Won't go back
I was impressed by a TV documentary about the Dorchester Hotel. My friend and I decided to give it a try at the Grill. The hotel was under renovation. So front part of the hotel was under construction. We had to go through side entrance. The restaurant looks fine. But the food was horrible and most expensive. I don't mind if the food quality was super for such price. But the food was so greasy and taste like pub food. Maybe they think customers are all so dumb that they can get away from it for being famous. My stomach felt quite uncomfortable as it was so greasy that did not need much dinner. The drink was nice but of course quite expensive. We will never go back. Once is enough and made us feeling like fools. We had a look of the afternoon tea, which looked better. After all, it is not super technical complex to make sandwiches.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent restaurant in one of the best Hotels in the World.
Excellent restaurant in one of the best Hotels in the World. Its been revamped and looks great. The restaurant is classic modern style very nice surroundings indeed. We chose off the 2 course set menu. I had the Soused mackerel, chilled tomato soup, olives, cucumber, basil. The presentation was excellent, it was cooked perfectly and very delicious. For afters I had the Sea bream, mushrooms, leeks, chicken & tarragon sauce. Again presentation was excellent, was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. we had a bottle of the Dry Furmint Kardos Tokaj 2020 it was lovely and complimented the meal well. The service was excellent as you would expect in the Dorchester. All in all a lovely experience and will definitely be back. The Dorchester was where my Grandfather stayed on business when he came to the UK from South Africa so is a special place for me.
Be the first to ReplyBest Sunday lunch in London
Best Sunday lunch in years, everything’s was correct. Great greeting on arrival to a first class menu. I selected the lobster Scotch egg followed by the beef. There where so many sides, I could not manage a dessert! Great quality. Looking forward to my return.

This is our second visit, the first being my birthday last year, which I have to say was jaw droppingly good. Because of that, we decided to book a table for our sons birthday. We know if you want a meal to remember you have to go somewhere special. The reception was great again and the atmosphere felt the same, this time with a musician which went down very well. Onto the food...our starter was the lobster scotch egg which did have the wow factor for me but afterwards the comment from my wife was "that was salty",. We then had the mains and even though I don't mind "well seasoned" food at the end of my plate I felt I couldn't have had another mouthful. My wife and son couldn't get through their meals because of the salt content. We did mention this to the waitress who then informed the chef. And to their credit we were given some sorbet to cleanse our palettes before dessert. It is a shame, as I have been under the impression up till now, that, at this level of dining I could guarantee the food being faultless. My son was however, presented with a birthday best wishes with some chocolates which went down well. The service was second to none, along with the dining area.
Be the first to ReplySpectacular food and service, a must-visit for London visitors
This restaurant is a must-visit in London. The food is adventurous and inspiring, a delight to taste. And the service is spectacular. Our waiter Jack was very knowledgeable about the menu, and a great conversationalist too. We had such a great time our first evening in town we came back on our final evening to celebrate our trip. Highly, highly recommended. We can't wait for our next visit!
Be the first to ReplyExceptional venue, kitchen overrated
Service and cocktails great, food a little tasteless and uninspiring - Sorry
Enjoyed several visits to the Dorchester bars, tea rooms and restaurants over the years, we were really looking forward to a high standard lunch - unfortunately the quality did not meet expectations.
Venue however is amazing, renovations due to complete in September 2022, we will definitely be back to enjoy the Promenade or Orchard rooms (however we will give the Grill a miss).
Hope this helps.
Don’t miss this gem
Have been following this superstar chef for quite a while now and was keen on coming to eat there when I’d be in London and I tell you it was superb - Modern british/classical at it’s finest, my favoruite restaurant in London and I’ve been to a lot of michelin stars in the area the fact that this didn’t have a michelin star amazed me.
Also thought it was going to be “pricey” compared to London but was impressed by the amount I payed.
Service was amazing as you’d expect from a five star hotel.
Also the bread serving was super impressive as the make a laminated brioche but in a cylindrical shape
10/10 would make a special trip to go there.
Way too expensive for what it is, but good food and amazing service
We have visited the restaurant with a couple of friends. The food was good, nice range of flavours and great tastes. But I have to be honest, it was way too expensive for what it is, maybe that is the reason why it was so empty.
