I loved everything about my experience dining at Catbird
I loved everything about my experience dining at Catbird Seat. It was a very intimate setting. The food was amazing! Every single course. Each dish, is prepared in front of you and served with care. It's a really sexy experience. The service was spot on to the level of service one might receive when dining abroad. This gastronomic explosion gives me Michelin star vibes and I love it! Can't wait to dine again in the future.

Each course is distinct with a mesh of a variety of ingredients you would never imagine coming together. I commend Chef Baxter for his expertise in curating the finest ingredients. One of the most impressive experiences. There is interaction with all of the chefs (nice touch btw), as each chef will bring out a course and speak with you about the food you are about to consume and "how" you should consume it. Important information as incorporating all of the flavors and consuming in one bite makes a big difference. Catbird Seat makes me wonder what Chef Baxter will come up with next. The kitchen is simple, but functional. The service, impeccable. Every single employee there is 100% focused on you, and your dining experience. That really stood out. In addition, your glass will never be empty. That's how attentive they are. Be prepared to be enchanted and pleasantly surprised.

Such unique combinations - highly recommend doing the wine pairing. We will be back for the next seasonal menu!!!

Very artistic, creative tasting menu prepared by top-notch chefs.

We visited 7th September 2023 on one of the couple of Slow Burn (the band) special dinners. We added the curated wine (+ saki) add-ons, and though not an inexpensive option, it is well worth the adjunct to add on to a fabulous dining experience. To have the guidance and description of the courses as you were about to eat them, was simply first class - and then the detailed histories and "terroir" of the wines, was brilliant ! If I were asked, given the overall costs, would I go again? Absolutely, in a Nashville minute!! I found the food perfectly filling without huge amounts of carbs or pounds of protein. Pace yourself, and this will be an experience that i have not had in an overall dinner setting, anywhere in the world.

The entire staff was passionate and you can feel it in the food. 100/100
Be the first to ReplyThis is a Nashville experience.
Not NY, Chicago, San Fran or one of the other legitimate major cities. The prices are exuberant. You can't charge $600 a couple for this type of experience and expect experienced diners to ever return. I'm certain that Green Hills and Lockeland folk find this place extraordinary, but it's simply put. Not. Side note: why does everyone attempt to serve bear Creek beef cooked rare? TN Beef chews like gum everywhere I've had it.
Be the first to ReplyThe price is worth the seat.
Food is out of this world and curated by amazing chefs. Service is attentive and on point making sure you are receiving the highest experiencing. The Catbird is the best fine dining in Nashville. You won't find this experience many other places in Nashville. You need to go to Chicago or NYC to find service, attention detail, and ambience as well as Catbird does it.
Be the first to ReplyJust a pathetic attempt at what many places do so well.
Birdsong in San Francisco is a great example of how to do this. The worst by far is the blaring crappy hard rock music that is nearly heavy metal by the end of the night. I couldn't wait to escape. Wine pairing is crap. They try and do their best but by far falls too short. Skip this and get some local authentic food. Save the fancy meal for another city.
Be the first to ReplyWhere to begin with this hot mess.
Standing outside waiting patiently to be allowed into the building with no explanation as to why a poorly dressed and somewhat indifferent young lady brought each group in and took 1-2 minutes per group. No where to sit and no cover from the weather. Turns out it is a funky small hallway to a tiny elevator to a bizarre upstairs dining bar around a small kitchen. I have eaten ate many places like this and many of them are amazing (Birdsong in San Francisco). Sadly this place is not one of them. The best thing I can say is the food is pretty and served on fun plates and bowls. Some dishes are good most are boring. The real problem with this place is the servers (random cooks) speak (mumble) and with heavy accents... making it damn near impossible to know what they are serving. I leaned forward and tried hard to understand... nope. This became harder as the night progressed as the music shifted from jazzy blues to rock to metallic rock and got LOUDER. Seriously these young heavily tattooed chefs cannot help but blast what they enjoy. I couldn't wait to escape and I even considered simply leaving. If they fix some dishes and change the music and noise levels... then perhaps worth a visit. For now not even close to being a place to eat.

Be prepared to feel like you're entering a speak-easy: the entry door is pretty non-descript and there are no seats for waiting. The bar next door was gracious enough to allow us to wait in their foyer as it was rainy when we arrived. But at precisely 6:00 we were ushered in and given our seats at the dining bar. The food reflects a great deal of thought and technique in preparation and clearly a lot of connections to source their ingredients. Are some dishes indulgent just for the sake of being indulgent? Yeah. If you're not up for a bit of that, this isn't your place. No dish is more than a couple of bites, but we did not leave hungry and we enjoyed every course. We did the wine-pairing and thought some were fantastic and others just OK. I thought the wines showed some knowledge of wines from regions that aren't the premier regions. Is $800 for a dinner two too much? Not to us - it was a special occasion and we enjoyed our foodie night in Nashville. If you can get a reservation at the Catbird seat, take it.

