The excellence that pleases
It is increasingly rare to find such high quality, such a classy venue in Rome, moreover in one of the most beautiful areas of the historic centre, at such honest costs and with such kind and helpful restaurateurs and waiters. The food is really good and the menu is varied in a perfect atmosphere both as a couple and with friends (among other things, the fondues are well suited). I already know what to try next time!
Never again
We discovered this place via IG. Location arranged. We were very disappointed not so much by the staff, but by what seemed to be the owner/manager because, in response to simple questions about the dishes, we felt they responded with disdain. No wine list and when asked which wines were available, with an ironic smile I was told twice "white, red or bubbles". What kind of answer is this? A fried egg with truffle, a fondue and two glasses of wine €75. Ah, the owner/manager at the cash register, probably realizing this, told us that fondue would be offered. So €75, well. Never again.
WHAT A GREAT DINNER, GENTLEMEN!
BIRTHDAY DINNER for my sister, the youngest. Rome, February 2024, rain, wind and wet San Pietrini... we enter the tavern... the owner, Francesco Maria, a great gentleman, welcomes 3 sisters and 1 brother-in-law... he guides us with advice on wine and appetizers..."but come on... come on... I'll tell you even a little egg with a grating of truffle, what is needed”… and from there…. smoked duck breast, tomino and truffle mozzarella, Swiss cheese fondue... with a Kirsch that seemed to be close to summer cherries, good meat bourguignonne and excellent regional sauces, no mystified raw materials and all prepared with short cooking times, which allowed us to understand if they really were fresh and of high quality. fair price, which respects the menu, without abusing the location (full center), next to us we had 5 French people who stuffed themselves... only one flaw, which however for us, is worth 1000..... …Francesco doesn't like garlic! Good dinner in the center of Rome
We had a very good dinner, we didn't have a reservation and they very kindly sat us at a table, everything was very good, the Staff treated us very well
MARGINS OF IMPROVEMENT
I went to this restaurant with my wife, honestly we didn't have a very good time. However there is room for improvement to make it a great place to spend a nice evening. The choice to come to this restaurant was dictated by the excellent reviews on cheese fondues, given our love for this dish we decided to come to Taverna Lucifero. Let's start with the telephone reservation. You can't be approximate. (reservation made for 9.30pm we were told: your reservation is for 10.00pm. As if we didn't know what time we booked for.... however the owner kindly made us sit). Second point of improvement: except for the owner's precautions, the rest of the staff is not very present at the tables. Third: there is no wine list, it is the owner who lists the list of wines verbally which in his opinion the customer should memorize. Our experience was that once we had chosen the wine, the owner arrived at the table already with the bottle uncorked and told us the price, even if, to be honest, he was willing to change it if we didn't like it, (if had there been a list this tarantella would have been avoided). We took the entrecote which was delicious, it melted in your mouth... excellent quality. Then we got the Swiss fondue....which we left unfilled after tasting it. Unfortunately tasteless, you could only taste the alcohol in the wine, very poor quality. Let's not even talk about the pieces of stale homemade bread, not even for the chickens. I strongly advise you to look at the raw materials for the cheese fondue and for the bread, simply half a French baguette which is the death of the fondue. If these precautions had been taken, the price of dinner of 75.00 euros would be justifiable, but as it went for us, No. I hope you take my advice only to fill the margins for improvement that I hope you will make.
Delight
Looking for a fondue or truffle dinner, this is your place. Delicious fondue, top cheeses and cured meats, not tasted the meat but you could see from the dishes that it was excellent. Very good desserts and impeccable service.
THE TOP TRUFFLE IN ROME
A dinner you can't forget, a very nice place, well looked after, as soon as you enter there's a lot of wine on display. We ate the black truffle pasta and a Barola fillet and finally the fantastic truffle fondue which was delicious. The wine proposed was a good Sangiovese from Orvieto. Meal concluded with vin santo and offered tozzetti. EXCELLENT rating!

This review is a little late, we visited the restaurant after meeting the chef about 40 mins north of the city in November. The chef kindly invited us to see his restaurant After such a chance meeting and with our evening in Roma we knew we had to go. The food was amazing, the service was great. I had the filet with truffle sauce, my kids enjoyed their dinners as well. Will be visiting next time we are in town, hopefully in September/October this year.

The beef tartare was tasteless. I don't know if it was normal, delicious or bad. I asked the waiter for a recommendation and ordered cheese pasta, but it only tasted of cheese and was a bit weak. I guess truffles were not recommended.

This restaurant is a gem. not many seats, the cuisine is really high quality. excellent wine cellar. the owner goes around each table, has a chat with everyone!! He comes there and advises you on everything from appetizers to desserts, pairing them with the right wine. very attentive to customer requests. example (which made me understand that chit-chat is not just chit-chat but attention to the customer.) I had taken a fondue with baked potatoes, without mushrooms or truffles because there was an allergic person at the table. he came to the table and took some fondue, put it on the single plate, and added a bit of truffle on his own initiative, just for me as I wasn't allergic. at the end of the evening bitters offered and two biscuits. this is knowing how to work and knowing how to get customers. he certainly succeeded with me.
Duck Breast App a must try
Very interesting menu,heavy on truffled dishes. We had the duck breast appetizer that was delicious, as was the "swiss" style fondue. Our waiter chose a great bottle of wine that went with our meal very nicely! And wasn't a budget buster! Not a big place so reservations not a must.but would help.

Love anything truffle so when we found this place had to check it out. We started with veggies and buffalo mozzarella and tomato, both were fresh and delicious. We ordered the filet mignon with truffle and potatoes and greens. The filet was the best I have had, so tender and flavorful. Excellent dinner, great service and reasonably priced for everything we ordered. Definitely a must try when in the area.

My cousin and I got the barata app, truffle pasta, and a yummy desert that I can't think of of. The restaurant provides complimentary biscotti and moscato that was also delicious. Service was amazing.

I hesitate writing a good review because I selfishly don't want Taverna Lucifero to be too booked when we return to Rome! This place was fantastic and exactly what a meal in Italy should be - not too complicated and absolutely delicious. Much has been said about the truffle dishes which were fantastic, but I'd also recommend their vegetable dishes which were also very good. The restaurant also struck that unusual balance of being nice enough for a romantic dinner but comfortable enough that you felt like you were visiting family with service that was attentive and super friendly. So good we ate here twice in our brief visit. Grazie!
