Fine dining in a great space
We don't do a lot of fine dining, but we opted for the Clocktower as part of a theme on our trip to NYC to see the Back to the Future musical. The ambiance is welcoming: music at appropriate levels, dim lighting, and very beautiful woodwork and steampunk-inspired decor all around. The staff really goes out of their way to give you a fine dining experience. Our water glasses never got empty, and the service team kept our table clean and everything in its right place. When it comes to fine dining I'm often left impressed, but hungry. The Clocktower served up generous portions of every dish, to the point that we had to forego dessert. My NY strip was cooked perfectly, and paired with a red wine au jus that made me wish I hadn't finished my bread. My partner's beef wellington was a fantastic medium rare, and I don't think I've ever had whipped potatoes that tasted so good. Overall it was an amazing experience, and we left satisfied and happy.
Be the first to ReplyTruly disappointing
We arrived here on Saturday 14th January for a birthday celebration. We were right on time and made to wait in the elevator lobby area on a bench for 10/15 mins whilst our tables previous occupants finished their deserts. This should have been a warning in itself at how incredibly slow the service was. We love to chat, but we also like a personable and attentive server. We were both surprised that this restaurant had a Michelin star. I’ve had similar quality food for much better value and with much better service elsewhere. I’m unsure if they were understaffed this evening, but it seemed like they had a lot of people running around not doing a whole lot whilst only two waiters actually served. The service itself left a bitter taste in our mouths after the meal as we waited at least 15 mins from receiving the bill to actually paying when we had an early flight home the next day. I could hear that other tables had already voiced there disappointment, so didn’t feel the need to add to what was already a spiralling downfall of an evening for the waiting staff. To say we are sadly disappointed is an understatement.

There are offensive photos of Larry Rivers and Shirley MacLaine pulling at the corners of their eyes in the bar room that are disrespectful to Asians
Be the first to ReplyWine list incredibly expensive
I m rewriting my review as my initial review was taken down. The restaurant itself has a typical appealing British style. The food was acceptable but didn’t meet expectations. My shepherd pie was quite heavy. But the biggest turn off was the wine list with astronomical prices beyond any other place I have visited (needless to say where I have been). I found the prices so shocking that I joked about it with our waiter. We ended up ordering one of the cheapest (already expensive) and of course it was not available. Joked with our waiter and expressed my understanding why it was so popular!
Be the first to ReplyGood English breakfast
Booked for breakfast as wanted to try another restaurant by chef Jason Friendly service from start to finish. The English breakfast is just what you want before a long day sightseeing. Big portions but maybe the option to hqve the eggs scrambled would be good.

We went to The Clocktower for brunch on our last day in NYC. Service was excellent throughout our visit. The cocktails we ordered were very good. The food was ok, but nothing special. My wife had the Fish and Chips (good portion size, but quite ordinary food) and I had the Skirt Steak (a nice piece of steak).

My husband and I had dinner at The Clocktower the Sunday of Labor Day weekend as part of my birthday trip. This was my first experience at a Michelin Star restaurant and I can see why they received the recognition. The food was incredible and the service was outstanding. My husband ordered the Scotch egg, Shephard's pie, and sticky toffee pudding and is still talking about this meal 2 weeks later. I ordered the fish and chips and the strawberry meringue dessert and they were great. The service was top notch - we were trying to decide on a bottle of wine and the server did a great job of asking a few questions to help confirm our selection. I look forward to coming back to NYC and eating at The Clocktower again!
Be the first to ReplyPossibly the worst meal I have ever experienced
Probably the worst meal I’ve ever had! Bread that was warm on the outside and frozen in the middle. Halibut that was cold in the middle and didn’t taste fresh. We didn’t eat the meal, we’re comped our drinks and left. I spent all evening trying to get the bad fishy taste out of my mouth! I’ve eaten here previously and it was great so I took some friends back. It’s not even good gastro pub standard compared with the uk that it seems to model itself on! Ps this is not a front of house service staff issue, frankly they seemed embarrassed. The overabundance of suited oversight on the floor doing absolutely nothing felt oppressive.
Be the first to ReplyREAL PROBLEMS FOLKS.. Frozen and microwave food being passed off as fine dining... STAY AWAY
Hello - our party dined at the Clocktower Friday July 22, 2022. It was a highly anticipated meal coming on the heals of a long work week, amongst friends and colleagues, and some well needed time for relaxation. So.. up until the point we ordered our meals, things seemed normal. Then, the problems started. First, it seemed to be taking an inordinate amount of time to bring our appetizers (I did not order an app but the other members of our party did), and as such the desire for bread presented itself. Noting other tables had received bread 15 minutes before we did, a request was made. After another 10 minutes and no apps or bread, a 2nd request was made. After another 10 minutes and nothing, we asked and were told "it's coming". Five minutes later and the bread arrived. And arrived it did. The outside was hot, crusty, and looked nice - until we broke into it, and the center was COLD. And by that, I mean ICE cold. Clearly, the bread was frozen and reanimated. Whilst I would not make a huge deal about bread in a meal such as this (they did eventually replace it with bread that was hot, though but clearly still not fresh), it was a harbinger for the next step in the meal. Two of us ordered the Halibut; when the Halibut finally came out (accompanied by a table side nape drizzle of lemon beur blanc), a quick sampling of the dish revealed a MUCH larger problem. 1.) the fish was barely luke warm with the sauce slightly hotter; 2.) the consistency of the fish exposed itself as being previously frozen and potentially microwaved. The texture and flavor were off, and reminded me of the frozen fish you would buy in a super market, more specifically Trader Joe's. Now, I will say that I do have expertise in the area of food preparation, so for me, I do not say these things lightly. Also, taking a step back, everyone knows that COVID hurt many establishments and that not all came back the same as they were before. Perhaps this is the case with the Clocktower? However, the observed abundance of managerial staff on the floor would lead me to believe that may not be the case. Nonetheless, we were offered, and declined to have our entrees remade; as a kind and appreciated apology, they comped our drinks and apps. This helped somewhat, but the bottom line: Caveat Emptor.