The method of entry is peculiar, to say the least, but once inside it's amazing. Chef Ryan and his crew run a tight ship.I never waited too long between course nor was i rushed. Food was inventive and delicious l, with an emphasis in delicious. Sometimes you can go to a high end restaurant and flavor is lost due to concept of a dish, but this doesn't happen here. Would eat there again. Wine pairing is generous and well thought out as well.

If you are reading this, congrats! This is the only review you will need to read if you are thinking about coming here. I will include the common Q&A based on my experience. 1. How much does it REALLY cost? A:You need to purchase a ticket online ahead of time. They have 2 different types of dinner ( The early seating and the late seating, we will talk about the differences down below). The early seating menu (less courses) cost us $486 for 2 people after taxes and fees and mandatory 20% tip. Wine pairing for 2 was $316 for 2 people after taxes and fees with mandatory 20% tip (you will pay for wine paring with card or cash once you arrive at the venue). So in total for 2 you are looking at $800 for the basic tasting menu (early seating) with wine pairing. Plan to pay more if you choose the longer late seating2. What is the difference between the early and late seating? A: To us, we are glad we did not do the late seating, since the website only stated that you will get 3-5 more courses than the early seating for like a lot more money. One of the chefs told us that out of the 3-5 more courses for the late seating, most of them are extra desserts (their dessert was a major letdown, think Costco quality candies), so to us it is not worth the money for more desert courses.3. Is it worth it? A: IT DEPENDS. The Catbird Seat was once praised by Anthony Bourdain on his "Parts unknown" Nashville episode show, however that chef is no longer working there. In fact, if you didn't know, the Catbird seat rotates their chef every 5-6 years, so you would get completely different experiences and tastes every 5-6 years. Our chef as of Jan 2023 was from Florida and he was very big on seafood, so a lot of our dishes were seafood, which I loved. So if you are not a big seafood (think raw seafood/ sushi/ fresh fish eggs being shipped overnight from Tokyo) fan, then you would be disappointed. This will change for the next chef, so make sure you check their menu prior to purchasing your ticket to make sure the food being offered is something you are interested in eating. I think for $800 for 2 people (including wine pairing), it is worth the experience if you have never experienced tasting menu at a fancy restaurant. Maybe for special occasions, it is worth the splurge if you like their seasonal items being offered, however, be sure to come not super hungry because their portion size was small, you will leave hungry. Remember, it is called "tasting" for a reason, you are not meant to be full. I mean, there was one piece of 18 oz steak that the chef cooked and was shared between maybe 18-20 people, so each person got a small thin half of a bite each. 4. How is their wine pairing? A: They were good, but they were all wines that the wine girl told me that you could buy them from whole foods, or local stores. So nothing exclusive. However, you get about 6 half glasses for the entire experience, so they would tell me that this wine is for the next 3 courses, etc. Which I found odd, since I have been to other tasting experiences that would pair each wine to each course. So for 6 small pour of different wine for $158, I do not think it was a good deal... My elite advice is to skip the pairing- you are not really missing out much on the wine here.5. How is the dessert? A: 0 star! Tragic! Sad! Pathetic! A lot of the desserts were like different pieces of candy served on a fancy plate, but they tasted like they were bought from Costco. Their supposedly "Star" dessert item was this fried dough filled with foie gras, however only a tiny drop or 2 foie gras were injected by the chef in front of us and I tried so hard but never tasted any of it. It honestly tasted like the mini donuts from Dunkin. 6. How is the ambiance? The Catbird Seat was located in a unique location, it is located on the 2nd floor of this speakeasy bar, the Patterson house. You will take an elevator up and it is an intimate square table with the chefs cooking in the middle- you get to see their actions from the beginning to the end. It only seats about 20 people or less each dinner so that made you feel exclusive. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The bathroom was a treat- Japanese automatic bidet toilet, with real warm hand towels- lots of real candles too- so make sure you experienced it also! LOL. 7. My Final Elite Advice: Check the menu to make sure the seasonal food item is something you are interested in, skip the late seating which cost a lot more (they will just give you more underwhelming dessert items), make early seating reservation (less course but still amazing) ahead of time. Skip the wine paring, eat something ahead of time so you are not super hungry when you arrive, and have an open mind prior to coming and you will be treated with a wonderful experience!

