I order two vegan tamales on of mushrooms and the other one of spinach and cheese. The menudo was already serve with the right amount of condiments (chile, oregano). Husband love the flavor and the way the meat was well cook, he enjoyed the broth. It was the talk of the day. He order the small, which was a good amount of portion. My tamales were very delicious, I ate them calmly to enjoy the flavor of them. They where wrap in banana leave which gave them an extra flavor. I also order a champurado, it was delicious! My kids order tacos, they let me know they were good. We will definitely be coming back. The only down side is parking and no space to sit as a family, it also needed shaded.
Be the first to ReplyWow, this place is just great.
I've been wanting to try it since it opened, but I finally went. Between three of us, we were able to try a variety of dishes and they were all delicious. The pozole rojo was so flavorful and the right amount of mild spice. I had the torta de asada, which kept me full for hours. The tacos de asada and barbacoa tacos were really satisfying. I was told the pozole blanco was really good and authentic as well. And later that night we tried the pork tamales, and we couldn't stop. My husband wanted to go back the next day! I can't wait to try more of what they have to offer.