On a very positive note though, Jack, our waiter just was fantastic. Recommended very nice dishes, knew how to engage with his guests, very attentive and you could tell that he knows what he is doing!
The Dorchester at its very kindest and best
We had dinner on Saturday 26th February 2022 courtesy of my son and his fiancé who treated us as a Christmas present. I had the crab bisque for starter. I added caviar as an extra and I would recommend that to anyone who has this dish. It really highlights the favour of the dish and adds another layer of seasoning. There was however a small piece of cartilage in it which I pointed out to the waitress. Sally did not have a starter but she did have the ribeye steak which was succulent and full of flavour. I had the suckling pig. It barely looked cooked and yet it, including the trim of fat, melted in the mouth. Excellent. We had the Dorchester chips as an extra. Again I recommend them as they are so crisp and buttery on the outside and soft in the middle. Best chips ever in my view. We had the rhubarb for desert and ordered desert wine to go with it. We were told that the Dorchester would provide these free of charge because of the small piece of cartilage in my starter. The whole meal was washed down with a very drinkable bottle of white Rioja. At the end, the assistant restaurant manager, Pia Flavell, presented us with a plate with a desert and "Happy Christmas" on it. She told us that the Dorchester wanted to finish off our Christmas present and therefore there would be no charge for our extras including the bottle of white Rioja. No the Dorchester are not going to do this for all of there customers but it was extremely kind of them to do it for us and it finished of a truly excellent meal and experience. Thank you Pia and the Dorchester. Kevin and Sally Steele
Be the first to ReplyExceptional Service, Food was good but not great
We enjoyed our experience at this restaurant as the staff really were exceptional, very welcoming and the sommelier definitely knew his stuff when we questioned the champagne we were drinking. The dining room is lovely and comfortable and the location is superb, great for an occasion. As for the food. It was good there is no doubt about that but not next level which is what I expected it to be. I have had better food in the restaurants I frequent in my home town in Cheshire. The fish I had was not hot enough and the scallops were over flavoured. The cocktails were wonderful. It was not value for money in my opinion as the cost was astronomical so I expected an astronomical meal which it was not. I don't like saying negative things about Chefs but I do think that someone needs to do a regular taste check. The staff made the evening and not the food.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Boxing Day Lunch
Such a memorable Boxing Day spent at The Dorchester, we started with Bloody Mary's in Promenade Bar followed by a delicious set lunch in The Grill.
The atmosphere with wonderful with a live singer, the food was outstanding and the service was both attentive and friendly.
We couldn't fault the afternoon and cannot wait to return.
Amazing evening with delicious food and marvelous staff
We've been to the Grill for the first time, but surely not the last.
They've welcomed us so charming that we felt immediately very good.
The lady Manager was very charming and all the waiters and waitresses were very so thoughtful and attentive.
The food was amazing - I never had better combination of food and wine as in this place.
Everybody, who wants a delicious dinner with wonderful wine and company should go to the Grill!
A Perfect Place For a Treat
To end the festive season my OH and I enjoyed a wonderful Sunday lunch here today. As soon as we entered we felt welcomed, looked after and special. The beautiful Christmas decorations were amazing, well done to whoever sorted these!
Once in the Grill, we were seated in a peaceful corner and had 5 star service, any questions on the food and wine were knowledgable answered and my food was prepared to my person tastes. The wine was matched by the sommelier and was perfect!
The attentive yet non-intrusive service was spot on.
Would I recommend- 100%
Will we return- Yes! Yes! Yes!
And Just Like That
It's as if I blinked and my beautiful wife's birthday arrived again. Couldn't get a table for dinner but then Omicron caused mass hysteria and there were places available.
We have a long history with The Dorchester Hotel first going in 2001 for dinner, getting married there in 2006 and subsequent birthdays have made it our home from home.
So, as expected excellent service in the bar and restaurant and we noted a much younger staff on the restaurant floor.
Food was beautifully served and our sommelier recommended a most delicious wine that despite consuming a whole bottle of champagne in the bar we consumed completely. The delicious Hennessy XO in the bar afterwards finished off our evening perfectly.
It would seem that today the Grill with almost no dress code and unruly children in buggy's welcomed has become not so much a fine dining restaurant but more a trendy cafe. I mentioned this to one of our waiters who smiled apologetically. Progress I'm told.
However despite this change, it still delivers on many levels. We'll be back.