The Catbird Seat is a true culinary oasis nestled in the heart of Nashville. From the moment you step foot into the sleek and modern dining room, you are enveloped in a symphony of sights, smells, and tastes that will transport you to a realm of gastronomic ecstasy. The menu at The Catbird Seat is a masterful blend of classic and contemporary flavors, expertly crafted by the culinary wizards in the kitchen. Each dish is an artful composition of vibrant colors, bold aromas, and rich textures that tantalize the senses and leave you wanting more. The meal began with a dish of delicate raw oysters, each one a pearl of briny perfection that burst with the flavors of the sea. The aroma alone was enough to leave you weak in the knees, but the taste was out of this world.Next came a dish of foie gras torchon, a velvety smooth and buttery pรขtรฉ that was rich and decadent on the tongue. The flavors were so complex and nuanced that it was like a journey through a forest of flavor. The main course was a dry aged ribeye steak, a succulent cut of beef that was cooked to perfection and served with a side of truffle-infused mashed potatoes. The steak was so tender and flavorful that it simply melted in your mouth, while the potatoes were creamy and indulgent, with a subtle hint of earthy truffle. But the real star of the show was the dessert. The Catbird Seat's pastry chef has created a masterpiece of a dessert, a chocolate mousse that was like nothing I've ever tasted before. The mousse was dark, rich, and velvety, with a depth of flavor that was truly breathtaking.Overall, dining at The Catbird Seat is an experience like no other. The food is nothing short of extraordinary, the service is impeccable, and the atmosphere is sophisticated and chic. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience.

This is a tough one because the experience is phenomenal! The chef's are friendly, the sommelier fantastic and the intimate feel of the room makes you feel special. The food was mostly fantastic! You can't expect to love every single dish of a tasting menu. There were some real winners! Most of the wine pairings were spot on to accentuate the food as well (except for Elios, that tasted like chloroseptic and numbed your tongue too!). The one problem, worth dinging the restaurant significantly is portion sizes! They are ridiculously small. I've done many tasting menu's and I've never walked away hungry! You truly get one to two real bites, but in an effort to stretch it out, you'll make it three. It's pathetically disappointing. After that experience we went to a live music venue and I ended up having to get chicken tenders and fries. I don't mind spending the money, but will never spend it at Catbird again.
Be the first to ReplyA great experience! Our reservation was for 5:30.
We stayed until about 8:30. We had the table for 4. Everything was fantastic. Each course is served with unique cutlery and serving dishes. The drinks were fantastic as well. We ordered Manhattans, lemon drop martinis and one person from our group did the paired wine tastings. We enjoyed everything. The chef said they change the menu seasonally. We will be back in the spring!

My wife and I wanted somewhere very special to celebrate her 40th birthday and figured it was time to check out what all of the fuss was about. We had heard about The Catbird Seat from friends who went a few years ago and gave us a stellar review. To be honest, I was prepared to enjoy the experience, however, I expected to walk away with a "it's a fun time" but you can take it or leave it, mostly given the price point and time commitment (our meal started promptly at 6 pm and finished at 815 pm). With that being said, my mind was blown with the first bite of the first course - a stone crab and seaweed shoyu. After that, every morsel and flavor strengthened and enhanced the other. At the suggestion of our host, we both did the wine pairing, which was a good call. Ultimately you get about 3 1/2 glasses of great libations (capped off by a NV Cuvee from Montange de Reims) that did not disappoint. All in all, is it expensive? Yup. Is it worth it? Depends on if you really enjoy the nuance of food in a closed environment. If so, then set yourself some ridiculous expectations and prepare to be blown away and since my words won't really be able to do it justice in a yelp review I've attached photos with what I think their descriptions from the menu were.

We've been here twice with wine pairings and loved the creative bites! We're trying to get through all the tasting menus in Nashville, and this one is a solid 10/10. The cola & peanuts cocktail is a great addition!

10/10 I recommend!! The experience was fabulous. The food and the service was even better. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable. The creativity and expertise that went into preparing the menu was incredible.

A must visit for any self respecting lover in the art of food. We had some hits and misses on our visit both with the food and wine. I thought the wine pairings were lackluster and uninspired. For me this was the most disappointing part of the visit. The food was overall good; some dishes better than others with the desserts surprisingly excellent. The staff was friendly but not overly attentive. The head chef was out the day we were visiting so maybe they were just extra focused on their tasks. Overall we enjoyed our visit and would comeback.
