The Barbary London Reviews from The Last Year
The Barbary is a little gem!
The food was delicious! Such a simple space with great music and a great vibe…loved the no frills of it all. Paloma cocktail was best I have ever had! Alex and Ceasar were beyond nice and attentive!
North African blended fusion
Oversett tekst med kameraet Amazing food... some just melted on your tongue. North African spice blend that gave a new experience to several small dishes. We were 3 people and asked them to serve a piece off everything. It just flowed with small dishes, one better than the other... The best was perhaps a piece of fish crispy fried on side, spiced up on the other - and the neck of a black pig, flambéed!! Absolutely recommend. They only have approx 25 seats, which are all located around a bar stol setting, souronding the kitchen, where you can watch the chefs prepare the food. A must do next time in London.
We are regular patrons of The Palomar so we wanted to try
We are regular patrons of The Palomar so we wanted to try one of their other restaurants and Barbary didn't disappoint. Excellent food, cocktails/wine and ambiance. Love all the small plates and dips.
Gets better with each visit!! Superb
Another superb visit. It seems to get better each time that I visit. We were blown away by the food, atmosphere and energy. A huge thank you to Lubna for being so welcoming and professional- what an asset she is. Thank you for another wonderful evening
Great date night
If you’re staying in the area I would not miss this fantastic restaurant. Every bite was delicious. I particularly recommend the octopus, naan and dips. The cauliflower was also fantastic. I like that they offer carafes of wine. It’s easier to finish on a date than an entire bottle. My wife and I went here for a date night on a short visit to London. The restaurant is very small so it’ll be though with a larger group.

Absolutely spectacular cuisine ! Quaint and small which makes it an experience of its own .
amazing place
The food was absolutely incredible. From the spectacular presentation and creativity to the variation of flavours and textures, every dish was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes, which were just perfect. To my surprise there were also several starters, side dishes, and bread provided as extras that I didn't expect as part of the menu.
Way overpriced and left hungry
Do not go here if you’re hungry. Meat was decent but way overpriced. You’ll need to have a second dinner when you leave or spend 300 pounds to get full. Meh.
Fun atmosphere, incredible food and flavors, impeccable
Fun atmosphere, incredible food and flavors, impeccable service! North African / Mediterranean influenced food delivered to perfection! Must-try! I found Barbary on the Michelin app as a recommended Bib Gourmand, and it fits! I loved EVERYTHING! This is the perfect stop pre-theatre / before a musical or theater performance. I came between Harry Potter showings of the cursed child and could not be happier -- fun atmosphere, singing and juggling to the music, delicious food, well balanced drinks, friendly staff. I totally was satiated while I sat and ate despite no reservations. This is a small round restaurant where the chefs and bartender are in the center stage to show you their magic. Highly recommend this unbelievably fantastic restaurant. I loved the cauliflower Jaffa Style and Pata Negra (star of my meal - tender with charred crunchy edges and sweet savory garlic sauce). The Naan was excellent and fried violet artichoke were served on a bed of delicious dip.
Thrilling
A very small unusual restaurant with excellent food and staff. The tables are based around the cooking grills which adds to the ambience. Every dish was perfect
CHEFS TABLE EXPERIENCE FOR ALL!
If you like eating at the chefs table to send your taste buds in to overdrive then you’ll love The Barbary as all if its horseshoe shaped seating area surrounds the kitchen. We supped our lovely house cocktails (Shifkah Palomas) whilst watching the sharing plates be delicately prepared in this intimate yet energised setting. Highlights of our meal would definitely be ‘The Moroccan Cigars’ to go first with each of the dips on the menu highly recommended. Then came the most melt in your mouth pork you are ever likely to eat in the ‘Pata Negra’, but do make sure you save space for desert. The hashcake on any normal day would have our favourite but it was well and truly trumped with the ‘Pistachio Knafeh’. A sweet / savoury desert made with hard and soft mozzarella guaranteed to blow your mind. We did go to town as it was a special occasion so it was a little pricey but we’d happily go back. Next time we would easily be able to make the bill stretch a little further but it was a memorable experience indeed so who’s counting.
Brilliant casual but upmarket lunch spot
The staff were wonderful, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was buzzing - overall, TIP TOP! Keep up the great work.
Overall wonderful service and food.
From the very moment we walked in, the service was exceptional. I actually had to check with my friend to see if she knew the hosts, they were that welcoming! The exceptional service continued with our server Orlando, who was simply the best. Made us feel thoroughly special and provided great insight to the menu. Food is exceptional and I look forward to going back to try the dishes I didn’t get too. Overall wonderful service and food.
Good but not excellent
Visited the place already no. (12:15) and was almost the first. Place is small and crowded , staff is very attentive and helpful. You seat is on a bar, not the best chair. Food was ok- not great Base on small plates Overall cost was relatively high
This was definitely our favorite restaurant during our
This was definitely our favorite restaurant during our latest London trip! Couldn't recommend enough I had a few friends rave about this place, so I was on top of making a reservation as soon as it came out. The restaurant is fairly small, pretty much with only bar seating around the kitchen, so make your reservations early. I love the open kitchen concept, where everyone can get a view of the kitchen since you're in a very large semicircle. We came with a veteran Barbary friend who knew exactly what to order. They fire grill everything to PERFECTION! Highly recommend getting the jerusalem bagel with a few mezzes to dip I don't think you can go wrong with any of the dishes, but our favorites were probably the cauliflower, chicken, and octopus. But just get everything!