what a disaster! Fully expecting a lovely brunch, I was truly disappointed when my Fish and Chips came utterly devoid of any seasoning!! Tasteless and badly presented, I was again hard pressed to say a pleasant word about the salad that was shared by my fiend. altogether a very terrible experience. Just go somewhere else.
Be the first to ReplyMichelin quality food and ambience without the price tag
Fantastic food and ambience, service was great, although they were clearly understaffed I think most places are today. Beef Wellington was fantastic and red cabbage as a side dish is a must 6 of us ate for $500 (2 courses and 1 alcoholic drink each)
Be the first to ReplyGreat food but disappointing service
Went here for my husbands 50th. Lovely place and decor. The food was superb. Beautifully presented and delicious. However the service was very poor for a Michelin star restaurant. I have been to many one star, two star and three star Michelin restaurant and this one is the first I have rated average. We waited ages to be served whilst other who had come after us had been served and at least given menus. When we got to order drinks it took ages to arrive. Our server was very personable but we saw him at the start and when we actually had to ask for stuff vs them ensuring we had all the condiments for our meal. Not very attentive and seemed to be serving other tables in another room hence lack of us seeing him throughout our dinner. We left and not ordered dessert as we didn’t want to wait around longer than we had to. So in summary, fantastic food but the service let this place down which is a real shame and very disappointing.

I booked as a surprise for my husband for first breakfast in New York, this trip Was a Christmas present so thought we would start in style!!!! Terrible service and food mediocre at best, if Jason Atheron had walked in he would have had a fit!!! If he didn’t well my estimations were wrong!!! Michelin starred! I don’t think so!!!!!!! What a complete disappointment and waste of money! We have had better breakfasts Around the city for much less and the service was exempalary.
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant Fine Dining Experience In New York
During our 4 day trip the NYC we wanted to get at least one really nice restaurant in and choose the clocktower. It did not disappoint... the beef wellington was beautiful with a fine dining service from the staff to match. Reasonably priced too considering it's Michelin star rating.

Great Wellington and Truffle Risotto. The wine list doesn’t disappoint.
The atmosphere and decor are great. Might suggest showing off the view… Al Windows were shut. But still wonderful in every way
Worth its star
I guess the decor was meant to resemble an old restaurant with pictures hung all over the walls and a lot of dark wood. I was predisposed not to like the place and then the freshly baked sourdough arrived followed by the roasted cauliflower dish, see below. By then I was convinced the place was worth its star.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent brunch!
We chose this place because of its location and its Starr affiliation. We had a delicious meal and stellar service. The ambiance is perfect — clubby with loads of interesting photos all up and down the walls. A great start to a lovely day in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyHard to Interpret Menus
Great location and layout but the menus are super misleading. For example, what was billed as Sheppard's Pie was in fact an interestingly prepared chicken breast with a small, not very interesting, pie on the side. Strange attempt to make everything sound English in an attempt to be sophisticated. Better to just rename the dishes. Costs nothing and improves service.

Went there for a drink before dinner.
Nice bar, not much of a scene but still has a nice vibe.
Food looked good
A lovely atmosphere & great food
A lovely atmosphere and surroundings for a great Thanksgiving meal!
Went for thanksgiving day meal from their special thanksgiving day set menu.
The bar area was cosy and full of character and reminded me of an old club in London. A decent range of drinks and cocktails and a good place to have a pre dinner drink.
The restaurant area was lovely and sat in front of the fire you would have thought you were in a small cosy London club. The turkey dinner was excellent with good portions and we were provided with a gift to leave.
Would recommend
Happy thanksgiving
Noise and Good Food don't go together
The Clocktower is an elegant restaurant, and my wife and I were looking forward to an excellent dinner and some great conversation about many things we had not been able to talk about because of our divergent schedules.
Overall, although the food was of good quality, the noise level in the restaurant was such that a normal conversation was hardly possible. I really liked the pasta with oxtail, 3 cheeses and truffle. My wife's main course was good but not really all that special; and the service was slow, as if we were an after-thought. On the positive side, the waiter gave us (in brought strokes) the recipe for my dish. We have tried it at home and it worked out great.
Bottom-line: I am sure they are on to something in that place; but we have decided not to go back there, as a normal conversation was not possible with the noise level; and as a result, we were eating as fast as possible to be able to get out and have a normal conversation somewhere else.
What a waste of their cooking talent and our money....
Having eaten at le Gaveroche,
Having eaten at le Gaveroche, hand and flowers, midsummer house, fat duck and others we were expecting great things and were bitterly disappointed. The restaurant was noisy the food was mediocre and underwhelming. The service was no better than a chain restaurant with no attention to detail - poor and 4 disappointed ladies
Be the first to ReplyQuite satifying
Had been here a few times. The last one wasn't so great but figured to give it another shot. My burata was somewhat dry, but main course (burger) was delicious. My dining companions both had the heirloom tomatoes for appetizers and they were good, alogn with their cods. The Apple crumble desert was OK...a more traditional one would had been better. Service was very good. Sommelier was wonderful.

Interesting restaurant with a good menu - not huge but good. Well-designed restaurant with a smaller bar. Very pleasant evening.