Our favorite meal in London was situated in the iconic
Our favorite meal in London was situated in the iconic Neal's Yard in Covent Garden. The dishes are inspired from the Barbary Coast, identified by 16th century Europeans as the area settled by the Berbers in the Atlas Mountains. The menu focuses on the culture + heritage of countries from the Atlantic Coast through to the Mediterranean Sea leading to the Middle East. Fire is at the center of everything they do. *| what we ordered Spinach Borani Ikra Whipped Feta Naan e Barbari Beetroot Tzatziki Octopus Pata Negra Hashcake - pistachio tart
North African/Middle Eastern cuisine
Enjoyed our evening here. Food is imaginative, service is friendly and well informed. North African/Middle Eastern cuisine. All seats are at bars, you are seated on stools which are not comfortable and very little space; you are literally rubbing shoulders with your neighbours. The food is generally tasty and well prepared. Some of the sauces too strong, almost overwhelming. I would rate the food B+A- The staff who served us from behind the bar were lovely. Knowledgeable, attentive, generous (we did shots before we left). Fardin and Charlotte really looked after us. The bill came: £145.00 for two people. Not wildly expensive but not good value.
Great food, great music just right for a Sunday
It is a little hard to find but once found it should not be forgotten. The food is a mix of everything that you could wish for. The dips and the bread were very tasty and the naan bread was warm and straight out of the oven in front of you. Also don't be afraid to ask if you don't know what something is as the staff are great at helping and guiding you what goes with which other dish. Our favourite was the Pata Negra which was so soft and tasty. But don't forget the specials if they are there The other bit hat made it great on a cold Sunday was the music which was just perfect for a Sunday lunch in a relaxing environment, especially as we were a walk in.
Love it
This was one of the best food that we eat in London. We try almost everything from the menu and enjoy it. Great concept and great service 😉
After attending Michelin recommended restaurants in London for six days I came to the conclusion that this is the worst…
I came to this restaurant because I went to the Palomar that is its sister restaurant. While the food is god the environment is of a fast food bar …. The staff are unpolite and rush you all the time , the sits are uncomfortable ( still not a chair and there is no table), the chef is shouting all the time …. The place is crowded…. I will never be back…. It really does not match its sister restaurant Palomar. I do not recommend this place to anyone.
Best meal in 4 years
Well what can I say, I already had good vibes about this place and reviews from friends who had been. So I had high hopes. But Barbary I know this sounds dramatic! But your food makes my soul sing! Flavour flavour off the charts. My partner and I loved it, our waitress, shout out to Mae-zing she was our server, she was fabulous talked us through the menu, I also like to ask staff what they love on the menu as they are living and breathing it , they know what’s good, Mae -zing guided us told us what she liked and it just added to the whole experience. None of the dishes disappointed. Legend you smashed it! The set up of all people around one horse show around the kitchen, great idea you feel connected to the kitchen and staff and just adds to the whole dinning experience, I love to cook myself to seeing in to what they are doing really added it for me. Anyway I’m rambling all I will say is go, you won’t be disappointed fab food, fab atmosphere and amazing staff shout too our main girl Mae-zing and the Yorkshire bloke who picked me the best desert of my life. See you in feb for my birthday x
5 stars
Tasty food, fun vibe, excellent service (our waiter Alex was great). Perfect for a romantic birthday celebration. Definitely recommend!
Brilliant food and service.
Absolutely fantastic food, cannot fault anything on the menu. Will definitely be going back next time we are in London.
Amazing Mediterranean find in London! Tiny little spot with
Amazing Mediterranean find in London! Tiny little spot with only bar tables, but wow!!!! Great, fun staff and we were lucky to get a spot without a booking due to a no-show. Definitely make a booking. Best house made lebne (which we watched them making), and hummus and the naan and their "bagel" were ridiculous. Also enjoyed the halloumi and the fattoush salad. We barely had room for the lamb which was moist and full of flavor. The open kitchen is fun and interactive. Must try for sure!!!!

The Barbary is in located Covent Garden and the food is absolutely delicious. It serves flavorful and fresh tapas right in front of your eyes with the open kitchen concept. The vibe is casual. There is limited seating so make a reservation! The menu is divided into land, sea, earth, and heaven (dessert). I tried the prawns, mushroom, naan (two servings), pork, and 3 dips. Almost every dish (I kid you not) gave me a wow factor. My only gripe is the pork was a tad too salty at times. (I didn't choose this dish). I would totally recommend this restaurant to anyone. It served us well the first night. Loved watching my food being made. Excellent experience.
Ok, I have this habit of closing my eyes when I want to
Ok, I have this habit of closing my eyes when I want to focus all my attention to a taste that that is spectacular to my taste buds. The pork dish is such a dish that all my senses focused on the taste. Wow! Such a cool place to have a seat around the kitchen bar and see how all the food is made. The cooking is really basic like cooking around a group of friends. The servers are terrific too. We just traveled through Egypt, Portugal, Jordan, Kenya and Tanzania and they seem to capture the food tastes of all these regions.Amazing. Run don't walk to this amazing restaurant.
Had a Unique and intimate dining experience at the Barbary.
It's a limited seating, Tapas kind small plates restaurant. Recommend making a reservation before hand. Great services from the staff. Food was delicious.
Great food, great service.
Interesting food and presented beautifully!Cramped and very loud-not intended for a romantic dinner. We would recommend.
